Recently, God of War rumors have been circulating like wildfire after reputable insider NateTheHate reported a major spin-off featuring Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother would be the focus of a new project. And after Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson later echoed a similar sentiment, suggesting a huge reveal would happen at today's State of Play, fans were tuned in with hopes at an all-time high.
It turns out the rumors have proven to be true, as God of War: Laufey has just officially been announced in a brand-new trailer featuring Faye as the lead protagonist. The game will be coming as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with more information sure to be released in the coming days.
After months of speculation and rumors surrounding a major new God of War announcement, fans were not disappointed during this June's State of Play, as an epic 20-minute gameplay reveal trailer for God of War: Laufey featuring Faye in the afterlife officially dropped. The game will be set in the Afterlife of the Gods, with Faye being accompanied by Rue, a set of talking ribbons on the end of her legendary sword, as well as a giant talking green cube.
While we don't have any official release date or pre-order information just yet, more details are likely to surface in the coming months seeing as the game looks to be in the deep stages of development. You can watch the full gameplay reveal here:
God of War Laufey - Official Gameplay Reveal
The 20-minute gameplay clip shows that the game will be set alongside Kratos and Atreus' journey, with Faye journeying through the afterlife after they've already scattered her ashes in the opening scenes of the original game. The game seems to be setting up an answer to a burning question that Santa Monica Studios has left open-ended since God of War's 2018 release, which is the specific cause of Faye's death.
It appears she will be guided by Kratos and Atreus through the afterlife in some way, speaking to them across realms, while she admits in the reveal trailer that her magic powers appear to function much differently in the afterlife than when she was living. Ultimately, God of War: Faye promises to be a completely unique and exciting new chapter in the franchise, and fans will be keeping their eyes peeled for an official release date update.
