Solo Leveling is a mega-popular Japanese/Korean anime series based on the Chugong web novel. Debuting in 2024, the show has already climbed to #224 on IMDb's Top 250 TV shows, indicating widespread appeal among casual and hardcore anime fans. The magical adventure story concerns Jinwoo Sung, an infamously inferior hunter given a chance for redemption by a dungeon-crawling video game simulation that selects him to participate as a solo gamer.
As Jinwoo attempts to upgrade and level his way up, he encounters a horde of menacing monsters and evil entities out to stop his progress at every turn. Due to its highly immersive thrills and realistic video game environment, Solo Leveling has become one of the most buzzed-about new anime series in recent memory. Fortunately, there are ways for those outside Japan and South Korea to stream the series into their homes.

What Is 'Solo Leveling' on Netflix?

Available via Netflix in select Asian territories only, Solo Leveling adapts the popular South Korean web novel of the same name into 24-minute episodes. The action-adventure fantasy series follows Jinwoo Sung, known as the worst and weakest hunter on the planet. Akin to live-action Dungeons and Dragons, Jinwoo and his friend Lee pass through a mysterious dungeon gate, sending them down a perilous path populated with monsters and hunters.
After defeating a boss in a double dungeon, Jinwoo is selected by the System, a mysterious entity that separates him from his pack, and challenges him to play solo through the simulation. Reluctant, Jinwoo overcomes his fears and doubts and ventures on a redemptive path to help others and instill his self-worth. Once taking on missions by himself, Jinwoo's solo achievements grant him massive upgrades to his strength and power.
Is 'Solo Leveling' Season 2 out?

Solo Leveling Season 1 premiered on January 7 and ended on March 31, 2024. The first season gave viewers 12 episodes, releasing one new episode weekly. In a classic video game formula, Jinwoo begins solo hunting in the Dungeon Arc after receiving a key to upgrade his E-Rank, the lowest possible. As he hunts various ghouls in dangerous dungeons, Jinwoo's mission is to upgrade to S-rank (the highest), with each graduation providing more difficult challenges.
Following 12 episodes in 2024, Solo Leveling Season 2, Arise from the Shadow, was released in January 2025. The second season is out now and includes 13 episodes instead of 12. New episodes were released weekly until the Season 2 finale on March 30, 2025. Story-wise, the anime continues Jinwoo's epic sojourn through deadly dungeons, en route to securing an S-Rank hunting status. However, the first episode finds Jinwoo and the other hunters transported to a barren snowland, where they must defeat the evil Baruka.
Jinwoo becomes the 10th S-Ranked monster hunter in his country, giving him more power and responsibility as head of the Hunters Association. Yet, the more successful he becomes, the sicker his father gets, forcing Jinwoo to decide what's most important.
Where Is 'Solo Leveling' Streaming in the US?

For a popular anime, fans might expect Solo Leveling to be hosted by Disney+, home of the leading animation studio in North America. Unfortunately, Solo Leveling is not currently on Disney+ and can only be seen in North America on Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll Amazon Channel. Conflicting reports have suggested the show is available in certain Disney Plus Asian territories, but that is no longer an option.
As of April 2025, Solo Leveling Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Crunchyroll, although a subscription is required. After a 7-day free trial is available, monthly subscription tiers include Fan ($7.99), Mega Fan ($11.99), and Ultimate Fan ($15.99).
How Many Episodes Are There in 'Solo Leveling'?

Solo Leveling Season 1 includes 12 episodes, and Season 2 features 13 episodes. Therefore, 25 total Solo Leveling episodes are streamable on Crunchyroll. For newbies, the 7-day free trial should be ample time to binge all 25 episodes. That might be the wisest move considering that a Solo Leveling movie is slated to hit Netflix sometime in 2026.
Solo Leveling: The Movie is expected to be a live-action adaptation of the hit South Korean web novel. While details are scant, the movie joins the two-part miniseries, The Leveling of Solo Leveling, and the webtoon Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, as a spinoff to the main series. The Level of Solo Leveling is available on Crunchyroll. Season 1 was also compiled into a film called Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, which screened in North America in December 2024.
Solo Leveling is produced by A1 Pictures, directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, with writing by Noboru Kimura.
