Damage Types | Monster Hunter Wilds Wiki
Damage Types in Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) are different categories of damage that can be dealt to monsters. These Damage Types can be dealt by either using weapons to attack or by applying Status Ailments through attack build-up, with each monster having different resistances against each Damage Type.
Alongside the standard damage types, there are two categories: True Damage and Parts Damage. True Damage is not modified by the Body Part Multiplier and comes from sources like Sticky Ammo and explosive items such as Barrel Bombs. Parts Damage applies specifically to a monster's breakable parts, with damage increasing once the part is broken.
See Weapon Mechanics for more information regarding damage calculations.
Raw Damage in Monster Hunter Wilds
Raw Damage, which is measured by Attack Power, is the physical damage of a weapon. This Damage Type is divided into three categories, with monsters having different resistances against these categories.
Cut Damage
Cut Damage is dealt by blade weapons that can slash a monster. This type of damage is increased on monster parts that can be severed and will eventually sever the part once enough damage has been dealt. Listed below are the weapon types that deal Cut Damage:
Weapons that deal Cut Damage:
- Great Sword
- Sword & Shield
- Dual Blades
- Long Sword
- Lance
- Gunlance
- Switch Axe
- Bow (Melee Attacks)
- Charge Blade
- Insect Glaive
Blunt Damage
Blunt Damage is primarily dealt by large weapons that bash monsters. This type of damage is increased when targeting a monster's head and will reduce its stamina, leading to exhaustion. Blunt Damage will also occasionally stun a monster if they are regularly hit on the head.
Weapons that deal Blunt Damage:
- Hammer
- Hunting Horn
- Great Sword (Tackle, Side Blow)
- Sword & Shield (Shield Bash)
- Lance(Shield Bash)
- Charge Blade (Guard Point)
- Insect Glaive (Mark Target)
- Bow (Arc Shot)
- Light Bowgun (Bash Attack)
- Heavy Bowgun (Bash Attack)
Ammo Damage
Ammo Damage is dealt by the three ranged weapons in MH Wilds. This type of damage usually will deal more damage to the head and wings (if there are any) of a monster compared to the limbs. There are different ammo variants, each having different damage multipliers.

Elemental Damage in Monster Hunter Wilds
A weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) may have Elemental Damage properties alongside the Raw Damage it provides with every attack. It is a secondary type of damage that can be increased through the Smithy, with monsters having different weaknesses and resistances against the five Elemental Damages. Monsters tend to be powerful in their habitats, such as a Hirabami being resistant to Ice and weak against Fire or Thunder. Listed below are all five types of Elemental Damage in MH Wilds:

Dragon
Associated with the Dragonblight status effect, which reduces damage output. Monsters of this element are weak against Dragon, Ice, and Thunder.

Fire
Associated with the Fireblight status effect, which reduces a player's health over time. Monsters of this element are weak against Water.

Thunder
Associated with the Thunderblight status effect, which causes the hunter to be more susceptible to Paralysis. Monsters of this element are weak against Ice.

Water
Associated with the Waterblight status effect, which reduces the hunter's stamina recovery. Monsters of this element are weak against Thunder.
Status Effect Damage in Monster Hunter Wilds
Several weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds can deal Status Effect damage, such as the Poison King having Poison properties, for example. These weapons can deal Status Effect build-up tied to their weapon, which will eventually be applied to the monsters once the damage reaches a certain threshold. Listed below are the four Status Effects that are tied to weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds).

Poison
Gradually depletes the health of the target over time
