New supply agreement with Ovako Group! #GreenIron has entered into a supply agreement to process residual materials from Ovako’s steel production. The materials will be processed at GreenIron’s site in Sandviken, with operations planned to start this year and ramp-up volumes in 2027. By recovering and reusing iron-bearing materials, the collaboration supports Ovako’s efforts to achieve more circular and fossil-free steel production. We look forward to working together to advance sustainable solutions for the steel industry! #GreenIron #Ovako #SteelResiduals #Circularity

Since receiving the environmental permit in April 2024 for our Sandviken site, we’ve progressed from construction to commissioning, and are now ramping up commercial production. At Sandviken, we are validating our technology at industrial scale, building operational experience, and laying the foundation for GreenIron’s next phase - built on long-term commitment and lasting impact. We are proud to be part of the #ZHyRON project, developing and validating circular industrial solutions in real industrial environments to help transform the steel industry towards more sustainable practices.
On the second episode of #ZHyRON From Waste to Value video interview series, Pavel Ivashechkin at BFI – Research Institute for the Steel Industry (Germany) explains BFI’s role in the project. Focusing on treating and recycling process water generated by the Greeniron H2 AB hydrogen furnace. BFI develops customised treatment technologies to separate heavy metals and salts, recycle zinc, and prepare water for either reuse in the reduction process or safe discharge. This work is a key part of ZHyRON’s goal to achieve a fully closed circular cycle, where water is an integral resource rather than a by-product. Recycled water can even be electrolysed to produce hydrogen, feeding back into the reduction process and further enhancing sustainability. Strengthening GreenIron’s Management Team We are pleased to announce that Axel Hillelson (Chief People & Culture Officer) and Katarina Bergegård (Chief Marketing & Communications Officer) have joined GreenIron’s management team. Earlier this year, Malin Perman (Chief Strategy Officer) also joined both the company and the management team, further strengthening our leadership as we continue to scale our carbon-neutral metal technology. Together they bring strong expertise in people and organisational development, strategy, and communications - important capabilities as GreenIron continues its growth journey and industrial expansion.

Turning by-products into value ⚙️♻️ Every year, more than 5 millon tonnes of steel by-products, such as mill scale and filter dust, are generated across Europe and North America. These by-products are rich in valuable metals, yet are often underutilised or recycled using fossil-based methods. At GreenIron, we turn these residuals into resources. Our carbon-neutral, hydrogen-based reduction technology enables steelmaking by-products to be recycled and reintroduced into steel production processes. The result: higher production yields, improved profitability, and significantly lower CO₂ emissions - while strengthening circularity across the steel industry. The image shows reduced mill scale produced at our Sandviken facility, ready to be reintroduced into the steelmaking process.

Circular metals in a volatile world Steel production accounts for nearly 8% of global energy-related CO₂ emissions (#OECD). To reach the #EU’s 2050 climate-neutrality target, the sector must cut emissions by 35% - yet recycling steel by-products still relies heavily on fossil processes, emitting around 49 million tonnes of CO₂ annually in the EU alone. ZHYRON highlights why circular, recycling technologies are becoming critical in today’s challenging economic and geopolitical landscape. #GreenIron is proud to contribute our hydrogen-based reduction technology to the EU-funded ZHyRON project, enabling fossil-free recovery of valuable metals from steel industry residues. 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dSYe7DkA
