When is the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?

KCD 2 was released on February 5, 2025. On April 18th, Warhorse Studios made an announcement revealing its next game: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The release was originally scheduled for late 2024 but was delayed.

Warhorse Studios has announced three paid expansions to be released in the coming months. These are included in the Expansion Pass, which can be purchased separately or as part of the Gold Edition for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Additionally, the developers are committed to rolling out free updates, introducing quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes for the best possible experience.

New features like a hardcore mode, a barber shop for customizing hairstyles and facial hair, and horse racing will also be added.

Here's the detailed 2025 roadmap:

• Spring: Free updates adding horse racing, the barber shop, and a hardcore mode featuring challenging missions.
• Summer: Brushes with Death expansion – embark on a thrilling adventure as Henry helps a mysterious artist with a dark past.
• Autumn: Legacy of the Forge expansion – delve into Henry’s roots as you explore the legacy of Martin, his adoptive father.
• Winter: Mysteria Ecclesia expansion – set in the Sedlec monastery, where intrigue runs deep.

Beyond the paid expansions included in the Gold Edition Expansion Pass, Warhorse Studios has promised additional free updates with smaller features.

The Czech studio plans to continue supporting Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 with new content for years to come, hinting at more expansions for 2026 and beyond. For now, this is what’s on the horizon.

Story & Setting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place after the events of the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance, where you will still be playing as Henry. The prequel introduces 2 New Locations that can be explored. The first one is the Trosky area, a large country side featuring a lush green sceneries with a huge castle in the center of it all. Then, you'll have a second map which is Kuttenberg, a very large urban city based around silver mining. This city is filled with characters roaming about and doing their businesses offering a medieval experience to those who wander.

What's different from the Prequel?

The world in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 in terms of size is going to be twice as big as the original game. It will feature bigger areas that can be explored and will retain the same beautiful experience it first had in KCD 1, while improving the sounds, graphics, and the general feel of the game. Players will continue to have access to activities like going hunting, crafting, dueling, getting lost in the countryside in the woods, intervening with locals, and simply going about.

In terms of mechanics, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 promises on improving the core systems of the game while retaining many of the features that are well-loved by the fans. They emphasized that they are truly happy with the way Kingdom Core: Deliverance (1) played. In terms of game difficulty, they will lower the skill floor in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 to make the game more welcoming into combat for new players, while maintaining high skill ceiling where experts can do combos or perfect strikes. The game seeks to reward aggressive playstyle over playing defensively a bit more when it comes to combat.

Aside from these, the graphics and animations have been improved. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has better and smoother textures than the previous release with consistent frames during Hands-On Preview. The sound effects, environmental cues, and voice acting have all been worked on. In many of the trailers and videos released, the sound of steel clashing in combat sound realistic, and delivers that medieval feel and weight to melee attacks.

The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Experience

None of the NPCs in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 are spawned in, meaning for example, if you go to Kuttenberg and meet someone there, and steal their boots, the next time you see them they'll have no boots on. They'll remember you, so you'll have to keep track of most interactions in the game. Including the strategic side of that, if you are planning a crime, you may go to the guard house to steal all the gears that belong to the guards, so then at the moment of the assault, the guards will come at you unequipped, or similarly you can participate in a tournament but previously having poisoned the contestants you may be able to gain a clear advantage to win the tournament.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Survival RPG

Just like in the original game, Survival Elements are returning in KCD 2. Players will have to manage Henry's stats by making sure that he's well-fed and getting ample rests regularly. Henry's states are divided into 4: Stamina, Health, Energy, and Nourishment; each of these states will dictate Henry's well-being. Certain elements will affect Henry's states such as eating expired food, or sleeping in areas that are prohibited can affect greatly.

Stealth Mechanics

Stealth will be a choice (and maybe a must in certain quests) not only at night but also during broad daylight, especially around populated areas, where the player must steal items, take down guards, and open chests, without anyone noticing you or alarming everyone about your presence. There's an attack that can be seen in the Saints and Sinners trailer, where the protagonist grabs a guard from behind with a knife pointing at the enemy's neck and citizens can be seen at a distance minding their business unaware of the protagonist's actions due to stealth. 

Graphics and Performance Modes

In KCD 2, players will have both the option to play in various graphics modes in different platforms. On PlayStation 5, players can run it at 1440P (60FPS), Xbox X 4k (60FPS), Xbox S 1080P (30FPS), with PC requirements have now been released for those planning to play on Steam. The requirements are not too demanding and you may check the System Requirements above for full details.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is also set to deliver graphics system that is compatible with the PS5 Pro Support that will run the game at an upscale 4k mode, similar to the Xbox X graphics settings.

Horses & Horse Combat

In the Saints and Sinners Trailer released on the 8th of June, it is shown that mounts are a big part of the game, not only to reach different locations more quickly but also for combat as the player can be seen in first-person riding a horse while aiming with a bow to an enemy whose also mounted trying to escape and shooting successfully at them. The protagonist can be seen whistling loud to call their horse and the mount quickly appears near the caller. It is possible that mounts will gain skills as you use them, or they may have more equipment or wearable gear for players to customize.

In a recent video posted by Warhorse, Henry can be heard in a conversation with a Vendor where he is trying to buy a horse. So far, the developers have confirmed that there will be 3 horse types in the game: Rouncey, Courser, and Destrier. The 3 Horse Types are the same as the ones from the original game, and we are excited about all the customizations that it will bring about. The video showed Henry riding a horse as they shuffled through the available gear. In the previous game, the Horses have their own gear, experience bar, and abilities. We are expecting that a similar mechanic will be returning in KCD 2, just like in the original game.

Crimes and Punishment in KCD 2

Crimes were a big part of KCD 1, and they are coming back in the new game. Crimes are unlawful and illegal acts that Henry can commit against groups of people or individuals. When caught, you can be punished, pay the fine, try to talk your way out of it, or run away from the guards. A Crime has an equal punishment deemed by the guards and can affect Henry's reputation, status, health, and social standing. In worst cases, Henry may be executed if he gets caught committing severe crimes.

Dogs in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

In the Saints and Sinners trailer released oh the 8th of June 2024, there are multiple very short cutscenes showing multiple features that will be added to the game and in one of them, there a very short but specific cutscene where there's a dog running to attack a man while the man braces for the attack. Dogs may also become a heavy obstacle during stealth missions as their hearing is more refined and they can bark when they detect you alarming the enemies of your stealth attempt to enter some place undetected. It is still unconfirmed how often will dogs be encountered or what other interactions the player may have with them, leading to the question about if dogs can be tamed by the player or if the dogs are specific to certain quests only.

Loading Screens in KCD 2

There are only 2 Loading Screens in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. The first one is when you load the game, and the second one is when you travel between Trosky and Kuttenberg, which are the 2 Main Locations in KCD 2. Warhorse Studios emphasized that they wanted to minimize the loading screen so that players will truly feel an immersive experience while playing the game. However, since the 2 locations are far apart, there will be a fast travel option so that players will not need to ride their mounts all the way to the other side. Inside the game, this is the only time that there will be a loading screen; otherwise, the experience will be continuous whenever you're going inside houses, completing quests, or exploring the lush forests.

Recreating Realistic and Immersive Medieval World in KCD 2

One of the goals of the KCD 2 Developers is to depict a recreation of a realistic and immersive medieval world by bringing Kuttenberg into the game. To achieve this, they have in-house historians and are in constant communication with scholars, historians, universities, and experts so they can incorporate details (both small and large) into the city of Kuttenberg. In the videos we have seen so far, Warhorse Studios said that some of the buildings in the game are reimagined, or recreated based on the data available.

Lockpicking

Lockpicking was updated for KCD 2 as it was too challenging in the original game. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 promises to deliver a similar mechanic, but will be much more refined and easier than the first one. It will also feature an update User Interface giving it a modern, yet medieval look. We have gotten a look of this lockpicking event in the Saints and Sinners Trailers, where a character wearing a dark-colored clothing can be seen lockpicking a chest stealthily. Although the clip was very short, we can get a feel that the house is probably empty while committing this crime, and that the player may possibly get away safely.

New Weapons Mechanics

Crossbows have been added in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. The original game featured many steel weapons and different types like the Axes, Daggers, Longswords, and other blunt and sharp types. KCD will now include Crossbows, which are an addition to the Bow category previously in the game. There's a possibility that each crossbow will have its own "Modifiers" whether one will have longer range but weaker power, or shorter range but higher power damage, or a varying reload times. With these changes, the combat in KCD 2 will be improved and players seeking to use the ranged combat will have more choices than in the first game.

The Crossbow can be seen used in action in the Saints and Sinners trailer released the 8th June 2024, and a short cutscene of a man reloading a windlass crossbow. There's also a new mini-game that allows you to craft your own sword or equipment, in which is required to pay attention to what you are doing in order to get good results. Gear crafted or now can be sold in order to get money.

The Combat Learning Curve

In the original game, Henry starts as an unskilled soldier. He was a normal person with no knowledge, nor talent in combat, and the player experienced difficulty when they first joined. This transformation gave players the feeling of being a complete novice to an expert warrior, and helped shape Henry into who he is in that game. This is one of the many experiences that made the game so great, and so the developers wish to repeat that experience, but this time, Henry will no longer be unskilled, but it will possibly include bigger challenges and more dangerous scenarios than the first one since Henry has gone through training and battles in the first game.

It is possible that players will still experience that similar difficulty at first and the character progression will still happen as they progress and travel to bigger areas like Kuttenberg. Kuttenberg is a large urban area and it is likely a place where Henry will discover that there is another level out there he may have lived as a big fish in a small pond until now, so there will be people who are going to be stronger and better than him in this new area.

What this means for old and new players is that, even though Henry has earned invaluable skills and experience in the past, he still has so much to learn in this upcoming game and players will still get to experience Henry's growth as a warrior throughout the game. 

Reputation System in KCD 2

Reputation System is a KCD 2 mechanic that measures Henry's social standing or his reputation with specific groups. Henry's reputation is built upon his actions, dialogue choices, and NPC interactions. Depending on your gameplay, NPCs may change their behavior towards Henry, which will also impact the decisions and actions that will be available to Henry later on. For instance, if your gameplay involves committing crimes, and a guard catches you, you may receive punishment such as Pillory, and will make it difficult to interact with the common people.

Saving the Game

The mechanics to save the game will be more or less the same, you'll have to craft a potion that will then allow you to save. There will be more resources making it easier to craft this potion and the game will autosave more frequently than the first one. To avoid unnecessarily having to replay multiple hours after dying. But the saving experience won't be completely forgiving in order to avoid taking off the experience of consequence for doing something that requires a certain dare.

Choice, Consequences, and Continuity

In a truly RPG experience, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 promises a world that moves and progresses as you play. Your choices as Henry will affect you, and those around you. Every choice will have a consequence, and this will continue to affect the NPC, or NPCs involved. An example shared by Warhorse Studios is that there are events that can be "completed' in several ways. If you get invited to a competition, and you poison the other participants beforehand, you can be hailed as the winner. You can even try to steal the equipment of the guard stationed before you commit a crime so that you can easily get away, or when they show up, they will be naked and unable to fight. However, these choices will be remembered. The NPCs and the game world will remember your actions. So when you steal a man's gear, whenever you appear in that area, he will be left in the same condition each time you go to that area, and the same with the others.

Gunpowder in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Saints and Sinners trailer released on 8th June 2024, the use of gunpowder can be seen in a very short cutscene. But the gunpowder seems to be in a very primitive stage accordingly to the time the game is ambiented on. This is a very awkward stage for guns, as they used to be able to load one bullet at a time, with a very low reloading speed, and with a certain delay until the fuse of the gun reaches the gunpowder to finally shoot at a very short range.

Environment Interactions

In the Saints and Sinners trailer released on the 8th of June 2024, there are two interesting interactions that can be seen in first person, where the player is throwing a heavy rock to some guards below, hitting them, and another interaction where, between battle, the player is pushing a ladder from the top of a fortress wall making it fall so no enemies can use it to climb there. We may expect more interesting interactions with the environment that may not be shown yet.

Crafting, Alchemy, and Smithing

In the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Saints and Sinners trailer released on the 8th of June 2024, there's footage both cinematic and in first person of the protagonist heating a metal, then hammering the piece of metal on an anvil and then quickly placing the metal on water, adding Crafting, Alchemy, and Smithing mechanics not only as a feature but also as a stimulating experience to players where they can actually see their weapons being crafted by themselves.

Alchemy will also play a big part in the gameplay loop of KCD 2. Players can expect that they will be going around Trosky and Kuttenberg to gather materials and ingredients, and then use them to craft various items and potions.

KCD 2 Gameplay Hours

According to KCD 2 Developers Warhorse Studios, the game contains over 5 hours of cutscenes and around 80 - 100 hours of gameplay. KCD 2 has a rich story for players to know, and the hours for gameplay can go up for completionists, or those seeking to get the full experience. Players will also get 2 open-world maps to explore: Trosky and Kuttenberg, which expands the game to about twice as large as the prequel.
