While most of Subnautica 2 is about exploring and going about your own business, there are still some linear progression situations. One that so happens is the Power Plant puzzle found in the later half of the Early Access version of the survival game.
This ensures the player has most of the endgame tools and materials required to go about fixing a massive alien power plant, just to learn a little bit more about the planet and what’s going on. With that said, there are multiple steps to take, and that’s exactly what this guide is designed to help you through.
What is the Power Plant?
In the second half of Subnautica 2, or at least the current Early Access version, you will traverse from the Shallows all the way over to the Observatory and Power Plant. These two locations are linked purely by the fact the Power Plant is what powers the Observatory, but unfortunately it is offline.
This is because one of the turbines on the side of the Power Plant, in the middle of the three legs, is completely busted up. What did this isn't entirely known, but we can get a good idea given the location.
Regardless, this powers the small habitat below along with the alien Observatory to the west, something that needs to be accessed if you want to complete the current storyline and events.
How to Fix the Power Plant
Gathering Tools
Fortunately, fixing it isn’t that big of a problem, it just requires quite a few things. For starters, you will need a Bioscanner to even recognize what is required to fix it. If you haven’t got the blueprint for the Bioscanner just yet, head just south of the Power Plant to find the massive wreck of the Cicada.
Enter here by using your Repair Tool on one of two doors, and you will come across a Bioscanner inside. This requires Enameled Glass, which can be crafted with Creature Enamel, along with Conduit Crystals which can be found nearby.
Next, you need to complete the Angel Comb quest directly below the Power Plant. This alien creature will require you to purge the infestation blooms along its vines, but to do that you will need to upgrade your Sonic Resonator to a Feedback Resonator. Once you clear this out, get your Adaptation from the species.
Collecting the Materials Needed
After this is done, scan the turbine to reveal what it needs to repair:
- 10x Titanium Ingots
- 10x Strontium
- 10x Mangalloy Ingots
All of these require a Processor to complete. The first part is the easiest by far, as Titanium is plentiful near the Observatory. The other two require a bit more work to get, though. For example, Mangalloy takes Troilite and Atacamite, both of which can be found near the Metal Farms.
Thankfully, Strontium only requires two Celestine, which can be farmed just before the Metal Farms in the Root Canyon near the bottom up against the walls. Once you have all the required items, which you will likely need to pack some on your Tadpole, head back to the turbine and repair it.
Powering the Power Plant Up
Now that the turbine is fixed, your next goal is to turn the power excavator back on. First head all the way down near where you got the adaption. There will be a small alien structure on the wall around 380 feet down and to the south.
With the turbine fixed, simply click the giant red orb to lower the excavator onto the alien species. With that, head all the way back above 200 feet directly above you and enter the second alien structure directly across from the turbine.
There will be three panels here. On the right, line up the three levers to the green indicators (along with the arrow on the right pointing to the yellow icon). On the left side, do the same, but there will only be one dial with three pointers.
After that, simply head to the middle panel and turn it on. You will get a rather satisfying conclusion to this puzzle, with some well-done music.
