In Mistfall Hunter, there's a handful of classes to choose from. These classes offer a good variety of gameplay differences to fit the many different playstyles that players may have. The fact that each class counts with its own different skills, talents, and arsenal means that each class will have its own feel for the game. In this guide, we are touching on the Sorcerer class and their ranged, magical approach.

Key Takeaways

  • Sorcerer: staff-only caster mixing Common support magic with Elemental Inheritance for big ranged damage.
  • Core spells: spam Fire Bolt for marks, use Thunderstorm Sigil to stun, Flameblade as instant close tool.
  • Talents & affixes focus on chanting speed, movement and ranged damage (Flexible Casting, Seeker, Swift, Eloquence).

Sorcerer Build Guide

Sorcerers make use of elemental forces that can compete with or even surpass conventional weapons when it comes to damage output. They prefer wielding staves that they use in conjunction with the different schools of spells, each offering different abilities that can be used as support to other players, enhancing their defensive and offensive capabilities.

Sorcerers can be extremely powerful with the right build.

Weapons

Sorcerers can only use one piece of equipment: Staves. In exchange for this limitation, they can use two schools of magic at a time: Common magic, and Inheritance magic. Inheritance magic is more about offensive, damaging spells, while Common magic leans more towards the defense, support roles. You'll have three Inheritance magic slots from the beginning, but only two for Common magic until you reach level five and unlock a third one.

In addition to the above, Inheritance magic has two schools you can choose from: Stardust and Elemental. You will have to choose only one of the schools for your loadout.

Stardust spells are great for knocking enemies back while also dealing some damage, while the Elemental school is more about using elements such as Fire, Ice, and Thunder to deal massive damage and status effects depending on the damage type. For the purpose of this build, we will focus on the Elemental school to maximize damage output. This build is ideal for Sorcerer beginners or solo players, as it can carry you to max level easily.

Spells

At first, your Sorcerer will only have two Common magic spells: Windcraft, and Phantom Step. Windcraft fires a small tornado in front of you, knocking back any foe it hits while also dishing out Magic Damage. The damage output is not the most amazing but the knockback effect is strong enough to make it a valuable tactic in your runs, especially when dealing with other players.

Mistfall Hunter Windcraft
Windcraft deals magic damage to enemies and knocks them back.

Phantom Step, on the other hand, offers more tactical value, since it increases your movement speed while silencing your footsteps, so you can more safely sneak up on players or put some distance in between. Besides that, the spell makes you immune to fall damage and the stagger effect, making you a harder to catch prey for melee-focused players.

Mistfall Hunter Arcane Armor
Arcane Armor increases physical resistances.

On the Inheritance, Elemental side of the spells, the most important aspect is the Elemental mark that you can inflict on your targets. An elemental mark makes it so that the affected enemy takes additional status effects each time they get hit with a spell of the same element, which can dramatically increase your overall damage. The starting spell, Fire Bolt, is versatile enough, in that it lets you deal small amounts of damage at a time if you fire it without charging to recover energy, or a charged up shot that deals more damage and exploding, causing additional burn damage. Fire Bolt also has no cooldown, so it's always a good option to have to avoid running out of spells in a pinch.

Mistfall Hunter Thunderstorm Sigil (1)
Thunderstorm triggers a storm at your target location.

Next, the Thunderstorm Sigil spell is a solid offensive spell with a stunning capability. With this skill, after chanting the spell, you will summon a Thunderstorm Sigil at the target location, triggering a thunderstorm after a short delay, dealing Magic Damage while also stunning anyone caught in its radius. This is a great starter offensive spell to cast against monsters and when you’re fighting players, you can use it to create space between you and your opponent or catch them off guard with a well-placed sigil.

For the final slot, you will want to swap out the Deep Freeze with Flameblade. This will form a Flameblade in hand to attack forward, dealing Magic Damage to enemies within range and inflicting short-term damage over time.

Talents

Next, we will be taking a look at the talents that can help the Sorcerer in most situations, instead of those that only upgrade specific skills. This will help you perform better in different types of situations, whether you are playing solo or with random players. From the Supreme Arcane group, the Masterful Technique talent will grant you increased Movement Speed after casting an Elemental Magic. Since this talent will trigger even after an uncharged Fire Bolt, you can just spam the spell to gain increased movement speed.

Next, the Elemental Arcana talent will grant enhanced elemental reactions giving them additional effects in addition to increased damage when you detonate the Elemental Mark. Each element has its own special effect: Thunder fires off a chain lighting that bounces between multiple enemies, Fire continuously burns enemies and Ice inflicts Frozen status effect on enemies for a period of time. All these effects will help your overall effectiveness when using the Elemental School regardless of the spells you are using and will maximize your damage output.

Mistfall Hunter Hurricane
Increases knockback of Cryptic Cyclone.

Next, from the Way of Discipline 1 Group, taking the Hurricane talent node will upgrade the Windcraft spell. This will increase the knockback distance of the spell which is especially helpful when you’re fighting other players. Then, from the Way of Discipline 2 group, the Enhanced Shield talent will simply increase the duration of the Arcane Armor spell, and the extra duration is helpful since it usually doesn’t last for the entirety of a fight without it.

Next, you will want to focus on taking talents from the Handy Technique group as they provide general buffs that work with all spells. Flexible Casting talent will increase the movement speed while you are chanting and charging up spells and, since the majority of spells require chanting, this is an essential talent to prevent stifling your movement while chanting spells.

Affixes

Affixes are yet another mechanic that increase your effectiveness. There are two different ways to acquire them. The first is from Sigrid, the Tavernwoman, who can prepare a variety of “Victory Wine” that you can take before each match or expedition to give various affixes of your choice. There are different tiers, with each providing a greater number of affixes you can gain. However, only the basic one, the Mortal Tonic can be received for free. The higher tiers require you to upgrade the Tavern and resources to brew them.

Being a class whose main advantage is to attack enemies from afar with spells, you will want to look for affixes that provide extra movement speed. This will help ensure your opponent cannot catch you easily and, when combined with the right talents, that distance between you and the enemies allows you to dish out more punishment.

Mistfall Hunter Seeker Skill
Hitting an enemy increases movement speed for three seconds with Seeker.

The first affix you can target for bonus speed is Seeker, which will increase your movement speed for three seconds when you hit an enemy. The speed you gain depends on the level of the affix and, at higher levels, the bonus can stack twice, letting you become even faster as you continuously strike your enemies.

Mistfall Hunter Ranged
Increases damage from a distance.

Another affix that will help the ranged focus class is the Ranged affix. It will increase the ranged magic damage you deal with the extra damage scaling with affix level itself. If the affix is at least level five, it will also increase the effective range by 12%, allowing you to damage your foes from even further away.

You can also acquire affixes through your gear, since some of the gear pieces have gem slots on them. There are four different types of gems: Agate, Amethyst, Moonstone and Peridot. Each can provide an affix from a specific selection, depending on the gem type. You can forge the gear and gems yourself, which will grant four gems with random affixes, or look for one with the particular affix you want in the Auction House.

Being a ranged focus class with the ability to create distance, focusing on certain functional affixes can help increase your success rate when you’re using the Sorcerer Class. The Swift affix will increase Movement Speed while Crouching, Silent-Walking, Aiming and Chanting. While all of these are useful, the main buff we want is the increased movement speed while chanting, making sure you are not close to a standstill while you are chanting spells, and maintaining some of your mobility during fights.

The “Eloquence” Affix benefits the class greatly, as it increases the Chanting Speed, helping unleash spells more frequently. When reaching level five, the affix will also prevent you from getting interrupted by minor impacts such as light strikes and smaller monsters.

Final Tips

  • The Sorcerer Class excels at taking down enemies quickly with a burst of damage from afar, but that comes with a great risk if an enemy manages to get close. As such, you will want to have options to create distance between you and your foe and keeping skills such as Windcraft off cooldown when you go into a fight will help.
  • The Thunderstorm Sigil is another great tool as the radius of the spell is reasonably large and good placement of the spell can turn a fight around quickly. If there’s a melee enemy player trying to chase after you, putting the sigil down at the base of your foot will easily stun them and leave them open for one of your high damage spells.
  • Using Flame Blade provides a close-ranged option for the class that can easily stagger enemies that are trying to hit you at melee range. Since the spell doesn’t require a chant and comes out instantly, it is especially useful when fighting other players.

While we recommend using this particular combination of spells, the Sorcerer has a multitude of other utility spells that can be extremely powerful, especially when you’re playing in a team of three. If you have a dedicated team, playing around with the different variety of spells at your disposal in a way that benefits your specific team build should also be a fun experience.
