Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Key Features

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Announcement

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 with Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, as revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025. This marks the first appearance of the acclaimed action RPG on a Nintendo platform, scheduled for release in 2025. The announcement highlights a significant third-party addition to the Switch 2’s lineup, following the console’s release on June 5, 2025.

The Nintendo Direct trailer which aired on April 2, 2025, presented gameplay footage of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the Switch 2. It featured familiar scenes from the base game—combat against demigods like Radahn and exploration of the Erdtree—as well as moments from Shadow of the Erdtree, including the Land of Shadow’s dark landscapes.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition includes the full base game, originally launched in February 2022, and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, released in June 2024. The base game features an open-world adventure across the Lands Between, where players, as a Tarnished, explore six major regions—Limgrave, Caelid, Liurnia, and others, to restore the shattered Elden Ring. The expansion adds the Land of Shadow, a new area with additional bosses, weapons, and narrative elements centered on Miquella. The trailer showcased this combined content running on Switch 2 hardware. The release of Tarnished Edition will be on August 28, 2026. It will be available for all platforms as a separate DLC pack purchase.

ER Tarnished Edition: Everything We Know So Far

Gamescom New Exclusive Classes: Revealed!

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition features exclusive Armor Sets, new weapons, customization options for Torrent, new classes, and includes the base game with the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion. Gamescom 2025 ran from August 20 to 24, 2025, showcasing exciting announcements and news for a ton of games to come in 2025 and the succeeding years to come. One of the booths that was present at the event was the Nintendo booth, where players got the chance to try out Elden Ring's Tarnished Edition on the Switch 2, showcasing one of the new classes exclusive to Tarnished Edition, the Heavy Knight.

In a reddit post, a short video can be seen showcasing the Heavy Knight in the character creation, and some action in combat during the tutorial part of the game that takes place at The Chapel of Anticipation. The Heavy Knight features a robust black heavy-plated armor set and a curved greatsword. Observing its design, it reminds us of classic knight builds in other Souls series, and we can say that this class is meant for players who favor melee combat. The rumored Knight of Ides by contrast will allegedly wield a unique light greatsword and accompanying shield.

As of time of writing. Bandai has officially posted the Idus Knight as the official name for the new class in their website. The Idus Knight's description seen in the Bandai websiste says "knight of the land of Idus, famed for
their lightweight attire and weaponry, which they wield with ample dexterity."  As the description suggest, the Idus Knight would most likely be a Dexterity focused class.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition New Content

The announcement also introduced 2 exclusive features for this edition: 4 new Armor Sets and 3 customization options for Torrent, the player’s spectral steed. The trailer displayed these armor sets as visually distinct from existing designs in addition to new weapons from past titles, while the Torrent customization appeared as an aesthetic modification, with no further details provided on their functionality. One of these armor sets is reminiscent of Lucatiel from FromSoftware's Dark Souls 2. She wore Lucatiel's Set and wielded the Mirrah Greatsword. They would reappear in Dark Souls 3 as the Mirrah Set and Hollowslayer Greatsword respectively. The accompanying red cloth in the trailer is something new, perhaps inspired from a muleta utilized in bullfighting.

As of the April 2, 2025, announcement, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2. The trailer and accompanying details establish it as a complete package of the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and new armor and Torrent customization options. According to official sources, Tarnished Edition will be released on August 28, 2026 and available for other platforms through a separate DLC pack purchase. Further information on performance specifics, pricing, or additional features has not been released at this time.

Mount customization will be added to Elden Ring with the Tarnished Edition. There is three confirmed new options for Torrent Customizations. One of which is the white form shown above. Furthermore screenshots of the possible Night's Cavalry Skin for Torrent is speculated to be other skin. Torrent with their distinct horns now wearing the signature black caparison of the Night's Cavalry.

What is definitely a confirmed addition is a remade set inspired by Lucatiel of Mirrah from Dark Souls II as shown here at the image above. Though obviously not the same with the differences of appearances, it has been reworked with its designs that  are more militaristic compared to the first, with much more detailed and intricate flourishes, and increased armor coverage compared to its former counterpart. Alongside this, two other possible sets are heavily influenced by the designs of Henri of Astora and Horace the Hushed from Dark Souls III. These sets are most likely going be just as updated as original design would most likely be changed compared to their originals. Though their new designs would still echo the origninal armors and most likely distinguish them from item designs found in the Lands Between.

Assuming we get a Nintendo Direct next week, I'm going to say it will get a formal release date for later this Summer. Aside from the initial showings on Switch 2, it has been able to run at a locked 30 fps while in handheld every other time we've seen the game. I'd bet good money that the game has been optimized for some time now, just Bandai Namco wanted to find a good spot to plug it for their financial earnings, especially if The Duskbloods comes out in the Fall. That would give Fromsoft, and by extension Kadokawa two massive earning quarters back to back. I mean GRRRRR IT IS ALL NINTENDOS FAULT!!! SWITCH 2 CAN'T RUN ANYTHING!!! A POTATO IS MORE POWERFUL!!!

they should add nightreign garbs as armors for tarnished edition. it would be a big W, And maybe they should also add more weapons too maybe a blood perfume bottle for bleed builds and maybe a scarlet rot perfume bottle(bromine build)?

        • Anonymous

I hope there is a lot more bonus content than what has been teased. Given how long it’s taking I assume so.

          • Anonymous

Add the Farron Greatsword, Set of Artorias, Gravelord Greatsword Dance and King's Ultra Greatsword and then this might be worth the purchase.

Wow you mean I can wield the Iconic Mirrah Greatsword from Critically Acclaimed Video Game Dark Souls 2 wherein a tyrannical queen convinces her husband to war with giants, and then exiles him and destroys the realm afterwards in my Critically Acclaimed Video Game Elden Ring wherein a tyrannical queen convinces her husband to war with giants, and then exiles him and destroys the realm afterwards?

I just want to experience everything this game has to offer all over again, from the pve to the pvp with fresh new characters. I dont know how long I can hold out... its been a year of putting off a new playthrough and its eating away at me. Ive played the rest of the soulsborns in the time of wait but my love for elden ring cant be topped. Even if it is just a few skins and armors, I dont wanna miss a thing. I WILL EXPERIENCE THIS DEFINITIVE VERSION OF THE GAME. BUT I CANT HOLD OUT MUCH LONGER!!!!

                • Anonymous

I really hope this long wait is FromSoft adding in at least a little more content than initially advertised, because if not... bruh.

If I were them, I would make it so the Leda gank fight is optional. Also, maybe make Gideon & Godskin Duo optional, but these two aren't as pressing. I think it would also be good if you could open the map while been attacked, but you just couldn't teleport. Finally, I would maybe implement a teleporter directly to the Haligtree which becomes accessible after beating the base game. These are the QoL improvements which I think would most benefit the gameplay.

Why is everyone so excited for new starting classes? You're going to abandon the starting gear within an hour for your usual cheese setup anyway.

y'all it's almost been over a year since this was announced let's just stop holding our breaths and find better games to move on to

                            • easily one of fromsoftwares worst decisions. nintendo is a Greedy asf company. and we know nintendo's greedy self will try to take the IP of elden and pump microtransactions into elden ring (oh wait that's EA that does it)

You know how hk: silksong fans sacrificed mossbag to bring skong to life? Maybe that's what we need. We need a sacrifice to satiate lord Miyazaki. Vaatis blood for tarnished edition :)

Honestly kind of exciting to see some love still invested into a series people claim to be old now. Plus more reason to see what crazy build Fextra comes up with.

talk about betraying their own playerbase with this and especially the duskbloods

I want nothing to do with nintendo with their dated draconic practices and insane prices

just drop the content already and let the switch 2 owners wait, if you support nintendo enough to buy a switch 2 when there hasnt even been a new smash bros game yet you deserve to be punished anyway

                                    • Anonymous

The switch 2 unable to run ER is not surprising. Nintendo cheapes out on components and now everyone else suffers. They should release the Tarnished edition for everyone and say **** Nintendo.

Ouch, Switch gets the love and care for it's optimization work and 2 free DLC one of which we may not get while the pc version rots from scarlet stuttrr

i know it says "switch 2 only" but so far every souls game was eventually packaged with it's own DLC for all platforms while also calling said package _____ edition... so basically i'm sure they gonna bring whatever that is to all modern platforms

Delayed until Miyazaki stops diverting all resources doubling the poly count and painting 4k textures on feminine feet for all NPCs. Tragic really that I won't be able to pay $100 to play it on my Nintendo iPad at 20fps and half the fx missing.

Assuming the new stuff is released as DLC for the other consoles, I’d love to get my hands on the Lucatiel set for PS5.

                                              • Anonymous

Id be so disappointed if, after almost a year of waiting, it really was just 2 classes, 1 new set of armor, and torrent reskins. Youre telling me that other platforms like pc and ps5/Xbox had to wait that long for a nothing burger? No implementation of cut content from base game and dlc, no new quests or anything, no increased player limit, no boss rush, just some sprinkles that you'll have to pay for if you want an "advantage" in stats compared to others. Yknow at the very least I would forgive them if the raised the amount of characters you can create and removed certain flags on name creation (try spelling knight without it being flagged). In the time I've been waiting I've drafted 15 unique characters and it breaks my heart that I can only make 10 and ill have to resort to save scummimg to get the other 5.
Anyway this'll probably be out by mid to late February, the anniversary is coming up, no better time than then.

Heavy Knight is going to be really strong, even if the starting gear is bad, those stats are cray good for non-caster builds, especially Strength builds.

                                                  • Anonymous

Tbh I really need witch gothic outfits like Karla or Recluse, because Elden Ring witches outfits are less attractive.

                                                    • Anonymous

Waste of resources just like nightreign. All this is going to do is make switch kiddies mad and make mods outdated. New classes? Bleh. Skins? Bleh.

                                                      • Anonymous

in case you don't hate nintendo enough (which would be surprising), just know that the only reason this has taken as long as it did to release is because the switch 2, for all its hype and bluster, somehow can't even run the game in limgrave at a semi steady framerate despite being their biggest "next-er gen" console, it would have been ready within 5 months of announcement if it were just for playstation/xbone/pc btw

                                                        • Anonymous

Once this drops on other platforms, can't wait for Seamless coop to be updated.
Want to play the game with my friend who never finished ER, and use some of the new goodies.

Even if the starter gear on the new classes gets outclassed by existing gear in game, it'll be fun to run the early game with different stuff than usual.

God help me, please release this alongside some PvE balance changes for the rest of us. So much stuff in this game could be drastically improved with a few number changes, especially in the lategame. You think people cried about malenia hard on release? Just wait until the switch audience gets to her, if they can even endure the haligtree.

                                                            • Anonymous

After gamescom, not much has been said abt the game except the thats it coming this year and that the quality was terrible and needs more time to cook. Now besides the possible delays due to Optimization, imagine that its taking so long to release is because they're adding much more to this re-release package of elden ring. Implenmenting things they couldn't for the base game and dlc. For example, during the dlc trailer there was a cut miquella cutscene that for me got even more hyped abt the implications for what he could impact in the story, but that was cut. There was voicelines for radahn and rellana but they were cut as well. A boss like rellana could've even get a cutscene, I mean they added it for a bridge and water flowing out of thr shadow keep, Its not so far fetched to say that she deserves one as well for someone who's moving like malenia in the dlc (besides messmer) and not to mention cut quests like kale's which they could add if fromsoft really believes its fitting for the game. Now besides pve additions they could add things to the co op and multi-player experience like am increased player limit, or covenants since there are multiple factions in elden ring i couldn't see it as too outlandish to add. Like could u imagine a 3v3 in the specimen storehouse? (Your allies being from raya lucaria or the golden order fundamentalists or something instead of it just being recusants and bloody fingers vs a poor host and their 2 buddies) I feel a bit bad for console players because theyre missing out on dynamic pvp that you can't recreate in a arena (mind you, you need a mod on pc to even play this in the first place lol)
But anyway I just feel like if the tarnished edition is just 3 armor sets, 3 weapons (2 of which have base game ashes of war tied to it) and a torrent reskin, i feel like itd be such a waste. I'll take the new classes cuz they have a really nice stat spreads but its like "we waited 6+ months for just that?" Miyazaki said the dlc would be the size of limgrave and it obviously wasnt so maybe its their way of trying to undersell the new edition making it seem barebones went it hides so much more.
Don't wanna get my hopes to high but a man can dream.

If they make this as 10$+ dlc for older platforms I'm never buying a game from them again. Ain't paying a $ for 2 new classes and a horse skin lmao
Terraria costs 10$ and it's often at 5$, let that sink in

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

Boss soul bow? (not greatbow, it's different).

if they seriously add in just a single dark souls set/weapon and not dump even a few more i will actually quit this company

                                                                            • Anonymous

Since the armour being added is supposedly all supposed to be Fromsoft throwback armour, let this be my opportunity to PRAY we get Havels set. Since SOTE dropped I’ve mostly been wearing Verdigris to fill the void, but if we got Havels set I’d literally fuse it to my tarnished flesh. Havels drip with the one eyed shield and golems halberd would **** SO hard.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Adding Dark souls stuff into this reeks heavily of MBAs around a boardroom table. Way to cheapen the game, sutis

                                                                                • Anonymous

Pure copium but I'd love to see a couple of the Nightreign boss weapons be added (Libra's staff and Heolstor's greatsword for example), it really bothers me that those aren't available to the player in any capacity.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

An armor set I'd like to have in ER is the Archdrake set from DS2. To bad it probably won' t be added with this update.

I just wonder where we will aquire the new items and content?
Should I refrain from my next playthrough on my character ? I've been waiting for new game+ but is it like SOTE where you have to be to a specific point progress-wise?
