Equip Load is one of the Stats in Elden Ring. Stats refer to various properties that govern your character's strengths and weaknesses, as well as how they are affected by interactions in and out of combat. Equip Load determines your mobility based on the total weight of your currently equipped Armaments, Armor, and Talismans, affecting your ability to take evasive actions, depending on the amount of load. This translates into four distinct weight classes: Light, Medium, Heavy, and Overloaded, where dodging and sprinting become impossible. It is important to note that items merely resting in your inventory do not contribute to this weight. It is one of the Base Stats which are directly affected by a player's Main Attribute distribution, specifically increased by leveling up the Endurance attribute. Stats such as Equip Load are an important aspect of character progression in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring Equip Load Guide
- Equip Load is a Base Stat that directly affects a character's ability to move and take evasive action. Specifically, Equip Load affects your ability to perform dodge rolls and backsteps.
- Equip Load is represented in the Status Screen as two numbers in a fraction. The number on the left determines the total weight of your currently equipped Weapons, Armor, and Talismans, while the number on the right indicates your Maximum Equip Load, which is directly affected by your Endurance stat.
- Higher total weight equipped increases Fall Damage by a small amount at high Equip Load.
- Backstep recovery time only affects the time it takes to start moving normally after backstepping or to backstep repeatedly, not the time it takes to do a Lunge Attack.
- Rolls and backsteps always cost 12 Stamina regardless of Equip Load.
| Weight Ratio % | Status | Roll Invincibility Duration in Frames at 30FPS (and milliseconds) | Recovery Frames | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ≤ 29.9% | Light Load | 13 (433ms) |
8 (233ms) |
Further roll distance and quicker backstep recovery than Medium Load. |
| 30.0% – 69.9% | Med. Load | 13 (433ms) |
8 (233ms) |
Same iframes and recoveries as Light Load. |
| 70.0% – 99.9% | Heavy Load | 12 (400ms) |
16 (533ms) |
|
| ≥ 100.0% | Overloaded | - | - | Unable to perform rolls or backsteps. Standard movement becomes slow and cumbersome. |
How to Increase Maximum Equip Load in Elden Ring
- A player's maximum Equip Load can be increased by adding points to Endurance.
- Endurance is one of the 8 Main Attributes that players can spend Runes on to level up.
- The ability to level up is unlocked shortly after meeting Melina for the first time near the beginning of the game.
- Leveling up can be done at any Sites of Grace once unlocked.
- The amount of Runes required to raise an Attribute increases with each character Level.
- Runes are obtained primarily by defeating Enemies and Bosses. Certain consumables such as the Fringefolk's Rune can also be used to gain a fixed number of runes.
RELATED EQUIPMENT & ITEMS in Elden Ring for EQUIP LOAD
You can use the following Equipment and Items to increase your Equip Load:
ELDEN RING EQUIP LOAD NOTES & TIPS
- The maximum obtainable Equip Load is 205.6 and is reached when a character with 99 Endurance equips Great-Jar's Arsenal
and Erdtree's Favor +2. This means the highest load you can carry while still maintaining the fastest rolls is 61.4.
This can be temporarily increased even further to 925.3 when drinking a Flask of Wondrous Physick with a Winged Crystal Tear. - Elden Ring's Equip Load does not come into play while mounted; using the Spirit Steed will bypass any movement restrictions.
- Additionally, Stamina is not consumed out of combat, so players can sprint indefinitely while exploring.
- Fall Damage is increased starting at 70% Equip Load. At 100% Equip Load, you'll take 10% more damage from falls, up to 30% at 150% Equip Load.
Equip Load Increase by Endurance Level
- The soft caps are 25 and 60.
- The formulas for calculating Equip Load are as follows:
- Level 1 - 25 --> 45 + 27*((Lvl - 8) / 17)
- Level 26 - 60 --> 72 + 48*(((Lvl - 25) / 35)^1.1)
- Level 61 - 99 --> 120 + 40*((Lvl - 60) / 39)
- Only the first decimal point is kept.

Anonymouswith all the cool ashes of war you are still heavily discouraged from equipping more than one main weapon. This is why bloodborne was king, no equip weight nonsense.

AnonymousI love when my light loading opponent rolls twice and I can no longer engage with them I love being at a complete disadvantage in every regard outside of defense which was mitigated by a single boiled crab.

Anonymousyou don't run faster with light load but your jumps are faster and you can jump longer distances

Anonymous"Equip Load determines your mobility based on the total weight of your currently equipped Armaments, Armor, and Talismans, affecting your ability to take evasive actions, depending on the amount of load."
Idk if they meant mobility of evasive actions only, because that is exactly what it does. I checked beceause I couldn't find info about character movement speed and stuff and compared walking at max and 0 load and you go exactly the same speed. Oh and running is exactly x1.5 your walk speed. Idk if there's another page on the wiki that talks about that cuz I can't find anything.
fatrolling makes me want to gouge my eyes out. cant believe people willingly fatroll

I think your equip load should be matched to your weight in real life, so all the fatties have to fat roll in the game

AnonymousMy dumb### was heavy load for almost the ENTIRE game (up until like godfrey) because i didn't know what a "heavy" load was on my first playthrough. I just assumed that it didn't matter.

AnonymousFrom what I can gather, the heaviest and most overloaded you can be is: Prophet starting class (lowest endurance of 8, which is 45 total equip load) full Bull-Goat set which weighs 63 (Verdigris weighs 61.3), 6 different Fingerprint Stone Shields (heaviest equipable in the game, each weighs 29) then the 4 heaviest talismans which are the Verdigris Discus (4.5), Talisman of Lords Bestowal (3), Talisman of All Crucibles (1.9), and Millicent's Prothesis (1.6) for a total of 248 Miyazakis, which is 203 over the tiny weight limit the Prophet has. I guess you could also add the ironjar aromatic too for the funnies. Basically, you would be killed by gravity for just existing (instead of just when falling two blades of grass too far)

Might just be me, but the light roll doesn't feel really good like people talk about it.
Everytime I light roll I see myself positioned too far from the enemy, and I would have to roll towards them again and then again I'm too far on the other side. The spacing is just hard to calculate for me.
Med roll kinda works better+ better armor
AnonymousWhy does light rolling feel so much better when it has the same frame data as medium rolls?

Just to get the info all in one place, light roll cutoff for 25/60/99 END are = 21.5 / 35.5 / 47.5. Greatjar Arsenal talisman will increase those by 19%. Erdtree's Favor will increase by 5/6.5/8% based on which variant you have. The cutoff for medium rolls, arguably what most of us will be using, with 25/60/99 END are = 50 / 83.5 / 111.5. Alternatively you can equip the heaviest armor in the game, 2 Ruins colossal swords, the Jar Arsenal talisman, then pop a flask with the Winged Crystal tear and light roll like a goober despite being as heavy as a pickup truck......

AnonymousIs the difference between light and medium roll even noticeable? I have medium rolled all my elden ring playtime so I wouldn't really know how light roll feels but from the info on this page I can conclude that it wouldn't really make a difference at least in my case. I never use backstep so that's one advantage gone and I think everyone uses rolling just for the iframes and the roll distance wouldn't matter in that regard, either. So basically there is no difference here. I guess all I wanna say is that since they both have the same number of iframes, it just isnt worth it to sacrefice all that armor to go for light rolling. Is there any info that's missing on this page and I'm not taking into consideration? It might also be worth mentioning that I only do PvE.

Anonymousshouldve copied ds3 mid roll + ds1 poise in Elden Ring. Instead we got ds1 mid roll + ds3 poise. Comment under this is right

Anonymous
AnonymousProbably not the best place to ask but is it worth dropping my 52 poise for fast rolling? I use mostly fast weapons and dexterity based but I'm not sure if the poise and bit of armor I have is worth it considering the poise is generally low and I do a lot of pvp so I'm wondering if I'm better off with the fast rolling for my playstyle.

AnonymousDoes anyone know if mass leveling your equip load will transfer over to the dlc? That despite the new doc level restrictions, I’ll still be able to carry a lot more stuff?

Anonymous
Anonymous
AnonymousSo how much endurance do I need so that I can ninja flip while wearing full Havels?

AnonymousDoes anyone know if your equip load is 69.96% (58.7/83.9) if you would medium or fat roll? I'm planning a build and I really want to use armor that comes out to that equip load, and I feel like it should medium roll since it's below 70%, but idk if the game rounds it up to 70% (I also don't know if fat rolls start at exactly 70% or if it's anything over 70). The build planner I'm using says it would fat roll but idk if that's accurate.

AnonymousYOU CAN ONLY HAVE GREAT JARS ARSENAL OR ARSENAL CHARM. YOU CANNOT EQUIP BOTH. EDIT THE ARTICLE TO REFLECT THIS SO OTHERS DO NOT WASTE THEIR TIME AS I DID

Anonymousso with 99 lvls in endurance(160weight) + 1 talisman (21weight) you can wear heavy armors up to 60 and still do a lightroll. 181 / 3. Mostlikely NG+3-7 to make it happen but then you can finally enjoy lightrolls with a nice armor :)

AnonymousFor any of you wondering if there is any running speed difference between medium and light load, there isn't, I tested it with a friend. He had light load while I had medium load, we did a race, we tied.

AnonymousQuick newbie question, is the distance of feint attack (curved sword and thrusting sword) fixed or gonna affected by equip load like rolling?

Anonymousisn't sprinting slightly (but noticeably) faster on light load? Or is it a mere illusion do to when on normal load I wear moderate heavy armor which sounds/looks slower than wearing a robe on light load?

AnonymousDS3 had the percentage relative your equip load, effectively helping you monitoring changes and tresholds.
ER forces you to either do a calculation, or test it out and follow the text.
It's a small thing, but I find it annoying.
AnonymousIs there any truth to attack speed being affected by equip load? I became curious when Ensha attacked at Roundtable Hold, and I was wielding the same weapon, and she out-paced my attacks by a strong margin.
I tend to feel that if an NPC can do it, so should we be able.
AnonymousLet's go! i can keep in medium weight with my pumpkin helm, bullgoat armor and 6 fingerprint shields at once with the 925.3 equip load strategy

AnonymousIt's such a shame that being fat increase fall damage, but doesn't increase the damage from the jump skills like erdtree slam. You effing jump on an ennemy, of course your weight should come into the calculation of the damages

AnonymousDo you run faster at light load? The cadence of your steps are defo faster. I feel faster too but maybe it’s placebo. But the cadence is quite a bit faster than medium.

AnonymousThe medium roll formula is explained below in simple terms:
Take your equiped load (your armour, weapons, talismans) and times it by 100 then divide that by 70 and then that number will be the minimum equipload needed eg: equiped load = 57.2 | 57.2 x 100 / 70 = 81.714 | 81.714 is the minimum equip load needed to med roll with 57.2 equiped load, then use the EQUIP LOAD INCREASE BY ENDURANCE LEVEL graph in this page to find the minimum level.
Anonymoustrying to use medium load after several runs of light load is a nightmare

Anonymous
AnonymousCan anybody confirm whether the light roll is still a good route to go for in PvE after the 1.09 nerf? Before the nerf, it felt almost as good as DS1 light roll.

AnonymousRebirthing with rennala shows your base equip load and not what you'll get in addition to your talismans. If you're on the rebirth screen use
'X' as your base equipload
'Y' as your equipload plus erdtrees favor 2 talisman
The formula is: X+(X×0.08)=Y and then you do Y+(Y×0.19) to get the final equip load
This means great jars gives you a plus 19% to you your total After what erdtree favor 2 gave you, not just base 27% increase
AnonymousA lot of people absolutely loath fighting against someone using light load because it makes roll catching impossible for certain weapons and promotes passive play. Personally if you aren’t passive I don’t care too much since there are at least some trade offs to using light load, though if you are passive I’m gonna bring out the Cleanrot sword.

AnonymousI feel poise should be made a little more reliable and stronger so there is an actual trade-off between choosing heavy armor and light armor besides, of course, damage absorption. Atm is better to just go for the light roll if your build allows it.

AnonymousOkay, after some more testing, get light load. If you're an evasion based player, it's almost as important as it was in Dark Souls 1. Unless you're carrying a big shield or use ranged magic, you'll need it.

AnonymousI could be completely off base here, but I feel like light load also affects your movement speed, particulary when you're locked on and circling around an enemy. With low encumbrance, I felt like I could easily slip in and out of range of my opponents, whereas with heavier armor this seemed pretty hard to do.

Anonymous
AnonymousLight roll mage in the arena is pure cancer unless you are also a light rolling mage

AnonymousLiterally the only counter to a passive player using light roll is to light roll yourself. That's the hallmark of a broken feature.

Anonymousi am determined to get medium load with giant crusher finger print shield and full bull goat armor

AnonymousBreakpoints are incorrect. At 160 equip load, 29.9% is 53.51... But I'm going into medium load at 48 equip weight.

AnonymousI think that equip load should effect defensive play equally in either direction. Lighter loads obviously boast a better dodge, but I think that heavier loads should not be so vulnerable to "kinetic" abilities (knockback, knock down, etc.)
I think that's just weight in general, looking back on what I typed. I cannot comprehend the right answer to this, but I would like for weight to mean more than a requirement for Endurance.
Anonymouslight load should have its own running animation like heavy load

AnonymousAll hail the DS2 Mega Rolls we got in 1.06! Light Roll is mostly worth it again!

Anonymousthrusting weapon mfs when i dont get immediately rollcaught to death because i can out distance them with light rolls

AnonymousThe running animation when you're in heavy load looks like the way someone would run if they just soiled themselves.

AnonymousThis page is wrong. Radagon's Soreseal can be combined with Erdtree's Favor +2 and Great Jar Arsenal at 99 END, while wearing either Imp's Head (Wolf) or Hierodas Glintstone Crown, for the absolute maximum Equip Load. Visions of dodging...

AnonymousI'm bit sad that heavy has -20% stam recovery. I might've tried no-roll build with shield and heavy armours, but shield requires high recoveries. Which forces those builds into jarsenal, wasting one talisman slot.

AnonymousWhen I read the 1.06 patch notes I was really skeptical that light loads would be useful with the only benefit being further roll distance, but after completing almost a whole playthrough with a light load, I can say that I was so wrong: the light roll is amazing and absolutely worth it. It may not have any more iframes, but it's way better at just getting out of harm's way. Just one roll will take you to a safe distance against most enemies. It's especially useful for builds that prefer to stay at range. When I went back to another character with a medium load, it immediately felt sluggish in comparison. I don't think I could ever go back.

AnonymousThe wiki says < 29.9 is light load, my character has a 29.5 equip load but I’m still medium load. Am I doing something wrong?

AnonymousI think it would be better if devs reworked light roll in a different manner. Don't make it as strong, but lower the requirement (let's say 35% or even 40% equip load instead of 30%), and nerf the winged tear so high-poise, high resistance fast roll builds are much more difficult to abuse

Anonymouslight roll is good after 1.06, was able to beat tree sentinel right out of the gate for the first time (i'm terrible). Regardless, light load should still receive more buffs. perhaps increased stamina regen, or faster movement speed, faster attacks after rolls, etc.
Its a fair tradeoff for lack of poise and durability
Anonymous
Anonymouswell ****, I'm starting to regret going light for 40+ levels -_- really disappointed there isn't a bigger difference. I wonder if it would be too OP to make light armor function like quickstep?

AnonymousThis is dumb. What's the point of light load when med load is exactly the same but you get to be tankier? The roll distance isn't increased that much compared to ds3 where light load was pog.

AnonymousHi does anyone know that with the same load range, lighter load will have longer rolling distance or not?
For example, 10% load and 20% load will have different rolling distance (both in light load)?
AnonymousI have a poor boy mechanic for swapping to my colossal weapons. Sort gear by attack power, insta scroll to bottom of list by tapping up once, boom. Now if you can't equip it without going heavy even by itself then you're just gonna have to suck it up and roll like my fat self irl

Anonymous"This means the highest load you can carry while still maintaining the fastest rolls is 61.4.
This can be temporarily increased even further to 925.3 when drinking a Flask of Wondrous Physick with a Winged Crystal Tear."
wow, 925.3 eh! I can't wait to find out when we get the DLC where you could possibly reach this Outer God level equipment loading
AnonymousYou can get away with being very mobile at high equip loads by using Torrent. This will let you ride around at normal speed without getting slowed down.
— Courh the Explorer
AnonymousMinor point but it seems like the light roll threshold is ≤30% and not ≤29.9% as stated. I have 48.0 equip load, 160.0 maximum equip load and I'm in light load, that's exactly 30%.

AnonymousHas anyone tested light load sprint speed?
I notice that if I go from medium load to light load, my characters footsteps are faster.
Anonymous
AnonymousEND should increase equip load less (maybe just a flat 1 for each level, or less) and STR should’ve given a small increase of ~0.4
makes no sense that fast dex builds get to have the same passive poise as slow strength builds
Anonymous
"The soft caps are 25 and 60" Lmao, No. The Soft-Cap is 25, the Hard-Cap is 60 and the Cap is 99. To use words appropriately you need to understand what they mean. You can't have several Soft-Caps because then they're not "Soft-Caps" at all. Is like saying "This thing has 3 halves", is an oxymoron.

AnonymousLight load deserves an extra iframe, faster movement speed, SOMETHING. You're gonna sacrifice good armor and multiple weapons on your quickbar for a slightly farther roll distance?
I want light load to be good so bad...
AnonymousThe things I do to wear the Crucible Knight armor with my favorite gear & medium load. The fashion stat.

Anonymousi have 42.1 load with 133.3 max and have no light state. can anyone explain why?

AnonymousI believe high equip load makes Torrent's after sprint running time last less, starting its walking speed earlier. ¿Can someone confirm this?

AnonymousI just tested, you take significantly different fall damage depending on your equipment load

Light load gives you slightly faster movement speed, which is where the value is. It’s barely noticeable until you start actually playing with light load. In a game where spacing is so important, that little bit extra speed often means the difference between avoiding an attack or getting hit. But it’s all dependent on play style, so results greatly vary.

Anonymousin the first playthrough is fine, because you sacrifice endurance for other stats but everything makes a difference, but i feel like when you get high level and you are a mage or a dexterity you are obbligated to use those heavy equipments even though you dont want to...

Tested light load rolls and backsteps plus heavy backsteps, updated info. A light load gives you slightly longer rolls in terms of distance covered and the recovery time after a backstep is ever so slightly reduced, as far as I could tell. Heavy backsteps have much longer recovery time.

AnonymousI cant believe the iframes for this game is lower on medium roll than light roll without they communicate to the player visually like in ds 1.

AnonymousIs there any way to make a graph similar to your "endurance investment" graph that shows you what your optimal endurance level needs to be to meet the mid roll requirements of your load out?
For example if your equip weight is like 67 then your endurance level needs to be 40 and so on?
I think that could be very useful.
AnonymousShould be noted that Vyke's Dragonbolt, the incantation, increases your maximum equip load by 15%

Anonymous
AnonymousSo, somebody cooked up a script and mined some of the iframes. It’s on the Reddit. Their findings were that standard and light rolls had the same iFrames, and fat rolls had ever so slightly less (like, 25 compared to 26-27). The kicker was that light rolls had significantly fewer startup frames, and fat rolls had significantly increased end frames. The startup difference in light rolls might explain the people who are claiming light rolls cover more ground over time than medium rolls.

AnonymousOk so i've watched every video possible and read many posts on this, so basically, there REALLY isn't any difference between light and medium roll, only 10% distance on rolls, and quicker backstep (not like anyone uses this anyway) Other than that there is no difference in iframe which is sad, cause why would you put on very light armor and take extra dmg when all you get for it is 10% distance on your rolls, that's some stupid garbage right there.

AnonymousSpend around 1 hour for testing. So, fast rolls, a bit longer, try do 10-15 rolls in a row and u'll see difference, it's about 10% distance.
Fast rolls animation a bit faster, try do 10-15 rolls in a row with time secured, difference the same, about 10%
About iframes, not so sure, but i think, fast rolls have same iframes, but a little faster recovery time - time when u still in roll animation, but alredy without iframes.
AnonymousEither 70% for medium load is not exact, or amounts are rounded.
I have 62.3 equip load. 70% of 62.3 is 43.61, however, with 43.6 equipped, it's heavy. 43.5 is fine though.
AnonymousLight equip also effects jumping backwards (tap dodge button while not moving). I tested with 44 back jumps , the light equip reached the destination 3 seconds earlier.

AnonymousThere is a good way to see the difference between light roll distance and medium roll distance yourself. Go to mountain top of giants, with light equip walk/jog in to the diagonal of the a telescope, then roll forward in to the telescope , then roll again the other direction (it seems to buffer input). You will see your foot prints. Now repeat with medium roll and you will see the difference is a bit less then length of your own foot. Repeat several times until the original footprint disappears , i was not able to reach the fast roll distance.

Anonymous"Fast Rolls Light State: Standard roll. No difference in stamina recovery, animation, distance, nor stamina usage from medium load. Iframes needs further testing."
The distance part is not true. I tested roll distance with medium and light equip load while starting at the same spot and I could see that the roll made it a further distance with the light equip load. It was a very small difference and may not be worth the extra armor you'd lose, but it's there.
AnonymousFast roll gives you a much farther dodge roll from side to side when locked on. Not sure if you get more I-frames, but you get much more distance

AnonymousFor anyone with equip load problems, you can use great jar arsenal with erndtree favor. However, you cannot mix great jar arsenal with the other weight load arsenal charm.

AnonymousI've seen some reports that fast and mid rolling have the same amount of iframes. Can anyone who's tested confirm?

AnonymousAfter noticing that your walk/run animation changes depending on your equipment load, I did a little testing and your move speed seems increase with a light load, and decrease with a heavy load.
Not by a huge amount; maybe somewhere in the range of 10%.
I tested it by going to a Grace next to a patrolling enemy, and seeing how far from the start it would be by the time I ran to it.
Swapping load back and further, it was consistently further along with a heavy load and nearer with a light load.
I also test sneaking without crouching like someone else mentioned, but load seemed to have no effect on that. I was always spotted from behind at the same distance.
It would be interesting, if anyone has the means, to investigate if there is any benefit to light armor other than the stealth aspect. Stamina regeneration, i-frames, something. Being that likely everyone will be putting points into endurance, it would surprise me for lighter armor to be relatively useless.

AnonymousI just saw a video comparing spped and distance of medium and light roll and they were the exact same. So currently there isn't any proven benefit of light equipment load yet? Seen some people mentioning iframes, but has this been tested yet? Currently seems no difference.

Equip load should not be increasable by any stat. It should be a set in stone 100% threshold all players need to account for equally. There might as well be only 2 roll types in the game with how endurance is balance currently and poise monsters should not be able to med roll comfortably with over 104 poise. High poise granting armors need to be heavier.
Light load would use the ninja flip animation from Ds1 with
Medium load would have its I-frames reduced to 12 instead of 13
Heavy load would be a short hop/sidestep with 11 frames of Hyper Armor instead of I-frames
