Dragon Heart is a Key Item in Elden Ring. They are dropped from various Dragons across the Lands Between. Dragon Hearts are consumed at the Church of Dragon Communion, Cathedral of Dragon Communion, and Grand Altar of Dragon Communion to obtain Dragon Communion Incantations.
Dragon heart seized by a dragon tracker.
Riddled with Gravel Stone, this grotesque organ continues to beat vivaciously.
An offering used in the Dragon Communion.
Consume a dragon's heart at the altar to make its power yours.
While a terrible and savage-looking thing, the heart has a peculiar beauty to it.

Elden Ring Dragon Heart Notes & Tips
- The player can obtain 23 dragon hearts on NG cycle, however only 20 are required to purchase all Dragon Communion Incantations. In Shadow of the Erdtree, this increases to 29 available hearts and 23 needed to purchase all Dragon Communion incantations.
- Dragon Communion will slowly turn you into one, as such your eyes will reflect this after you purchase 4 Dragon Incantations. If you want to keep these special eyes, you should not obtain the Bloody Finger or be touched by the Three Fingers, as these events will result in overriding the dragon eyes with the eye alterations relating to those events.
- According to the item descriptions of Magma Breath and Magma Wyrm's Scalesword, those who partake Dragon Communion would eventually turn into a Magma Wyrm. However, regardless of the number of hearts the player consumes, the furthest possible transformation the player can undergo is the colour of their eyes.
- Dragon Hearts cannot be sold.

AnonymousSo I got the bloodied eyes first, then the frenzied ones and now want to get the dragon eyes. I have bought the Incantations but it stays at the frenzied eyes. I've read that dragon eyes get overwritten by bloodied eyes and those get overwritten by frenzied. I thought it's just whatever you have currently gets overwritten by the next thing. I'm not able to get these eyes at all if I do Varres and Hyettas quests?

AnonymousIt is believed that the drake warriors became magma wyrm because they ate the pebble scales from the dragon's heart without removing them during the dragon communion ritual.

AnonymousSave your character appearance with red eyes from Varré's quest, save again for the dragon eyes, and save again for the frenzied flame eyes. Now you just need to choose which saved appearance you want to load. Remember to SAVE your appearance right after obtaining some diferent eye style.

AnonymousWould probably take Fromsoft like a day to just implement a toggle in the character editor at Rennala or the Mirror at the Table of Lost Grace that lets you switch between the eye alterations. It's honestly crazy how they added different hairstyles in two different updates, but haven't implemented this. The dragon eyes are the coolest and they take the lowest priority.

AnonymousIf you do the varre thing that bloodshots your eyes and then eat enough dragon hearts for the eye transformation to occur the first time does it still happen?

AnonymousThe 3 little shits west of moonlight altar are giving me a heart attack

Anonymous“However, regardless of the amount of hearts you have consumed, aside from the cosmetic change on your eyes, you do not actually turn into a Magma Wyrm.”
NAHHH I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA TRANSFORM INTO A FING MAGMA WYRM DAWG
AnonymousConsuming the very being of a dragon to gain their abilities/breath? Are we Dovahkin?

AnonymousNo named Dragon shall ever die by my poison arrows! This i swear today and for all eternity!

Anonymous
Anonymousnow that i mulled over it, i'm down for a dragon/wyrm form in the dlc even if it looks like ds3 level garbage (i know that's the point nerds but still) just so the lands between adhere to the will of a bipedal psuedo dragon abomination now and forever

AnonymousOk so this is clearly the bad advice wiki, you can 100% NOT take advantage of higher elevation. The rot breath will indeed hit you.

AnonymousFor anyone who want their lost dragon eyes back, it's not the fastest way, but you can go into ng+.
it removes all alterations, but the dragon communion church has copies of all starting breath spells even if you already have them all, so the eyes can come back with a few hearts spent. That giant dragon Greyoll was an easy way to get the dragon eyes back.
Anonymousi miss demons in these types of games, imagine a dmc type demon form after eating enough demon hearts of something like that

Anonymous
Anonymousconcerning to think these are probably the size of a small boulder as well

Are "Magma Wyrm found inside the Volcano Manor Legacy Dungeon" and the one in the "video link" at the bottom (which is clearly a magma worm in the Volcano Manor Legacy Dungeon) not the same one? If they're not the same, then there are 2 Magma Wyrms in that dungeon. That seems unlikely (although I have not yet been through there myself, so I can't say for sure). If they ARE the same, then there are only 22 hearts listed, but it says you can get 23, so one is missing.

AnonymousDragon heart Stew:
Preheat the oven to 325°F and set a rack in the lower middle position.
Pat the dragon heart dry and season with the salt and pepper. In a large Dutch oven or heavy soup pot, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium-high heat until hot and shimmering. Brown the meat in 3 batches, turning with tongs, for about 5 minutes per batch; add one tablespoon more oil for each batch. (To sear the dragon heart properly, do not crowd the pan and let the meat develop a nice brown crust before turning with tongs.) Transfer the dragon heart to a large plate and set aside.
Add the onions, garlic and balsamic vinegar; cook, stirring with a wooden spoon and scraping the brown bits from bottom of the pan, for about 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook for a minute more. Add the dragon heart with its juices back to the pan and sprinkle with the flour. Stir with wooden spoon until the flour is dissolved, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the wine, beef broth, water, bay leaf, thyme, and sugar. Stir with a wooden spoon to loosen any brown bits from the bottom of the pan and bring to a boil. Cover the pot with a lid, transfer to the preheated oven, and braise for 2 hours.
Remove the pot from the oven and add the carrots and potatoes. Cover and place back in oven for about an hour more, or until the vegetables are cooked, the broth is thickened, and the meat is tender. Fish out the bay leaf and discard, then taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary. Serve the stew warm -- or let it come to room temperature and then store in the refrigerator overnight or until ready to serve. This stew improves in flavor if made at least 1 day ahead. Reheat, covered, over medium heat or in a 350°F oven. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
Note: If you don’t have a Dutch oven or covered pot that is appropriate for the oven, the stew can be cooked on the stove. The timing will be the same and it should be cooked over the lowest setting.
Freezer-Friendly Instructions: The stew can be frozen for up to 3 months. Before serving, defrost the stew in the refrigerator for 24 hours and then reheat on the stovetop over medium-low heat until hot.
Enjoy or dragon heart stew!

AnonymousGod that has to hurt going down its size is probably huge! And look at the rocks on it!

AnonymousWould have been cool if the transformation meant something more other than being merely cosmetic. Like for example giving added arcane incant scaling with the tradeoff being weak to weapons that deal extra damage to dragons.

AnonymousFor those complaining about how you can’t do the bloody finger thing questline without losing the dragon eyes, you can toggle eye effects in Roundtable hold at the mirror in fia’s room or at rennala. Weird that y’all didn’t know that.

AnonymousThe two video links refer to hearts elsewhere in the list. The first referring to Ainsel River is off Glintstone Dragon Adula, and the second is the Magma Wyrm of Volcano Manor

Anonymous"If you want to keep these special eyes you can not obtain the bloody finger or be touched by the three fingers, as these will overwrite the dragon eyes"
how do these game developers get approved for anything besides lobotomies again?
AnonymousIn the dlc they should add a dragon quest line with two choices: Either hunt more dragons for more power, but become a wyrm and get hunted (like scales and stuff idk) or revert the effects of eating the dragon hearts and hunt down dragon communion members for some good gear and armour (you have to hunt all dragons before you start the quest line)

It would be nice if we could undo the eyes like we can frenzy in some way. Being asked not to do Varre's quest is asking a lot.

AnonymousCan you only change your eyes once??? Had dragon eyes then fked it up when I did varres questline. Went to buy the last dragon spell I didnt have yet and eyes didnt change back.

AnonymousI think they should add a wyrm form in dlc, like the transition between still human but becomming even more wyrmlike, also add a frenzued flame fire breath, that would be beautiful ❤️❤️

AnonymousCan I get the dragon eyes even if I did varre's quest first and got the blood eyes?

AnonymousThere should be a merchant that trades you rare stuff for dragon hearts. This way you have a reason to hunt dragons even if you don't need the draconic powers. Now they just collect dust in my inventory

AnonymousI got all of the dragon incantations and still have 4 hearts with a few dragons left to kill. Is there another communion available after Caelid?

AnonymousWonder what the lore implications are for only the neo-dragons and wyrms giving the hearts. The hearts have gravel-stone, a characteristic of the ancient dragons, interestingly enough.

AnonymousThere is Ancient Dragon Lansseax near the abandoned coffin grace on Altus Plateau

AnonymousAre there any positive or negative effects to having the dragon eyes?

AnonymousSMARAG'S GLINTSTONE BREATH has to wrong url attached. It is missing the 't' of glint.

AnonymousThis whole time I assumed Glintstone breath scaled off INT, but its the same as the rest, pretty disappointed!

Anonymous
AnonymousI’m pretty sure there is a Wyrm looking thing at the bottom of Stormveil castle that drops a dragon heart too isn’t there?

AnonymousJust in case anyone is wondering, there's a total of 23 hearts but you only need 20 to get all incantations since the 3 you can get at Limgrave are also available at Caelid.

AnonymousAfter killing every dragon in the game and buying 13/14 rituals i still have 2 hearts left. The final ritual is from the remembrance so it shouldn't cost any hearts
What do i do with them?
Anonymous
AnonymousDon't know when it happened but after a while I lost 10% resistance to lightning and gained 10% to fire

AnonymousCan you only change your eyes once??? Had dragon eyes then fked it up when I did varres questline. Went to buy the last dragon spell I didnt have yet and eyes didnt change back.

AnonymousI swear there's a secret third dragon communion somewhere that hasn't been found yet... that or there will be a new dlc with it in... Really want full dragonification transformation!~

AnonymousDid they for real name one dragon Greyll and another dragon Greyoll
Between this and Godfrey/Godefroy and Malina/Malenia they're just teasing us
AnonymousA quick question about aesthetic effects of using the hearts. Next to the eye change (which has been brought up enough already), does anyone else notice that the characters face changes slightly? Especially the nose, it's now really thin and long and I can't seem to change it even in the rebirth tab, the sliders really don't take effect at all...

AnonymousDoes anyone know if eating too many dragon hearts changes the ending you get in this game? I haven’t traded in for dragon spells because I found an npc that warned about consuming dragon hearts. That you’re doomed to become one or something like that. Was wondering if you end up turning into a dragon at the end, not that I’m opposed to it. I’m just trying to work on age of stars ending.

AnonymousCame here after the sad realisation that my magic only character is now a scaly. Had no idea about the effects of my heart eating hobby, so RIP my human tarnished, she will be missed.

AnonymousThere is a big white Dragon on Altus Plateau, that is not listed here. It disappeared before I could kill it so someone should verify it drops a dragonheart.

AnonymousCame here after I noticed my eyes were dragon like. Not sure if it's the total amount of hearts traded that triggers the change or how many dragon spells you get, but I had fire breath, the decay breath, greyoll's roar, and the magma shot; Didn't notice an eye change till I purchased the magma shot. Also, does anyone find it annoying how a bunch of the wyverns are called dragons along with the actual ancient 6 limb dragons, while the Magma wyrm isn't? He has 6 limbs and isn't a snake dragon, just found it weird with the loose classifications considering the past souls games.

It seems that with every dragon killed you'll have 3 hearts left over once you buy every spell.

AnonymousIt's cool to get the dragon spells, but they are slow and get you killed.

Anonymous
AnonymousHi fellow Dragon Hunters, I have obtained all spells and still left with 3 dragon hearts. I proved that it is possible to have excess hearts

AnonymousThe dragons to the west of Moonlight altar do drop Dragon Hearts (At least one of them did since I only managed to kill one so far)

AnonymousI killed Lansseax earlier but he didn't drop a heart. His page on this wiki also doesn't show him dropping one, so I think it needs to be fixed on this page.

AnonymousAncient Dragon Lansseax did not drop a Dragon Heart for me but instead dropped Lansseax's Glaive Incantation.

Anonymous
AnonymousPretty limited moveset, just avoid the sky dive frost blasts and the AOE blast when he roars in place. ez

AnonymousGreat Wyrm Theodorix, north of Ablinauric Rise in the Mountaintop of the Giants (left side), drops 3 hearts and unlocks the Theodorix's Magma Incantation

I killed almost 10 dragons so far but only only the first 3 spells are showing up at the church, is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Anonymous3 extra glintstone dragons can be found on the moongazing platform (where the cathedral of manus is) there are to the west of the platform. They aren’t bosses but each drop a dragon heart

AnonymousThe dragon near coffin grace, where tf did he go afterward? mf just flew away mid-fight

AnonymousExcept for the 3 glintstone dragons mentioned, there are also 2 additional magmaworms, one located at the bottom of prison town, just past the guest hall site of grace, the other loacted south of the fort past seethewater river site of grace.
The second magma worm mentioned gave me the option of learning magma breath at the Cathedral. Not sure it's him or defeating all 4 of them.
AnonymousYou can get three dragon hearts from three non-boss glintstone dragons located to the west of the Moonlight Alter Grace Site (The precipice area in south west Liurnia where the Cathedral of Manus Celes is and you fight Glintstone Dragon Adula)

Anonymous
AnonymousSome Dragon Incatations I can buy in the Cathedral of Dragon Communion that arent on the list rn (I don't remember how to unlock them though as I finished the game and am trying to unlock everything I can):
Magma Breath (I have found 3 Magma Wyrms overall, the 2 on the list and 1 more in the Volcano Manor area. Probably unlocked by killing one of the 2 on the list)
Borealis's Mist (Unlocked by killing....Borealis I assume)
AnonymousThere is another Magma Wyrm at the Volcano Manor right before the Godskin Boss. Just take the other elevator a bit down and walk into the magma cave. Struggling to get enough magma hearts rn. Pretty sure I unlocked all dragon incantations but rn i am missing 4 hearts. Killed all dragons on the list and at least 1 more

AnonymousWest of moonlight altar is a bunch of dragons. They each drop one heart

AnonymousAre there enough hearts in the game to buy all the skills? So far the page has 13 hearts but 15 hearts worth of skllls.

AnonymousMissing Borealis's Mist (2 hearts) and Magma Breath (1) from the list of dragon spells

AnonymousDoes communing with dragons actually do anything other than change your eyes? I have all the spels now and to be honest, im abit disappointed.

Anonymousthe lightning dragon east of sainted heros grave grace drops a heart i think

Anonymous
AnonymousIf you kill the other glintstone dragons close to cathedral of manus you still get hearts even though they are not bosses

There are two unnamed dragons behind the elevator by the moonlight alter, that's where to get two more hearts if you need two more after doing all the dragons listed here.

AnonymousPSA: You need to use the altar during the daytime to get the spells. If you try to use it at night the animation will play, but the menu will not pop up.

AnonymousAnyway we could get a page on eye alterations? Using 3 of these for dragon incantations change your eyes yellow with a slit and getting the festering body finger will turn your eyes red. Would just appreciate a page to keep track of all things that will change eye color like that.

AnonymousI encountered a bug where, when I summoned a red phantom I received 80,000 souls and 5 dragon hearts.

AnonymousIs there not enough dragon hearts to get all the spells in one playthrough? Ive killed every dragon on the list and am missing two hearts yo be able to get them all.

AnonymousDid anyone else find that their character's eyes went reptilian-looking? I'm assuming it's because I communed with the dragon altar but I cannot confirm

AnonymousGuys if the altar isn't working be sure you killed the dragon on the dragon burnt ruins right beside the place you start the game

AnonymousThere's another heart to get from a magma wyrm in Mt Gelmir which also unlocks Magma Breath Incantation in the dragon communion church

There's a magma wyrm (does not have a boss health bar) in volcanic manor who drops a heart. From Prison tower church, go to the bridge to the left (need to unlock the shortcut first), and then turn right at the end of the bridge. Take 2 lifts down and you'll enter an area where you can fight him.

Anonymous
You can buy Greyoll's Roar at the cathedral for 3 dragon hearts after killing Elder Dragon Grayoll (The huge dragon next to Fort Faroth)

AnonymousWhich spells do you guys think are best I have a couple and I'm undecided

AnonymousSo my character suddenly got gold slitted eyes, kinda like a dragon (they were not that previously). Was this related to me using a whole bunch of hearts?

Anonymous
AnonymousI have the attributes to use dragon power but still cant use em??

AnonymousThe altar won't work for me. The character just raises the hand and puts it back down. No menu pops up. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong?

AnonymousGreyoll kill unlocks the "Greyoll's Road" spell, which costs 3 hearts and 2 spells space. It damages and weakens surrounding ennemies.

Tried to do the save appearance trick, didn't work. Don't trust people on the internet, kids.
