Serpent-Hunter is a Great Spear in Elden Ring. The Serpent-Hunter scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity. It is a good Weapon for attacking enemies at a long reach and does not require any stats value. It is intended for use against a specific boss, Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy.
Weapon that serves as both greatsword and spear.
Thought to have been used to hunt an immortal great serpent in the distant past, it manifests a long blade of light when facing such a creature.
When their master's heroic aspirations degenerated into mere greed, his men searched for a weapon with which they might halt their lord.
Where to Find Serpent-Hunter in Elden Ring
The Serpent-Hunter weapon can be found at the following location:
- Held by a corpse on the left as you enter the boss chamber of Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. [Elden Ring Map here]
- If the players picks up the Serpent-Hunter in the middle of being summoned. After picking up the spear and getting summoned, a second copy of the Serpent-Hunter would appear at the original location upon returning to their world, allowing you to dual wield the Serpent-Hunters.
- This weapon will not be respawned on a New Game Plus. The only way to respawn the weapon is to discard it. After discarding the weapon and reloading your location, the weapon would reappear at its original location provided that Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy was still alive.
- If the player manages to beat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy without picking up the Serpent-Hunter, the weapon disappears.

- Weapon Skill: Great-Serpent Hunt
- This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War
- Can't be buffed with Magic or Consumables
- Serpent-Hunter can be upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones
- A solid weapon for Strength builds due to its A scaling for Strength. While slightly heavier than the Lance and cannot be infused with Ashes of War, the Serpent-Hunter has a horizontal sweep as its strong attacks.
- At 80 Strength and 12 Dexterity, the Serpent-Hunter has 694 AR when one-handed and 747 AR when two-handed.

- NOTE: As of Patch 1.08 incorrect physical attack values of some attacks of the Serpent-Hunter weapon have been fixed.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.
Regarding the weapon's special properties while fighting God-Devouring Serpent and Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy:
- The weapon's attacks, and its weapon skill, will generate additional beams of swirling wind that greatly extend its range to allow the player to hit Rykard from outside the lava pool at his feet.
- Axe Talisman and Spiked Cracked Tear, Claw Talisman (and by extension, Raptor's Black Feathers), Twinblade Talisman, Spear Talisman and Curved Sword Talisman do not affect the special damage of the weapon.
- Warrior Jar Shard and Shard of Alexander does boost the damage of the weapon's Skill.
- Because of the long windup of the skill, people can believe that Godfrey Icon boost its damage, but that is not the case.
- Ritual Sword Talisman, Red-Feathered Branchsword, Kindred of Rot's Exultation and Lord of Blood's Exultation work as normal, and provide a general damage boost. The same applies to the incantation Flame, Grant me Strength.
- Winged Sword Insignia does not trigger while attacking, but does receive the benefit if triggered by another weapon.
- When dual wielding with another Great Spear class weapon, both spears will generate the beams during the powerstance attacks.

Used it to beat Morgott. Love this weapon, probably my favorite in the game rn. This and Marais, switching between the two or dual wielding.

Then it would be useful tool for every build due to not having any stat requirements for spear/shield play style. But like anything else in the game this too is of course only viable for strength builds.

AnonymousWhen I think about it, the fact that this is one of the only weapons to not get affected by the increased heavy attack speed change really speaks to how it might not have been the most thought out or balanced decision.
Like, if they specifically thought "Yeah don't increase the serpent hunter's speed on heavies, that would be too strong" why would that logic not apply to like.... everything else. SURE, for the scenario you use this weapon in it might SEEM like it would be too strong, but uncharged colossal sword heavies are so absurdly powerful in both PVE and PVP after the speed increase, at least for me, they replace light attacks. This goes for even lighter weapons and ESPECIALLY DLC weapons, which that balance change was made to accommodate for the speed of heavy attacks on new weapons designed in the DLC. Heavy attacks went from heavy attacks to chargeable light attacks.

It is quite the "fool-catch" weapon.
You use the weapon skill, the enemies will flee, and then, try to instantly retaliate, so you just need to do the follow up, and they are dead.
Pros and tryhards might not get caught, but a majority of people (including some tryhards) gets caught by this.
Prod teached me it. And it works. Mostly in invasions!

Tested myself, at 70str 15dex a counter did 2772, after equipping the Spear Talisman it did 3188. dummy was a gatefront ruins soldier.

Anonymousas far as I can tell, the information about the axe talisman not affecting the special damage is wrong, as I am consistently doing more damage with it than without. Granted I am only talking about whenever you do a charged attack with serpent hunter, otherwise this site is correct only because the axe talisman doesn't apply outside charged attacks.

AnonymousThis thing is an R2 machine. The R2s are fast (especially the second one) and they also have drastically increased motion values compared to other great spears.
Also, for those who didn't know: The deflecting hardtear also seems to increase the stance damage by guard counters. I used the Serpent-Hunter with a reflect build because the two-handed guard counter of great spears is really fast, and two spontaneous guard counters are enough to stance break a Crucible Knight. This wouldn't happen with normal guard counters.
All in all, this is a really good weapon.

The serpent hunter could be crafted by the hornsent firstly in the bonny village there is a giant snake skin left in the woods nearby the statue that we take the "O mother" gesture secondly the special lighty-windy thing that this weapon creates when facing rykard is so similiar to incantation spira the hornsent seems to be close with such concepts as wind spirits and light.

I don't like having that spear in my inventory. If I put it in storage and someone summons me against Rykard, will it appear in my inventory?

- The partisan is used all throughout the lands between by knights, the partisan's color schemes specifically perfectly match with gelmir knights' armor
- the serpent hunter, which is used to kill the serpent god (I'm unsure about this but i think they're an outer god? Also i said "kill", in reality he can't be slain, he'll return eventually) uses the same magic as the spectral lance, same visual effects, the reason why the serpent hunter doesn't scale with arcane is imo because of the fact that there's already a strength arcane greatspear, they wanted to have a pure strength option fr gameplay purposes

Anonymous1.12 patch notes are incorrect for anyone who has not tested this. The speed of the crouch attack has been decreased, feels about the same as the colossal sword crouch R1 poke now. Much better in my opinion, now I won't feel like a sweatlord using this in PvP because it is an excellent weapon for a strength build.

Anonymousez low effort way to counter losers using this is any glintblade phalanx spell. cast and run then spam roll directly into them. the phalanx will proc and stagger them instantly.
