In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Playing on a top-level soccer team, I was smaller than my teammates and constantly thought about how to overcome that disadvantage. I focused more on strategy, thinking ahead, and outsmarting opponents, which taught me persistence in the face of adversity. Today, I apply the same mindset to my work, approaching challenges from unconventional angles and finding solutions even when the situation appears unfavorable.

💠 Inspired by IHI’s new TV commercial “Visionaries,” we introduce #51Visionaries, featuring IHI Group employees working in Aero-Engine, Space & Defense Business Area. In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ In my high school wind orchestra, we created an original musical production from scratch. The applause we earned after repeated trial and error with staging and movement, and careful coordination to bring everyone together, continues to motivate me today. Today, this experience supports my current work in maintenance design. By respecting the “story” behind each design and collaborating closely with stakeholders within and beyond our department, I consistently tackle new challenges to find the best solutions.

In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ During my student years, I studied in the United States to earn an aircraft maintenance certification. Believing that hands-on experience was the fastest way to learn, I completed a 1.5-year internship at a local flight school, where I worked directly on aircraft while earning my certification. The deep understanding of airframe and engine structures I gained there remains my greatest asset throughout my work in sales, customer support, and overseas assignments. Because I understand the mechanics, I can empathize with customers’ challenges and provide clear solutions.

In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ During my year studying in the United States as a high school student, I overcame language barriers and loneliness by stepping out of my comfort zone and reaching out to others. I learned that building meaningful relationships starts with the courage to take even a small first step. Today, I apply this mindset in my work—whether engaging with people at MRO exhibitions or collaborating daily with stakeholders both inside and outside the company. By consistently taking the initiative, I strive to expand connections and create opportunities to showcase IHI’s capabilities to a wider global audience. IHI Corporation will be participating in MRO Americas 2026 again this year. Come visit us at Booth #5235 — we look forward to seeing you there! #MROAM #MRO #MROAmericas

In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Through youth soccer and my experience as a middle school volleyball team captain, I developed physical and mental strength, as well as the leadership to bring together teammates with diverse personalities. My high school soccer experience taught me the value of teamwork. I believe that work ultimately comes down to people working together. In engine development, where collaboration beyond a single company is essential, I draw on my ability to connect with others across borders and positions, developed during my student years, to build trust. to respond quickly when issues arise.

In this series, they share what they were most passionate about during their student days—and how those experiences are shaping the work they do today. 🔍 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ During my student years, I devoted myself to softball, and teamwork was essential. In a preliminary round of the national tournament against a prestigious team we'd never beaten, we pointed out each other's weaknesses and encouraged one another throughout the game, and we beat them for the first time. That experience taught me that difficult challenges can be overcome through strong teamwork. I carry this mindset into the workplace today. By reaching out to colleagues who might be struggling and collaborating closely, I help maximize results.

As the movement to realize a decarbonized society is accelerating globally, the aviation industry is also taking steps to reduce CO2 emissions. One such initiative is the introduction of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The IHI Group is currently developing a Power-to-Liquid (PtL) technology to produce liquid hydrocarbons for SAF from hydrogen and CO2 with renewable energy. We interviewed Shinya Okuno and Jian Huang of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Business Planning Group, Technology Planning Department, Corporate Research & Development Division.
