What is Affinity in MH Wilds?

Affinity is the stat that determines the weapon's chance to activate a Critical Strike when attacking. This value is determined by the Weapons and Skills that are actively equipped and is displayed as a percentage value in the Equipment Info screen. Affinity has a base value of 0 %, and on this level, there is no chance for a bonus damage.

A positive Affinity value denotes the chance for an attack to "crit", which applies a bonus of 25% to Physical (Raw) Damage. Hunters can confirm the Affinity has activated if they see a "Pink Star" above their damage value. On the other hand, you can also have a negative Affinity value, which denotes the chance to "blunder," which applies a penalty of 25% to Physical Damage, which can be confirmed by seeing the "Blue Star" below the damage value.

In MH Wilds, Affinity is the value at which Weapons can either deal 125% Damage or 75% Damage if you have Affinity that is either Positive or Negative, respectively. Please note that Affinity ONLY applies to Raw Damage under normal circumstances. You must have the Critical Element skill active for it to apply to Elemental Damage or the Critical Status Skill to apply it to Status Damage.

How to Increase Weapon Affinity in MH Wilds

Wearing specific Weapons and Equipment will improve your Affinity. Some Skills passively grant you increased Affinity, while there are conditional ones like Affinity Sliding, wherein your Affinity is increased temporarily by X amount after Sliding. If you are looking to increase your Affinity, you can equip Decorations, Charms, or use Skills that are tied up to Affinity. You can also opt for Weapons that have a High Affinity, which you can see immediately before you craft a weapon.
