Announcement & Development of Path of Exile 2

In November 2019, Grinding Gear Games unveiled the highly anticipated sequel, Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), at their Exilecon conference. Initially, this sequel was set to introduce a brand-new seven-act storyline that would run parallel to the original campaign of Path of Exile, allowing players to experience both narratives while ultimately converging at the same endgame. Gamers were also presented with the freedom to choose between the original Path of Exile or the new campaign before arriving at the shared endgame, with the ability to interact with others regardless of their chosen path

However, in a 2023 update, it was revealed that Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) will now stand as a distinct game, and is set to launch as an entirely new experience, while still allowing for shared microtransactions between both titles where applicable. This sequel boasts a six-act campaign, introduces twelve distinct classes, and implements significant modifications to many foundational game systems. The skill gem system has undergone a major transformation, eliminating gem sockets from gear and integrating them into active skill gems.

Combat has also been enhanced with the introduction of a new dodge roll feature. Additional updates include a comprehensive visual overhaul utilizing physics-based rendering, a complete revamp of itemization and crafting, the introduction of 18 new Ascendancy classes, a fresh passive skill tree, and exciting endgame content.

Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2): Everything We Know So Far

PoE 2: Spirit Walker Showcase Overview for Return of the Ancients

Grinding Gear Games recently showcased the upcoming Spirit Walker Ascendancy Class, highlighting several of its core mechanics, skills, and potential builds. Much of the Ascendancy revolves around three main nodes: Vivid Stampede, Primal Bounty, and Wild ProtectorVivid Stampede focuses on aggressive stag-based AoE damage, Primal Bounty centers around projectiles, while Wild Protector centers around companion-based combat with a powerful Bear Spirit ally.

Investing in all three nodes unlocks Sacred Unity, a passive that further enhances each skill node with stronger effects and additional utilities. The showcase also revealed notable passives like Idolatry, which heavily supports minion builds, and The Natural Order, which allows Tame Beast to tame bosses.

Two endgame builds were also showcased from the recent footage. The Stormbringer Build uses Whirling Slash and Barrage to create massive twister-based damage through Sacred Unity synergies, while the Zookeeper Build focuses on maintaining multiple companions and letting an army of beasts and minions overwhelm enemies.

PoE 2: Two New Unique Items Preview for Return of the Ancients Expansion

Grinding Gear Games recently released a new showcase video featuring two upcoming Unique items arriving with the Return of the Ancients expansion. The preview highlights the Nightfall Shield and the Redemption Crossbow, demonstrating their unique skills, combat interactions, and gameplay mechanics.

New Unique Shield: Nightfall

nightfall new uniques path of exile 2 wiki guide 400px

Nightfall is the Shield of the Breachlord Tul, ruler of a frozen and barren wasteland, who constantly looked beyond her own realm in search of more for her brood. As one of the most formidable Breachlords, Tul waged war across worlds to claim what she desired.

nightfall1 homepage path of exile 2 wiki guide 400px

One of the shield's featured skills is the Soaring Midnight, which lets you hurl the shield forward like a projectile. If you do nothing, the shield eventually returns to you automatically.

nightfall2 homepage path of exile 2 wiki guide 400px

But, if you reactivate the skill while the shield is airborne, it teleports you directly to its location and slams it into the ground, unleashing an AoE impact that causes ice crystals to erupt around the point of impact. Catching the returning shield or destroying the spawned ice crystals resets the skill’s cooldown.

New Unique Crossbow: Redemption

redemption new uniques path of exile 2 wiki guide 400px

Redemption is a Unique Trarthan weapon forged during the height of the Trarthan wars and once wielded by Ratha Azadi herself. It was created for Ratha to send a message, meant to ensure that no rival house would ever question the ferocity of House Azadi again.

redemption1 homepage path of exile 2 wiki guide 400px

Unlike standard Crossbows, Redemption cannot use normal ammunition skills and is designed entirely around grenades. The developers explained that the weapon is not technically a traditional Crossbow at all, but rather part of a completely new base item type that players can eventually find and craft into rare endgame variants with grenade-focused mod pools.

One of its standout mechanics is Explosive Fervour, which removes the usual cooldown limitations of grenade skills while dramatically increasing their firing speed when using multiple grenade skills.

PoE 2: Ascendancy Improvements in Return of the Ancients (Patch 0.5.0)

The recently revealed Return of the Ancients update for PoE 2 introduces several major Ascendancy improvements in Patch 0.5.0, with the Gemling Legionnaire and Chronomancer receiving some of the most significant changes. These updates focus on expanding build variety while also improving survivability and overall gameplay flow for both Ascendancies.

Gemling Legionnaire

The Gemling Legionnaire is receiving new mechanics centered around skill gem quality, aligned with its theme. One of the biggest additions is the Advanced Thaumaturgy Ascendancy skill, which grants socketed skills an additional quality-based effect when allocated in the Ascendancy Tree. The teaser showcased Fireball as an example, allowing the skill to gain a chance to fire two additional projectiles based on the gem's quality. This gives players more incentive to invest in high-quality gems while also creating new opportunities for specialized builds.

Another major change for the Gemling Legionnaire is the Virtuous Barrier persistent buff through the Essence of Virtue node. The barrier becomes stronger for every socketed gem equipped, increasing the player's defensive capabilities and rewarding builds that maximize gem usage across equipment.

Chronomancer

The Chronomancer is receiving several defensive and quality-of-life improvements to its Ascendancy Tree. The Chronomancer will have the new Phased Form notable, which delays a portion of incoming hit damage, effectively granting strong damage mitigation against burst attacks while excluding Damage over Time effects. When this notable is combined with Temporal Rift, players can negate the delayed damage before it fully applies.

Patch 0.5.0 also improves Inevitable Agony by displaying stored damage directly on the boss's health bars. If the stored damage exceeds an enemy's remaining life, the effect immediately triggers, effectively culling the target. Additionally, key Ascendancy nodes such as Time Snap and Time Freeze have been repositioned, making them easier to access without requiring excessive Ascendancy Point investment.

PoE 2: New and Reworked Unique Items for Return of the Ancients (Patch 0.5.0)

Return of the Ancients introduces new and reworked Unique items that expand build options and gameplay mechanics in Path of Exile 2. Among the newly revealed Unique Armor are the Facebreaker Stocky Mitts and The Auspex Exquisite Vest, both offering modifiers for distinct playstyles and powerful scaling mechanics.

Facebreaker is a pair of Unique Gloves that allow players to use one-handed mace attacks while remaining unarmed, with the damage scaling from the gloves' own Physical Damage stats. The item also gains increased Physical Damage for every boss defeated, allowing players to scale naturally throughout progression, even during the campaign. Facebreaker is also a strong choice for Strength-stacking builds, as it has modifiers that increase offensive and defensive options as players invest in Strength.

The Auspex focuses on utility and debuff-oriented gameplay. This Unique Body Armor grants the Mist Raven skill, summoning a raven minion that dives at enemies, dealing damage, and Culls targets to generate Frenzy Charges. In addition to this, the armor applies Gruelling Madness to nearby enemies, slowing them while also enhancing other Slow debuffs inflicted by the player. For survivability, The Auspex also has the modifier that makes Deflect chance Lucky while on Low Life, giving Low-Life Chaos Inoculation and similar builds an additional layer for defense.

Two new existing Unique Equipment will also be reworked: the Husk of Dreams Shaman Mantle and The Hollow Mask Hewn Mask. Husk of Dreams will be renamed Reverie and will continuously apply the effect of the equipped Life Flask at a reduced rate, although players can no longer manually use it. Reverie also grants the Rite of Restoration spell that creates a sigil, increasing Life Regeneration, Armour, Evasion, and the Energy Shield of players standing inside it.

Meanwhile, The Hollow Mask introduces the Wildwood's Gifts persistent buff, allowing players to find Ancient Blooms scattered on the ground that restore charges for Life Flasks, Mana Flasks, or Charms based on their color. The effect of picking up the Ancient Blooms is shared with allies, making this mask valuable in longer encounters where resource management becomes important.

PoE 2: Upcoming DLC Expansion - Return of the Ancients (Patch 0.5.0)

return of the ancients 1 path of exile 2 wiki guide return of the ancients 2 path of exile 2 wiki guide

Grinding Gear Games has fully unveiled the next massive content update for Path of Exile 2. Officially titled Return of the Ancients (Patch 0.5.0), this highly anticipated DLC dives deep into the forgotten craft of Kalguuran runesmithing and introduces a completely revamped Endgame experience. Fully detailed during the GGG Live stream on May 7, 2026, this monumental patch serves as the final full-size league before the game's official 1.0 release. The expansion will officially launch and become playable across all platforms on May 29, 2026.

Ditching the mysteries of the past, players will jump into the new Runes of Aldur challenge league. You will assist a seeker named Farrow in unearthing ancient Ezomyte Remnants scattered across Wraeclast. By inscribing these remnants with over 100 new runes, Exiles can craft powerful items and tap into a brand-new defensive resource forged from Verisium called Runic Ward. This ancient magic acts as an extra life pool and replaces Mana to fuel 17+ entirely new Kalguuran Skills, allowing any class to unleash devastating, attribute-free abilities like Triskellion Cascade.

The expansion also drastically shifts the combat landscape by introducing two brand-new Ascendancy classes. The Spirit Walker (Huntress) communes with Azmerian animal spirits and possesses the unique ability to tame formidable beast bosses to fight by her side. Meanwhile, the Martial Artist (Monk) acts as a master of illusions who weaponizes internal spiritual energy and runic tattoos to transform his bare hands into lethal Fists of Stone. Alongside these new classes, players can hunt down over 40 new Unique items that enable entirely new combat playstyles.

For veteran exiles, Patch 0.5.0 delivers the most comprehensive endgame overhaul to date. The Atlas has been completely reshaped with a massive 400+ node multi-choice passive tree, over 30 new maps, and a specialized Atlas Master mission system. Furthermore, players will experience 5 fully fleshed-out Endgame Storylines, introducing massive reworks and new pinnacle bosses to past mechanics like Delirium, Breach, Ritual, and Expedition. With integrated QoL features like an in-game Build Planner, a live market price checker, and a Fragment Stash Tab, Return of the Ancients sets a phenomenal new standard for the future of Wraeclast.

PoE 2: Early Access 0.4.0 The Last of the Druids Update Overview

The Last of the Druids is Path of Exile 2's 0.4.0 update released on December 12th, 2025. It introduces a new class to the game that players have been looking forward to for a while: the Druid. The Druid is a hybrid Strength and Intelligence class centered on adaptability, elemental magic, and shapeshifting. The class revolves around seamlessly shifting between human spellcasting and three distinct animal forms: the Bear, the Wolf, and the Wyvern, each with its own distinct mechanics, resources, and elemental affinity. The Druid is designed around synergy and preparation, often casting spells in human form before transforming to amplify the effectiveness once they engage in melee combat.

This update also adds thirty new support gems that significantly expand build variety and synergy potential. Notable examples include Fan the Flames, which allows wind skills to spread fire from ignited enemies; Accelerated Growth, which causes plants grown in rain to explode and deal even more damage to enemies, Advancing Storm, which lets storm skills like Tornado or Thunderstorm to move across the battlefield, and Echoing Cry, which repeats warcries after a short delay which lets players get mroe empowered attacks, and Grounding Shocks, which chains lightning and shock effects between enemies for a damage boost.

With this update, we are able to expect a lot of new features of the Druid class, the new league Fate of the Vaal, and more QOL improvements for endgame content.

The Druid

In human form, the Druid focuses on harnessing the forces of nature and the elements through spellcasting. One of the earliest skills players get as a Druid lets them create volcanoes on the ground that erupt with magma, dealing damage to enemies. This skill can be cast before transforming, allowing the Druid to enter their beast form while the volcano continues to damage enemies, reinforcing the class's core kit of combining spellcasting and overwhelming enemies in melee.

The Druid's ability to transform into different beasts is done through a new weapon type that is unique to the class, called Animal Talismans. Equipping a talisman also grants access to that beast's basic attack as a usable skill. For example, after equipping the animal talisman and transforming into a bear, the Druid can use Maul and other abilities specific to the bear form. There are also talismans unique to the Druid that grant them specific buffs. The Fury of the King, for example, turns the Druid's Bear Form into a fire demon, changing your basic attacks and damage to fire damage. It can also add bonus effects to the Bear's skills and grants glory continuously, letting the Druid use their ultimate abilities more often.

Shapeshifting

Bear Form

The Bear form is one of the Druid's available transformations that focuses on overwhelming physical power, durability, and momentum-driven combat. This form makes use of the Rage resource, enabling devastating slam attacks, empowered abilities, and powerful warcry synergies using metagems. This form excels at close-range engagements, crowd control, and sustained pressure through resource conversion.

Wolf Form

The Druid's Wolf form focuses on speed, agility, and cold-based combat. Unlike the Bear form, the Wolf emphasizes rapid movement and attack speed, allowing players ot engange and disengage quickly while maintaining offensive pressure. Its abilities center on marking enemies, summoning allied wolves, and applying crowd control and sustained damage through freezing and delayed damage effects.

Wyvern Form

The Wyvern form is the third druid form. It focuses on high-damage elemental attacks, combining fire and lightning effects with aggressive melee combat. This form revolves around the generation and consumption of Power charges, which enhances the Wyvern's abilities and allows for empowered are of effect damage. The Wyvern form blends physical attacks with elemental spellcasting to control the battlefield.

Druid Ascendancy Classes

With the new Druid class comes two new Ascendancy Classes, the Shaman and the Oracle. The Shaman combines primal animalistic power with elemental spellcasting, allowing the Druid to harness Rage as a resource for both melee and magical abilities. This ascendancy highlights a hybrid playstyle.

The Oracle on the other hand, focuses on using foresight and taking advantage of the knowledge of the unseen to take the upper hand in combat. This ascendancy emphasizes strategic decision-making mid-combat by allowing the Driud to maximize their damage output by aligning their actions with glimpses of the future.

Fate of the Vaal

Patch 0.4.0 also introduces the new league Fate of the Vaal. With this new league, players can find remnants of the ancient civilization of Vaal all throughout Wraeclast. These beacons attract and affect enemies in mysterious ways. When players defeat these affected enemies, the remnants will gain some sort of power. Players then need to sacrifice more enemies to the beacon to fill up all of the slots to activate it and access the Vaal Ruins. Sometimes though, these beacons are infected by rot and corruption and from them emerge corrupted and twisted versions of Vaal and enemies.

Once beacons are activated, players can venture into the Vaal ruins which used to be the domain of Atziri, the Red Queen. In the ruins, players will have to complete runs to pave their own way towards Atziri's chambers, all while clearing rooms and building their own journey by placing tiles of rooms and pathways to get stronger and gain buffs and collect rewards before they face off against Atziri.

Endgame Updates

There are also a ton of new updates, including 30 new support gems, endgame content, and overall balancing adjustments. With patch 0.4.0, players will also get to see a familiar mechanic, the Rise of the Abyssal is coming back and will be implemented into the core game. It will now also receive its own Atlas Passive Skill Tree.

An adjustment to the Well of Souls has also been updated to account for the fact that the Abysses no longer spawn in all campaign areas. Abyss Crafting and Instilling on Waystones have also been removed. Some of these mechanics have now been introduced to tablets instead, making them last longer. The mods that can be granted by tablets have also been buffed to make sure that the removal of the old mechanics will not be a complete loss for players. The tablets can also be upgraded to a higher rarity using normal currency after defeating the Arbiter. With Fate of the Vaal, players can also corrupt their tablets, which grants a chance to add specific effects and mods to the tablet.

Another adjustment made is the monster difficulty. The number of monsters will no longer scale the further players get into endgame content, instead, they will get stronger and yield better rewards. This change, however, will only apply to regular monsters and not bosses.

The Delirium Fog has also been toned down in pathc 0.4.0 to make it less visually distracitng for players, making gameplay more seamless and enjoyable.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.2.1 Update

On June 5th, Path of Exile 2 released patch notes for patch 0.2.1. While primarily a quality of life and balancing patch, players will also find some minor additional content sprinkled through the game. It has also addressed several significant bugs, including one that caused players and monsters to become out of sync in party play.

Many new Endgame Runes, Talismans, and Soulcores have been added, along with nine completely new Mythic Unique Items. To assist players with finding these items, Item Drop Rates have been recalibrated to increase the chances of rarer items appearing, and Item Class is no longer considered when determining loot.

Several powerful Endgame Mythic Items have seen their potency or buff durations increase. Some pre-existing items will be upgradeable with the use of Divine Orbs, while others will not be affected, particularly the Guiding Palm Unique Sceptres. Each variant of the Guiding Palm Sceptres has seen unique boosts to their strength along with new names: the Fire variant is now the Guiding Palm of the Heart, the Cold variant is now the Guiding Palm of the Eye, and the Lightning variant has been renamed the Guiding Palm of the Mind.

Endgame Maps have been adjusted to boost the appearance rate of maps that previously showed up less frequently, improving the variety of maps for players to explore. Meanwhile, monsters have seen their native biomes expand, permitting lesser seen enemies to appear in unexpected territory.

Patch 0.2.1 has also seen several basic quality of life improvements, including a new button to “Refund All Passives”, additional spaces in the Socketable Stash Tab for all the new socketables, and several updates to Gamepad and Mouse & Keyboard functionality.

PoE 2: Early Access 0.2.0 Update Overview

Releasing on April 4th, 2025, the 0.2.0 update to the Early Access of Path of Exile 2 brings one of the most substantial updates to the game, and the new Dawn of the Hunt expansion. Instead of focusing on small fixes and tweaks to problems that players had been reporting like was the case on the last previous significant update, the 0.1.1, this update focuses on content, bringing a new whole character class, the Huntress, with its two Ascendancy Classes, the Amazon, and the Ritualist.

dawn of hunt gem linking path of exile 2 wiki guide

Besides the content around the new character class, there are 3 new Ascendancy Classes for previously existent Character Classes:

  • Warrior's new Ascendancy Class: Smith of Katava
  • Mercenary's new Ascendancy Class: Tactician
  • Witch's new Ascendancy Class: Lich

That makes a total of 5 Ascendancy Classes added on the 0.2.0 update, and one whole Character Class, which would be considered the major, most important part of the update. However, GGG still included a significant amount of other additions to the Early Access experience, including the following:

  • 25+ new Skills, mainly for the Huntress main weapon type: the Spear
  • 100+ new Support Gems
  • 100+ new Unique Items
  • 8 new Endgame Maps, all featuring new rewards and encounters
  • 15 new Socketable Items to be included in the Crafting mechanics

For those players that are looking for an extended challenge, the main change in the 0.2.0 update brings 2 new types of challenging encounters in the form of the 12 Rogue Exiles and the Azmerian Whisps. The Rogue Exiles are NPC Exiles that will antagonize and attack you. They have their own skills and ways of fighting, implementing more advanced mechanics than your regular monster. They are the closest thing to another human player you may possibly encounter in the PvE side of the game. The Azmerian Whisps are spirits that can be found in the campaign and Endgame. If approached, they will try to flee, leading you to a pack of monsters that will be empowered by the whisp, presenting an enhanced challenge. The more monsters you let it influence, the better reward the whisp will yield.

PoE 2: Early Access 0.1.1 Update Overview

On the 13th of January, GGG released a video about Patch 0.1.1 which then released within the week. Patch 0.1.1 focuses on fixing issues that players are facing in the endgame, specifically the mapping mechanic. Players have been giving feedback to GGG about the scarcity of Tower maps and the mapping mechanic wherein bosses are not fought as often. GGG addressed this issue by adding more Tower maps, adding a variant of a tablet that adds bosses to maps, just to name a few changes.

Also, players had been complaining about only having one attempt at a Pinnacle Boss — a seemingly punishing mechanic as Pinnacle Bosses can take hours (or be expensive) to reach. In Patch 0.1.1, GGG adds up to six respawn attempts in The Arbiter of Ash pinnacle boss encounter, with the total number of attempts decreasing at higher difficulties. GGG stated that other Pinnacle content will have respawn attempts added over time.

Items in PoE 2 have also been buffed, with Unique Equipments having significant buffs even at lower levels to become useful to players throughout the game. Mod weightings for rare items have also been significantly changed, as bad modifiers will appear less often in Patch 0.1.1. Runes have also been reworked, as they can now be replaced by another socketable.

Patch 0.1.1 also adds other miscellaneous changes, such as having a loot filter for console players. Other QoL changes have been shown, such as charms showing an effect when triggered, and their charges being shown beside flasks.

We'll reveal more details of the surprises that await you in Path of Exile 2's endgame in the lead-up to release.

The Story so far... "20 years have gone since the death of Kitava. Since his death, society has been slowly rebuilding, but Corruption has once again started to spread throughout Wraeclast. The people whisper of a ghastly living Seed that drives those around it to madness..."

Path of Exile 2 New System Changes

Dodge Roll in Path of Exile 2

Starting with a brand new addition to Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)'s combat is the Dodge Roll mechanic. When needed, this feature is accessible for players to use to avoid enemy and boss attacks such as projectiles, magic, and close-quarter attacks, it is a combat feature that does not have a cooldown and it is said that it can be modified from the passive skill tree.

New Resource, Spirit

Spirit is a new resource added alongside the typical Health and Mana. Unlike in Path of Exile 1 where Life and Mana are required to activate effects, Spirit is the new resource that players will now "Reserve" to trigger the effects of certain persistent skills such as Buffs, Auras, permanent minions, and Meta Gems. The Spirit resource is said to be increased by progressing the story, defeating bosses, and equipping a type of weapon which is Sceptres.

Revamped Skill System in Path of Exile 2

The Skill System is undergoing a major transformation with the introduction of the new Skill Gem System. Although the original Skill System in Path of Exile 1 offered a rich experience, it often felt overwhelming for new players. In Path of Exile 2, this system has been revamped to enhance accessibility, featuring user-friendly elements like recommended combinations and simplified gem sockets. This redesign maintains the game's strategic complexity while ensuring that newcomers can engage with it more comfortably, without compromising the challenge that veteran players expect.

  • Characters start with 9 skill sockets.
  • Skill gems have their own sockets.
  • You'll find currency to increase the number of support sockets a gem has. Each upgrade is rarer than the last.
  • Gradual upgrading means you'll rarely have one skill with far more support sockets than others.
  • Changing socket colors is also deterministic.

Melee combat is also updated, as default weapon attacks will now be enhanced by gems without the need for Mana. This adjustment aims to level the playing field between melee and ranged combat, ensuring that every playstyle remains engaging and enjoyable. As for boss encounters, these battles are even more challenging in such a way that the developers have eliminated the option to teleport away during the fight for a breather. This adjustment compels players to dive deep into the boss's mechanics and hone their strategies for victory. Additionally, the clarity of combat has been enhanced with improved visual cues, making encounters more straightforward and satisfying.

New Classes in Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) unveils exciting new classes, expanding the roster to a total of 12 character classes for players to explore, two for every combination of Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. The newly introduced classes include the Monk, Huntress, Mercenary, Sorceress, Warrior, and Druid. Each of these classes presents a unique playstyle, designed to deliver a fresh and engaging gaming experience. Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) enhances the class system significantly compared to the original game, which featured seven classes.

The introduction of new classes provides players with greater flexibility and diversity, enabling them to combine and experiment with both new and existing classes to create unique character builds. The classes that are confirmed in Path of Exile 2 are:

Path of Exile 2 Visuals and Mechanics

The developers have invested considerable effort into the game's visuals, ensuring that players can easily follow the action even during intense battles. This meticulous focus on detail also enhances the game's interface, simplifying navigation and helping players monitor their progress more effectively. Game director Jonathan Rogers of Path of Exile 2 has revealed how the development team is committed to improving the player experience, broadening gameplay possibilities, and ensuring the game progresses in a significant manner. A notable addition is the incorporation of environmental mechanics, which enrich the combat experience with greater variety and depth.

Every weapon type and skill will have its own distinct feel, prompting players to alternate between them to tackle tough challenges. This sets it apart from Path of Exile 1, where players frequently depended on just one skill. Although there are still opportunities for more straightforward automated builds, they come with compromises in either power or defense, leading to a more balanced gaming experience.

Are there Ascendancy Classes in Path of Exile 2?

Yes, each class will have three Ascendancy Classes, therefore will have a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes. Path of Exile 2 Classes Overview

Druid Class Overview

In Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), players can select from 12 distinct character classes, each emphasizing a unique blend of primary attributes. Among these, the Druid stands out as a class that harnesses both Strength and Intelligence. In his human form, the Druid acts as a spellcaster, summoning the wrath of nature to the battlefield, embodying a force of natural chaos. However, a closer look reveals that the Druid also taps into the power of Force. This class can morph into various wild animals such as a formidable bear. In Path of Exile 2, this transformation occurs automatically when executing an "animal-related" attack. For example, by using the Bear Shred ability, your character shifts into bear form, unleashing a fierce assault.

Conversely, casting a spell reverts your character back to human form. Each time you strike foes with Bear Shred, you accumulate Rage, which boosts your Attack Damage, progressively enhancing your bear's strength. A standout feature is the Druid's Fury, particularly effective against swarms of weaker enemies. This ability allows the Druid to unleash a powerful roar and stomp, damaging all adversaries in proximity while striking the ground with his paws. The initial roar generates Rage, which is consumed as you unleash your fury. Fury can be activated alone for a quick dash or combined with Shred to build up Rage for a more significant leap.

While transforming into a bear may suggest immense strength, it's crucial to recognize that the Druid is not solely a Force class, unlike the Warrior, who can don heavy armor. To defend against overwhelming enemy numbers, players should consider utilizing the Fury Smash skill, which stuns targets and effectively interrupts multiple groups of smaller foes, providing the Druid with a chance to escape danger. Given that the bear form is the slowest of the Druid's transformations, having a reliable roll is vital for evading tricky situations.

Mercenary Class Overview

The developers of Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) aimed to introduce a diverse range of combat styles, ensuring that each class stands out in its own right. Among these, the Mercenary class elevates combat dynamics with its unique use of the crossbow. Unlike traditional bows, the crossbow allows for instant firing without the need for drawing, making it a game-changer. In Path of Exile 2, crossbows share similarities with various firearms, including sniper rifles, shotguns, and assault rifles, enabling players to execute single shots, rapid-fire bursts, and scatter shots.

Players can equip two crossbows simultaneously and enhance their effectiveness by combining them with "Ammo Abilities" to create powerful effects and combos. One notable Ammo Ability is Armor-Piercing Ammo, which excels against groups of enemies by penetrating through them. For tougher foes, switching to Incendiary Ammo is advisable, as it increases the intensity of the fire based on the number of projectiles that strike the target, making it ideal for close-range encounters. If you're being pursued by multiple adversaries and need to slow them down, the Permafrost Burst Fire allows the Mercenary to engage from a distance, applying a Chill effect that can freeze enemies in place.

Once your foes are immobilized, you can unleash a devastating combo by reverting to Armor-Piercing Ammo, causing the frozen enemy to explode and inflict significant damage on nearby targets. Additionally, crossbows come with a variety of accessories, enabling players to customize their weapons with attachments like grenade launchers, flash grenades for stunning enemies, and oil grenades that can slow down foes and ignite them if they catch fire from an explosion or burning effect. The Mercenary class is best at what it does by shooting down its targets from a distance, but it requires a quick reaction and analyzing the situation to utilize the Merc's kit. If done right, the Mercenary can be an untouchable character that can easily take out its target without even knowing it.

Witch Class Overview

witch class path of exile 2 wiki guide 300px

In the eagerly awaited follow-up to the renowned action RPG, Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), the Witch class makes a comeback with an entirely reimagined array of skills and gameplay styles. As a formidable wielder of dark sorcery, the Witch specializes in inflicting damage from afar while skillfully controlling the battlefield to turn the odds in her favor. The Witch's main characteristic is Intelligence, influencing her spellcasting prowess and mana recovery. Her fundamental gameplay mechanics focus on unleashing spells to inflict damage, casting curses to weaken foes, and leveraging her agility to maneuver effectively across the battlefield.

In Path of Exile 2, various classes can summon creatures, but if you're aiming to command a formidable army, the Sorceress is the ideal choice. Unlike many other classes, PoE 2 allows for the automatic summoning of certain creatures, particularly through specific Scepter weapons that can grant you two undead warriors without any cost. Additionally, players have access to a resource called Spirit, which can be utilized to summon the Skeletal minions of their preference. When your Skeletal creatures fall in battle, they will automatically be revived, provided that no other Skeletal minions have perished recently. This means that before you face your next foe, all your minions will be back in action. Furthermore, players can issue commands to these summons using a dedicated button, allowing them to move to designated spots, open chests or doors, and target specific enemies for attack.

The Witch wields a variety of powerful spells, including a small area-of-effect attack that summons a skeletal construct to erupt from the ground. Players can also unlock spells like Contagion, which inflicts a debuff that transfers to nearby foes when an infected enemy falls, amplifying the damage dealt. To maximize this effect, it's wise to keep the infection spreading; for instance, if you reanimate corpses that are already infected, they too will carry the contagion effect. Each time they come into contact with enemies, they can spread the infection further. In addition to summoning the undead, the Witch can also command lethal scorpions, resilient Zombies, and various types of skeletal minions to do her bidding.

The Witch class in Path of Exile 2 presents a distinctive and demanding gameplay experience that emphasizes strategic planning and flexibility. By honing her fundamental mechanics, playstyles, and essential skills, players can tap into the Witch's complete power and conquer the battlefield. Keep in mind the importance of staying agile, efficiently managing your curses and mana, and trying out various playstyles to discover the one that fits you perfectly.

Ranger Class Overview

ranger class path of exile 2 wiki guide 300px

The Ranger excels in speed and agility, unleashing a flurry of elemental arrows—be it Fire, Cold, or Lightning—while also employing a range of Poison-based abilities that create toxic zones on the battlefield, bursting with deadly effects upon contact with foes. This class is designed for dynamic movement, allowing the Ranger to dart in and out of combat or leap high into the air, launching explosive cold projectiles that hinder enemy movement.

In developing the Ranger class in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2), the development team aimed to create a character that embodies agility and fast-paced bow action. From the outset, players can shoot arrows while on the move, albeit with a slight movement penalty, granting them greater tactical freedom during battles. The Ranger boasts a diverse skill set, including the ability to poison multiple enemies with Poisonburst Arrow and unleash arcs of electricity with Lightning Arrow, which can hit larger groups.

The class thrives on combining various elemental attacks to create devastating combos. To enhance mobility further, the Ranger can also utilize skills that allow for agile maneuvers across the battlefield, such as Frost Escape. Frost Escape enables the Ranger to leap backward while firing a freezing arrow at the ground, making it an essential skill for maintaining distance when enemies close in. Once foes are frozen, it’s the perfect moment to unleash Snipe, a charged skill shot that, when timed perfectly, guarantees a critical hit and deals area damage, making it an excellent finishing move. Additionally, the Ranger can execute arrow rain skills while on the move, exemplified by Lightning Rod. This skill launches an arrow into the air that embeds itself in the ground, creating a small area of effect. Once the rods are planted, they draw in nearby enemies, setting the stage for further attacks.

When facing larger foes, players typically seek ways to boost their damage potential. One effective skill for this purpose is Stormcaller Arrow. When activated, it embeds an arrow into the target, and after a brief delay, a lightning bolt descends from above to strike the enemy. This attack has a significant chance to inflict a shock status, causing shocked enemies to receive 30% additional damage from all sources. So, when a formidable opponent approaches, it's wise to launch one of these arrows first to amplify your damage before executing your next combo.

The Ranger class in Path of Exile 2 delivers a thrilling and distinctive gameplay experience, blending stealth, strategy, and action seamlessly. Their ability to adapt and versatility make Rangers a favored option for many players, catering to a wide range of playstyles.

What to Expect in Path of Exile 2 Endgame?

Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) promises a good deal of Endgame content upon finishing the final act of the game. So what should we expect for the game's structure in Early Access? The first three acts of PoE 2 will approximately take 25 hours to complete for newcomers and less than 25 hours for experienced ARPG players. Upon completing your first run of the first three acts, there will be a second difficulty level called "Cruel" where players will repeat the campaign that includes all the enemy and boss encounters at a much higher level and new rewards. This aims to help players reach around level 65 where the end game begins.

Endgame's early access launch features seven different systems, and although the Atlas remains at its core, the way that it looks has evolved. The Atlas is a vast, randomly generated map that is practically infinite in Path of Exile 2. Similar to how you would use Maps in PoE 1's Map Device, you will explore its network of pathways by placing Waystones into each area. If you wish to increase the rewards and threats in each zone, you will need to decide how to craft them first. The "sequels" to four of the most well-liked Path of Exile league mechanics—Breach, Ritual, Delirium, and Expedition—will also appear for the time being. There are ways to increase the frequency of the ones you like the most, but these can also appear at random. Similar to PoE 1, you can choose how you want to approach the endgame by earning points for an Atlas passive tree. Additionally, it has smaller trees for each mechanic, and by completing their corresponding challenges successfully, you will receive points for these.

Special towers can be found as you explore the Atlas map. You can use tablets of the different mechanic types above to spread them across nearby maps after clearing these, which also gives you a broader view of the area around you to help you decide where to explore next. For instance, if you truly enjoy Delerium, you can design your tablets and maps to view it as frequently as you can. You can decide whether you want to focus on boss hunting or stay away from them completely, but you will also encounter corrupted zones and boss maps. In addition to these features, the Trialmaster's Challenge and the Trial of Sekhemas both make a comeback in endgame versions. Although you may decide to concentrate on one of these six systems, there appear to be many reasons to explore them all because each one offers distinct boss drops and rewards.

In your journey through the Atlas map, you may stumble upon a foreboding fortress that serves as the battleground for a Pinnacle boss encounter. Each faction boasts its own formidable Uber boss, but to face these supreme adversaries, you must first conquer their two lieutenants and then emerge triumphant in the final battle. If you succeed, you'll be rewarded with some of the best loot that Path of Exile 2 has to offer; however, if you fall short, the opportunity will vanish until you can track them down once more.
