Located on the far eastern continent, just south of the Red River and north of Beardtree Gorge, you will find a small settlement that, unfortunately, has been going through a bit of turbulence. Crimson Desert is filled with these investigation-type side quests, giving players the chance to help a group to figure out who has wronged them among a number of NPCs who were partially involved.
In this investigation, we talk to Vascal, the Redfox Trading Post manager, who has informed you that there has been a theft of a noble’s porcelain vase. It’s now up to you to interrogate the people involved and conclude who was behind it. With this guide, we will help you navigate the conversations, ensuring you come to the correct conclusion and not have to go through the different dialogue over and over again.
How to Complete The Truth on the Sand in Crimson Desert
Deep in the desert is an investigation you need to solve!
The Investigation
Talk to Renata, the appraiser
This is the first objective you are given, but Renata will be in the house down the road, so you might want to get to her third. Regardless, talking with Renata, she will tell you she arrived shortly after sunrise and spent all morning appraising the ceramics. She left for a commission and returned when the sun was already high in the sky, and the porcelain was already gone.
Talk to Osvald, the warehouse manager
Near the trading post manager in the first location, you will find Osvald pacing about. He’s upset because he’s being held accountable given he’s the warehouse manager and this happened under his watch. He will tell you that he began his inspections after dawn but then left for his office to get his ledgers in order. When he came back, the porcelain was already gone.
Talk to Durvan, the quartermaster
The man furthest from the settlements, you can find the quartermaster's way down the road to the north. Talking with him, he will say that he worked all morning. When he stepped out for a short break, he came back and the porcelain was gone.
Talk to Tarbo, the packer
Next to Renata you will find Tarbo, and he is definitely the shiftiest of the bunch, pacing at great lengths and pointing fingers elsewhere. He will mention that Durvan moved the porcelain and that he had been in the warehouse since sunrise packing crates, and only came out after there was an uproar.
Talk to Sairin, the merchant
Sairin is the only one out of place in this situation as she’s a traveling merchant who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She went into the warehouse after sunset to check on goods in the warehouse and scurried off immediately afterward. She will say that the storehouse master will back her up on this account.
Talk to Grano, the freesword
Upon starting the quest, Grano is the closest to the trading post manager. He is sitting nearby and will inform you that he was guarding the storehouse and that the storehouse master and appraiser left after lunch, and then the foreman stepped out for a break shortly after that empty-handed.
Turning in your Report (Answers)
Now that you have everyone’s information, all you need to do is report back to Redfox Trading Post. Like many of the other investigations, you will need to report exactly what happened from the mouths of each person. If you fail any of the dialogue choices, you will need to start the deduction over again. Thankfully, we have all the correct answers so you can get out there and capture the culprit.
- The ceramic was there until just before lunch but vanished after coming back.
- He was organizing the ledger, preparing for a trade in the evening, and realized that the ceramic went missing.
- He went for a short break before lunch, Grano can confirm it.
- He was too busy working, couldn’t leave the warehouse.
- Says she only visited the warehouse after sunset, the storage master can confirm it.
- First, the storage manager and the appraiser left in order. Next, the transport manager went out empty-handed.
With all the information laid out, it’s apparent to see who took the porcelain vase. Head north to the settlement and interrupt Tarbo trying to do a transaction with a suspicious Wag Driver. Knock him around a little before tying him up and bringing him back to Vascal to be properly punished.
