Radagon Icon is a Talisman in Elden Ring. Radagon Icon shortens the casting time of Spells. Players can use talismans in Elden Ring to boost a variety of Stats.

A legendary talisman depicting the Elden Lord Radagon.

Shortens the casting time of sorceries and incantations.

As the husband of Rennala of Caria, the red-haired Radagon studied sorcery, and as the husband of Queen Marika, he studied incantations.
Thus did the hero aspire to be complete.

According to this wiki dex only affects the startup animation leaving the casting animation fully unaffected. So for each spell you need to know how much cast time is startup and how much is casting - to find out whether dex and this talisman is worth it.

Why isn't there a direct upgrade of this talisman? In DS3 we had Sage Ring +1 and Sage Ring +2.
From really fkced up by making casting speed tied to dex and not mind, DS2 did it the best.

Carian slicer test on 80 int 14 dex build, measured from last idle to first idle frame:

          Single cast:

          14 dex = 104 frames

          14 dex + Radagon Icon = 99 frames (5 frames faster)

          14 dex + RI + Azur Staff = 95 frames (9 frames faster)

          chaining 2 casts:

          14 dex = 141 frames

          14 dex + RI = 131 frames (10 frames faster)

          14 dex + RI + AS = 126 frames (15 frames faster)

          chaining 7 casts:

          14 dex = 292 frames

          14 dex + RI = 276 frames (16 frames faster)

14 dex + RI + AS = 259 frames (33 frames faster, roughly less than 5 frames per cast, but again, the effect seems to diminish with each consecutive cast)

It was more difficult to measure since there's no easy visual cues, so give or take 2 frames, but it's not remotely anywhere a doubled speed as some claim. It's obviously the chaining itself that gives the biggest boost.

Unlike other spells, carian slicer *feels* noticeably faster, I'll give that, but vibes aren't proper measuring method.

Tested this with lightning bolt, and threw the 60 fps recording into a video editing software, because for the life of me I couldn't sense much noticeable difference, if at all, so I decided to just measure it proper. I started exactly from the frame where Tanished begins raising their hand from their idle animation (so very 1st frame of casting animation I believe), to the exact frame where casting animation turns into a projectile. It seemed like the most consistent way, since it turns out there's an entire "empty" frame where the lightning disappears from Tarnished's hand, before it reappears as a projectile.

Anyway, the difference with and without talisman on a character with 10 dex is... exactly 7 frames.

Not "half a second" like some people claimed. 7. frames. in exchange for an entire talisman slot.

But I dunno, maybe it's worth in some life-or-death situations, considering how insanely tight the boss and enemy attacks can be in ER. So I will try to see how it works in practice. But man isn't it disappointing, especially how rings or catalysts that buffed cast speed worked in previous games.

I definitely feel the difference with this on certain spells. One of the most notable is Carian Slicer. Try playing a mage character early on without this and then with it and you'll definitely feel the difference.

Maximum casting speed is 70 Dexterity, and this talisman gives 30 effective Dexterity towards casting speed, so if you want the fastest casting speed, there's no sense in leveling Dexterity past 40 if you use this?

As per lore he lvled Dex and turned to Marika. To avoid such incidents he made a talishman that keeps you from making the same mistake as him. What a chad.

Why is cast speed even a stat. you don't attack faster when you level Dex so why do spells cast faster when you level Dex. just give the spells a balanced attack speed that does not scale

                      • Anonymous

Read here that it helps dragon breath incantations, it doesn't. Why would from make a talisman that does absolutely nothing? And then make people believe it does?

                        • Anonymous

This talisman is a mainstay for me,
difference is about a half second, but doesn't require me to do massive dex investment to get the same result.

But that saved time, is often the difference of being able to get my spell off between dodges and death.

If you're already running a dex build then I would say you don't need this.

Absolute garbage, I fell for the meme thinking it would be helpful but after timing it myself and seeing little to no real boost with respect to speed (Glintstone great Shard Vs Comet shard) I put my foot down that it is a wasted talisman slot to use it.

Do this talisman has effect on Cannon of Haima?
I tested it with 30 dex and I saw no difference, unless i'm doing something wrong

So much of "cast time" is actually fixed-length animations and recoveries that for a lot of spells it's hard to get practical benefits out of this, sometimes even if you appear to be casting much faster at first glance. Not something to equip blindly even for dedicated casters, it's very much a case by case situation and it depends on how much of a spell's full cast time until you have control of your character again is actually eligible for improvement.

people comparing it to sage ring from DS3 forget the crucial fact, that magic and miracles were both useless and extremly weak in that game

                                  • Anonymous

While I think this talisman adding 30 ‘virtual’ DEX is perfectly balanced, I selfishly hope we get a +1 and maybe even a +2 version of this talisman in the DLC that raises virtual DEX by 35 and 40 respectively. I know it would be a bit unbalanced, but I just love my fast casting speeds.

                                    • Anonymous

Why can't cast speed scale, at least partially, with Mind... Also why does this talisman share a scaling limit with dexterity? Like seriously, cast speed already has diminishing returns so why does leveling up a stat to a certain point make the talisman do literally nothing? Just seems like a silly decision to me.

                                      • As far as I can tell from my own tests, the casting speed definitely affects dragon communion incants. By a significant margin, too. (With 27 dex, this makes about .2 seconds of difference in the time flames start coming out for dragonfire).

I can’t tell if casting speed affects the charging speed of incants. Doesn’t really seem like it, but does anyone know for sure?

I wish From will at some point give up on the idea that spell casting speed should scale with dex. There are like 5 people in the world who actually level dex on their casters, most people just uses these rings

40 dex with this makes order's blade/ almost every other weapon buff spell on weapons almost instant with any seal, neat

I must be tripping or something because ghostflame explosion (sorcery) casting and recovery time is insanely long but theres no discernible difference in casting it with and without the talisman...

Casting speed should be tied to: Mind, Intelligence, Faith.

So it is established that it does not work on breath attacks, but have the dragon claw and bite also been tested?

I've been told that this has no effect whatsoever on chain casting spells after the first cast. Is that true? Is chain casting at a fixed rate?

                                                      • Anonymous

From my testing, the casting speed is very noticeable in fast incantations like rock sling, catch flame but not so with slower ones, like giant'sflame take thee and draggon communion spells. But on spells I notice the speed cast buff on all spells charged or not charged, even with slower ones like comet azur.

Conclusion I think this is better for sorceries and I need a +2 version of this like the sage ring in dark souls 3.

I use it on my Bestial Incantation build. I use Cinquedea as my main weapon for the 10% damage bonus so obviously I don't need to level Dex at all. Very noticeable increase in cast times with Stone of Gurranq, Beast Claw just to name a few.

                                                          • Anonymous

alright after some testing i can safely say this is better for casting buffs instead of lowering attack spell time like how the old lord talisman only ups applied buff time and not lingering attack effects, tested with flame buffs and the time was absolutely shorter even with 18 dex but tried with offensive pyromancies and saw no noticeable difference in cast time and the fire leaving my hand, hope this helps a little

                                                            • Anonymous

tbh I just wonder why dex is even tied to cast speed. my two cents nobody asked for is that casting speed would be better for mind, but maybe that would **** balancing somehow through unforeseen consequences? idk, just an interesting choice to basically designate dex as the physical stat for casters in a way, which leaves strength as feeling kind of plain in this department. maybe i'm wrong, maybe i'm being ignorant of some other obscure mechanic... idk, nobody here works at fromsoft, so who knows what the thought process behind all this was during development.

all that said, a +1 and +2 would be welcome additions through dlc. i don't think it would affect balancing too much since the only people who would really need it is those who don't want to level into dex pretty much at all, and it takes away a talisman slot that could be used for other things, but I feel like it could have niche applications that lets certain specific builds shine some more. don't see it becoming a crutch, just another tool in a sea of them.

                                                              • Anonymous

So I was testing this with my Healer build on spells like Golden Vow, Great Heal, Blessing's Boon etc. There is well... almost no difference for casting time. At least not significant to notice.

                                                                • Anonymous

I still dont understand why the geniuses at Fromsoft decided to make casting speed scale with f*ucking dexterity and not Mind. They had already fixed this problem in Best Souls 2 by giving casting speed scaling with ATT but we’ve since regressed. Peak game design choice.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

In Dark Souls 3, the Sage's Ring +2 maxed your casting speed by itself. Even the regular Sage's Ring would put you pretty close to the cast speed cap.

The Radagon Icon only gets you about halfway to the cast speed cap alone. There is a noticeable difference between the casting time of spells when using just the Radagon Icon and when using the Radagon Icon + Azur Glintstone Staff to meet the cap.

Requiring 40 Dexterity + the Radagon Icon to max spellcasting or Radagon's + Azur Glintstone Staff is too much of an investment for what should be an easy cap to meet. Hopefully in the upcoming DLC they will introduce a Talisman that meets the casting speed cap by itself.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

Discus is a nutty spell in terms of FP efficient damage (good range too) but the cast time of the first shot feels like it’s just slightly on the bad side and might end up slightly on the great side if I go to the cast speed cap

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

Still a really good and useful talisman to use though, if you use incantations or melee sorceries definitely worth having it in your talisman slots (I am the same person that wrote the message at 15 Mar 2023 07:41)

                                                                                • Anonymous

Man I hope the DLC will have an upgraded version that give us something like 50 dex because Carian Piercer is still quite slow and I can't use azur glinstone staff, my 2 hands are already busy

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Im convinced its the same guy over an over that's been saying this sucks even though it doesn't.. its still worth 30 stats in casting speed. I can't justify putting dex for the cast speed tbh unless you're level 150+

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Wow a lot of salt here. It’s useful in pvp on slower spells, can be sacrificed when using fast spells. For faith it’s absolutely necessary for wrath of gold, triple rings, barrier of gold, etc in pvp. And all the intelligence one shot spells require it in pvp too. I found radagon icon can also be sacrificed for something else if you’re a tanky build that people naturally run away from: a tree sentinel cosplay can take blessing of the erdtree or barrier of gold without getting punished because people are always running away lol the opposite becomes true when I’m a faith build with no poise and a small weapon so it needed radagon icon.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

I don't know how useful it is with other spells but it made a difference with my madness build and the long casting time that comes with those spells. Was stuck on Elden Beast for a minute and came back to beat it first try, this is also without leveling dex at this point with a flat 10 on the stat.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Man I wish casting speed was tied to mind like it was in DS2... Hopefully there will be a patch in the future that change this.
Also I don't think Radagon Icon is really useless, especially for spells like carian piercer or adula moonblade, but yeah a +1/+2 would be great, who knows ? Maybe the DLC will give us one..

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Lmao only +30 virtual dex ? And this is supposed to be a legendary talisman ? Not worth wasting a talisman slot for this unless they make a +1 and +2 version like in Dark souls 3 in the upcoming DLC.

Seriously even Azur gives more casting speed....

                                                                                            • If you think about it the right way, the description of this item is an extraordinarily cruel joke at Radagon's expense. "Thus did the hero aspire to be complete." Radagon, who is the lesser half of a single being and, at the time we meet him in the Erdtree, doesn't even have a full body anymore, having lost half of his torso and part of his head. The one thing Radagon never was and could never hope to be, even in the end, was complete.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I have done a fair deal of testing with this talisman and I cannot see a real noticeable difference. Not like I could with the sage ring from dark souls 3. I have 18 dex on my caster (currently 23 total dex because of my active rune) and using a bunch of different spells, I cannot see a real difference. Maybe a little bit with swift glintstone shard, I dunno. I can't see if being worth it, unless I am missing something.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  "just use azur staff"

Ok, but maybe I don't want the extra fp cost. Maybe I'm a lower level build at the moment who wants to put more stats into int than mind. Maybe I want to use a staff that boosts my favorite kind of sorcery, and don't want to dual wield staffs. The effect is there, and maybe on full caster builds it isn't worth it, but that doesn't mean that it's useless on every build.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        legendary talisman my ass

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

items you have to switch to have a way higher 'opportunity' cost than a ~1/wt talisman - based on my next assertion; all talismans have very negligible (albeit sometimes exactly what you need in terms of stats, etc) impact on their own. Came to get some info, and got it, scrolled down to comments and found the cast of Don't Pick Up The Phone. Inches make miles in Elden Ring, and aimless equips make YOU DIED

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Starting at 41 dex, after using this talisman the windup for lightning bolt was a good but faster. However, the actual charge didn’t seem to speed up as much. For lightning strike the entire animation seemed shorter, including the time before the actual strikes.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Went through like 800 hours of ER before even finding this, then saw it was supposed to make this huge difference... I swear between this and Malenia it seems like we're all playing a different game

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                                          • Did they fix the dragon incantations? I personally tested it and in fact I did write in this page those magics were not affected (the cast speed was so little different it actually didn't seem to provide any difference, while all other magics had a clearly shorter cast time).

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

For the quickest cast possible, would you want 69 dex + Radagon Icon or go all the way to 99 for 129 spellcasting dex? Or are there caps with diminishing results at 40/60/80 like with other stats?

This is the kind of info I come to a wiki for. I don’t need a needlessly complicated guide on where to find it that could be shown in a 30 second clip in the footnotes.

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Catch flame/wrath of gold/lightning bolt are the only offensive spells where it is necessary. It’s important if you’re gonna buff/heal in combat as well. But all other offensive spells, including triple rings/radagon rings, it’s not as important. I’m just pointing out that maybe jar talisman for armor, etc might be more worth while on faith builds, especially if their the fth/int melee hybrid type like me

                                                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                                                  • I wondered if Dex did anything for my Night Comet build so I did a test with Night Comet. Thought I'd share in case it helped someone.

My casts seemed much slower after respeccing out of Dex and I wasn't having fun anymore. So decided to do a test.

10 Base Dex = 10.77 seconds of chain casting until out of FP.

10 Base Dex + Radagon Icon (30 virtual Dex) + Azur 's Staff (40 virtual Dex) = 7.98 seconds of chain casting until out of FP.

Capping the Dex made the build go from tediously slow to really fun to play. Going to respec now and try to get to 70 Dex. It seems for Night Comet it does make a big difference. In my Incantation runs it didn't even seem to make a difference for the incants I was using.
