  • I think this film is a good microcosm of Snyder as a filmmaker, for better and worse. Visually, it is a faithful representation of the comics, yet Snyder's own visual choices work too, from updating the costumes from Golden-age looks to a be a blend of the 80's and 90's movie style costuming. I don't even particularly mind the ending too much, I believe it still works with the narrative. At the same time, however, I feel Snyder loses sight of each character's writing and themes, making those who should be more flawed seem cool and stripping away some humanity, putting style over substance. The result is a movie that can feel incompatable with its source material

  • Watchmen is a pretty solid film. Think the director's cut is a significant improvement over the theatrical one, a worrying trend for Snyder. Haven't seen the ultimate cut but want to at some point. Think this movie is visually very interesting, but loses some of the movie's subtext in translating it to the big screen. Don't think the squid change was a good choice though.

  • In an alternate 1985 where former superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends active vigilante Rorschach into his own sprawling investigation, uncovering something that could completely change the course of history as we know it. Silk Spectre(Malin Akerman) and Nite Owl ( Patrick Wilson ) are breaking into the prison to free Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley). Prison cabtenr scene has become one of my favourite scenes in that movie, it shows how badasss Rorschacha is.

Watchmen Review
8/10

Watchmen is an ultra-violent, sexually explicit mystery film (with a few costumed heroes thrown in) that is visually stunning, but uneven.
