MHWilds Combat Guide
What are Seikrets in MH Wilds?
The Seikret is an animal mount whose exceptional agility will provide the hunter with crucial support out on hunts. This will also serve as your main mode of transport. Its well-developed sense of smell allows it to guide you automatically to your current objective, or any location you select on the map. Hunters and other Research Commission personnel ride these little but agile creatures. They can navigate you automatically to locations you designate on your map using their keen sense of smell.
Your Seikret isn't just for travel, though—you can also stash an extra weapon in its weapon sling, allowing you to switch between your primary weapon and your secondary weapon while out on hunts. You can also use your slinger and certain kinds of items while mounted, allowing you to comfortably restore your health, sharpen your weapons, or even gather materials while on the move. The developers confirmed that there will be lots of actions players can perform while riding or dismounting.
The Seikret is a valuable asset when it comes to combat since you'll be able to use it as a Cavalry during combat or to escape.
Herds and Enemies in MH Wilds
In these hostile circumstances, monsters must act on their own to survive. Hunters may anticipate being fully submerged in a dynamic ecology of naturally occurring monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, including sizable populations of creatures that travel in herds and packs and engage in interpersonal interactions.
Is Cross-Play Combat in MH Wilds?
Yes, Cross-Play is Confirmed in MH Wilds. In a recent post on the social media platforms of Monster Hunter, the developers, Capcom, have announced that Monster Hunter Wilds will feature cross-play between PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. As per Capcom, players will have the option to enable or disable the cross-play mechanic in the options, which gives players who are on different platforms the opportunity to play with each other and battle together.
Weapon States in MH Wilds
Two weapon states in Monster Hunter Wilds is when you have your weapon sheathed, and when you have your weapon drawn. Having your weapon sheathed makes your movement much faster and gives you the ability to use your items. While having your weapon drawn makes your movement slower and more limited, this state allows you to use your weapon to attack monsters and go into Focus Mode.
Slinger Mechanics in MH Wilds
The Slinger is a useful piece of equipment that hunters have, when you gather materials in various environments you journey to, you can use them as ammo to fire onto monsters dealing different types of effects onto monsters to distract them and stall them from attacking you. Other ways to use the slinger are to gather materials from afar and to interact with the environment, an example is breaking off a piece of the cliff to drop onto monsters that chase you. You are not limited to using the slinger on foot, as you can also use it while you are seated on your Seikret to gather materials.
Combat Basics for Monster Hunter Wilds
How to Dodge and Block in MH Wilds
Even with highly resilient armor, monster strikes are powerful. While hunting, your ability to dodge and block will determine how long you can survive. The primary purpose of the basic dodge roll, which requires some endurance, is to avoid danger. Hunters will move a little bit faster and expend more energy when running away from a monster, but if you dodge in the process, you execute a panic dive. The dive is essential for avoiding broad, sweeping blows since it is completely impervious from the beginning to the end.
The alternative is to Block. Based on prior games, the Sword & Shield, Lance, Gunlance, Charge Blade, Greatsword, and Heavy Bowgun when equipped with a shield are the only weapons capable of blocking. You lose health and stamina when you block an attack, depending on how strong the attack was. In general, a strike that is bigger and more ostentatious will deal more damage and stagger around your block. Some armor talents can reduce this chip damage. The best block comes from the Lance and Gunlance, which are followed by the Heavy Bowgun, Sword & Shield, Charge Blade, and Greatsword.
Weapons for Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds features the return of the fourteen classic weapon varieties. These include the Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, Insect Glaive, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, and Bow. The developers redesigned and added new actions to each weapon type to make fighting more stylish while maintaining the Monster Hunter vibe. Each weapon has unique strengths and weaknesses, use them wisely against different types of Monsters, and use decorations to make them even more powerful.
For ranged weapons like Light Bowguns, Heavy Bowguns, and Bows. The developers changed the ammo system a bit. Now you no longer need to expend resources for base damage sources (normal, pierce, and spread ammo). This means you don't need to worry about replenishing your supplies when you load into different areas. However, for elemental ammo, you still need to expend your resources, to encourage players to plan ahead and manage their supplies in hunting.
Focus Mode for MH Wilds
A new feature that's coming to Monster Hunter Wilds is Focus Mode. Focus Mode allows you to aim your attacks and guard abilities. You can also use Focus Mode to pinpoint monster weaknesses, which can be targeted with special new attacks that will deal big damage! By making it easier to space yourself and aim your attacks during hunts, Focus Mode will make it even easier for players of all stripes to get in on the hunting action.
With Focus Mode, you can attack the same body part continuously to create a wound. The wound and the weak points of the monster will be highlighted for you, attacking the wounds and weak points deals more damage than usual. So being consistent with where you attack and focusing on that one point will make it easier for you to take down the monster, there is a special attack in Focus Mode called Focus Strike, where you can deal extra damage to wounds just by focusing on the wounds or weak points of the monster.
Monster Behavior in MH Wilds
In the previous titles of Monster Hunter, monster behaviors would follow a pattern. There is usually one leader in a pack whose orders are closely followed by the members. However, Yuya Tokuda said that they changed this behavior in Wilds and they wanted to have each member of the pack have their individuality as much as possible. Members of the pack now get to decide for themselves how to react in situations where their leader is not present, or if their leader is nearby. For instance, if the leader is far away, they will be able to act on their own, but if their leader is fighting nearby, they may join the fight. They have also added pack variations that will let them act better as individuals while staying in a pack.
For players, this could mean that there will be a potential higher threat if they were to hunt a leader near its pack members. With this change, players are encouraged to scout their surroundings and learn the environment that they are in, and make sure that the conditions are in their favor.
What is the Hook Slinger in MH Wilds
The slinger returns as an indispensable hunter tool. Use it to fire rocks, seeds, and other natural ammo, or even use it to trigger objects in the environment. The hook slinger is the newest evolution of the slinger, allowing you to gather all types of materials from a distance.
It can be used while mounted on a Seikret, and can even be used to interact with certain environmental objects or trigger traps.
Offset Attacks in Monster Hunter Wilds
Another new feature is Offset Attacks, which occur when your strike collides with a monster's attack. This clash disrupts the monster’s balance, creating an opening. Offset Attacks can also be chained into powerful, unique follow-up moves.
SOS Flares and Support Hunters in MH Wilds
Once a quest begins, you can send out an SOS Flare to summon up to three hunters from around the world to assist in your hunt. If you prefer playing solo, NPC Support Hunters can step in to recreate the experience of a full hunting party.
If an SOS Flare is sent but not enough players join within a certain timeframe, Support Hunters will automatically fill the empty slots. In multiplayer, you can customize your recruitment settings at the Quest Counter, choosing to allow only real players, only Support Hunters, or a mix of both.
Power Clash in Monster Hunter Wilds
A new mechanic called Power Clash triggers when blocking specific attacks, creating a dramatic struggle between the hunter and the monster. If you successfully overpower the monster, you'll knock it off balance, creating an opportunity to strike.
Dual Weapon System in MH Wilds
One of the most exciting innovations in Monster Hunter Wilds is the introduction of the dual weapon system, allowing hunters to carry two different weapons into a hunt and seamlessly swap between them. This new mechanic offers significant flexibility, letting hunters adapt to different phases of a battle or adjust their strategy based on the monster they’re facing.
With the dual weapon system, hunters are no longer locked into a single weapon for the entire hunt. Instead, they can dynamically switch between their chosen loadout—such as starting with a heavy-hitting Great Sword to break monster parts before transitioning to a Bow then switching to a Bow for safer, ranged attacks when the monster becomes enraged.
