Discus of Light is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Discus of Light spell deals holy damage in a AoE. Updated to Patch 1.07.

One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists.

Produces a ring of light and fires it forwards. The ring of light returns to a position close to the caster before disappearing. This incantation can be cast repeatedly.

A gift from the young Miquella to his father, Radagon.

Elden Ring Discus of Light Guide

  • Golden Order Incantation
  • Also affected by Dryleaf Seal
  • Stamina Cost: 20 [outdated as of 1.07, needs updating]
  • Deals holy damage and 4 stance damage.
  • Note: Significantly buffed in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 9 to 3, cast speed has been increased and the halo is now faster, lasts longer and has more range. In addition, stamina cost has been reduced.
  • The caster can use a spell parry such as Carian Retaliation or Golden Retaliation to deflect a returning discus and proc the effect of the spell parry used.
  • The disc is thrown from the height of the character's face, but for some reason it returns to their thighs, so be wary of low objects and ledges if you're trying to parry it.
  • Casting it will make the player character take a step forward. Some ledges will prevent the caster from over-stepping and falling off. You can use this to guarantee the disc doesn't break on a ledge when you're trying to parry it.
  • On the sending and returning stroke, it passes through enemies and stops upon hitting any obstacle.
  • If it contacts an enemy with a shield, the shield will reduce the damage [Needs testing to determine if it reduces the damage of the disc or the damage taken by the specific enemy, and testing to determine if it's dependent on the shield facing the caster. The phrasing was unclear].
  • Casting it on horseback it lets Torrent trot, giving you more mobility.
  • While not locked on, it exhibits the obnoxious horizontal dead angle aim "assist" (sabotage) many other projectiles have. If the angle you're firing at is mostly horizontal, it'll turn completely horizontal, making it impossible to hit most things horizontally in front of you, rendering free aiming worthless most of the times.

Obviously this is a peak spell. It's also the best tool in the game against Forge Golems if you're farming the Fists. The return will hit their weak point every time and you can spam it from safe distance, just watch out for the projectile fists. Buff your holy damage as much as possible and the shred job you'll inflict on those poor guys is reprehensible. Much more direct and efficient than having them fight each other with crystal darts

I kinda hate this spell. FP efficiency means nothing when the damage is mediocre, the cast time could be better, and it often misses the followup hit or even the first hit since it is so small. Not to mention needing both 13 INT and FAI and not available early game when it would be most useful. Very overrated.

        • Jesus Christ this thing is peak. And it's broken throughout the DLC. Really great for exploring due to its extremely low cost to cast. The range omg, the fact it doubles back through enemies and pierces all enemies.

          • Anonymous

One of the best spells in the game imo, super cheap, good damage, returns so it hits twice and can hit enemies that are shielding in the back for full damage, the range is great, its got a quick cast time. I just wish holy damage wasn't weak against basically all the enemies in the game. It's still my go to spell for trash enemies

            • Anonymous

I played the DLC with a faith/int build. Everything in there being somewhat weak to holy damage minus towards the end made this spell as indispensable to me as my red flasks. The snipe potential is great, damage to FP efficiency is fantastic, low requirements, reasonable access, and unlike sorceries it doesn't get old. I love frisbeeing enemies.

              • Anonymous

I actually love the variety of low requirement spells in this game, This with it beigng able to hit twice and Magic Glintblade having a delay for combos are both super satisfying to land, Night Maiden's Mist when used in the right place and right time is excellent area denial, Rancorcall and Pest Threads are both great long range tracking options, Catch Flame and Carian Slicer are both high damage but relatively cheap "melee" spells, and Swift Glintstone Shard is an excellent "finisher" spell designed for executing low health enemies from a medium distance.

"I have an idea for a really powerful spell that hits twice and pierces enemies, how expensive should we make it"
                  "3 fp maybe"
"Ok, seems reasonable, but how early should it be accessible?"
"No later than when the player has 13 intelligence and 13 faith"
                  "Ok, seems balanced to me"

                  • Anonymous

Stupidly good incant for efficiency, offset by the fact blue flasks exist and how you probably aren't leveling INT on most faith builds.

Nightreign dumps both of those factors into the trash, so it finally gets the exposure it deserves as a PVE godsend.

                    • Anonymous

Cheapest projectile in the game, and it's not even that bad when it comes to damage as it does 1.5x your Incantation Scaling, so a seal with 300 scaling would deal 450 Holy damage prior to Defense and Negation calculations, for only 3 FP is rather amazing. And it can even hit twice, although that would require you to practice using this spell a lot to try and kite people into getting hit, so there is room for expressing skill when using this compared to other simple projectiles such as Swift Glintstone Shard or Bestial Sling. All around a fantastically designed spell.

                      • Anonymous

Combine with Blue Dew Talisman for infinite ammo to wipe up trash mobs and get cheeky hits against slower bosses. The only downside is that holy damage isn't optimal in base game towards the end, but who cares?! Throw more discs if that's an issue

Dogshit spell. Dogshit damage for 3 fp. Dogshit range (less than comet). Dogshit speed. And corny pose. My build - knight of all elements with 80 int + 40 faith + 32 str.

I LOVE DISCUS OF LIGHT!!!! I LOVE CATCHING ENEMIES FROM THE BACK WITH THE FRISBEE REBOUND!!! YESSSSSS!!!!!

Doesn't scare birds away when you kill their neighbour, even when the return collides with a nearby object. 10/10 incantation.

Was excited to get this on my faith/str character but dismayed to see it requires 13 int. That’s 6 levels for me!

I didn't expect this thing to be so good and fun at the same time. Going on an NG+ adventure as a Fundamentalist Paladin and this thing is safely in my #1 Spell slot.
First thing upon metting the enemy? Throw this thing at them, as much as possible.
Probably will become useless towards end-game: the casting time is a bit on the slower side and many enemies have no trouble punishing me for casting it.
Also combos nicely into the triple-disc as they use the same casting animation. Now if only the triple one was as good...

                                  • Anonymous

This is surprisingly overpowered. For just 3 FP, you get long range, two hits on most enemies (one from each side, so at least one avoiding the shield), decent damage (1.5k across the two hits at 80 Faith and with a +10 Erdtree seal), reasonably fast casting time and best of all, the first hit doesn't even aggro the enemies. Honestly, at 20 FP this would almost be worth it, at 3 FP it feels like cheating.

I love how one of the most hilariously bad spells from ds3 turned into this legitimate monster. 3 fp?? This thing can play the game on its own.

                                      • Anonymous

this incant is borderline broken, does more damage than other offensive incants that require ten times the FP cost

                                        • Anonymous

this is still objectively better than multilayered rings since a) it actually chains with triple rings and b) it comes back to you :)

I played the game for about 200 hours before I tested this thing , I regret not giving a shot sooner , it is my fav. incant now.

                                            • Anonymous

If you are dedicated to having high levels of intelligence and faith, then this thing easily becomes S tier. It will probably require a NG+ run to be at its most effective, but give yourself the time to level up faith and int, and this incant will HIGHLY reward you. :)

weird thing. does holy damage, but doesn't stop undead enemies from reviving like holy damage usually does.

Is it true? Did way of white Corona grow up into a good spell? I always knew the little one had it in him.

this little disc of light is freakin goated man. i heard it was good so i picked it up since i only have faith and 13 int for it...and it has a ton of range, it's fast, very cheap (can spam it for days) and hits twice! but most of all, it's a freakin destructo disc!!! this little spell is where it's at for holy mains

                                                    • Anonymous

while I still absolutely love the discus group of spells I cannot figure out why 1.13 removed circlet of light adding damage to these spells... rather than fixing the issues with holy damage not being buffed in PvP. I really hope that was a mistake because my holy frisbees were gonna be great once that got fixed. (they're still good, but FS did not need to do us like that)

One of the strongest spells in the game. Tremendous range; amazing value for cost. You could win the game just by using this.

                                                        • Anonymous

Honestly? One of the best incantations in the game. FP cost is nothing. Hits twice like a boomerang; once forward and once on the way back. Casts fast as hell with some of the most insane range and tracking. It gets boosted by both Golden Order Seal and Dryleaf Seal, Radiant Gold Mask, Sacred Scorpion Charm, Flock's Canvas Talisman, Holy-Shrouding Cracked Tear, Sword of Light, and obviously the more generic damage boosts like Golden Vow, Bloodsucking Cracked Tear, Rakshasa set, Ritual Sword Talisman, etc. You can get it to absurd damage levels really easy without needing to go to NG+ to get a double seals like some other sorceries/incans. It's just all around a fantastic safe primary spam skill for all content.

                                                          • Anonymous

If you build faith you have to get this spell a try. Don't tell me 13 faith is too much. You only need 3 point in it. Renala hat and you are done. Or Godrick Rune. Or using Miquella hat and you only need 2 point of Int to use this spell. Best holy spell and the most cost effective spell and also one of the best range.

                                                            • Anonymous

just did a bit of field testing and even with a shotgun buff setup, this thing rocks. Takes a bit of skill with aiming is all but the potential for trickshots is high.

Has range, low cost, spammability, reasonably low requirements. All-in-all a must have.

                                                              • Anonymous

People talk about the damage and cost but the truly underrated part is this move's range. The enemy could be living in the next county and you still have a reasonably good chance of hitting them. The fact that it outanges basically anything but a Furnace Golem's aggro field or a dragon's breath should not be underestimated.

                                                                • Anonymous

It can completely trivialize the non-boss PvE part of the game; just run Discus with Ancestral Spirit's Horn and Sacrifcial Axe/Sword of Milos and you will never run out of FP.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    unique:

                                                                    +15% Golden Vow
                                                                    +10% Ritual Sword Talisman
                                                                    +9.1% Bloodsucking Cracked Tear

I was able to buff it by 316%. All the buffs apply to the rebound projectile as well. Damage in the thousands for 3 FP

                                                                    • Anonymous

One of the best spells in the game. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the side you fire from depends on which hand you are using to cast it; this is great when you have 2 sources of spell casting and can hit around corners using free aim. Also, this spell is pretty versatile in PVP when you get good at free-aiming and throwing it on the ground near you makes it linger there (causing damage to anyone that touches it) and it comes back to you faster!

                                                                      • this thing is actually insane for its fp cost, there's a boss in the dlc thats weak to holy and this utterly melts it. I was dealing 2k per hit for only 3fp, 4k if the return hits too. Staple of any good faith build, to be honest. Shame that the base game has so many holy resistant bosses...

                                                                        • Anonymous

This is carrying me through the dlc on nearly all non-boss enemies. The boomerang effect becomes a little minigame in and of itself. It’s also come in clutch as a boss-finisher multiple times. Pair this with the new FP regen talisman and you can spam to your heart’s content.

It fires off to the side making aiming difficult, it's slow, and you can't move while casting so it's completely unusable if dudes get in your face.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

The range is better than most sorceries, the damage is great, and the incredibly low FP cost lets you spend your FP on expensive buffs/heals instead.

I didn't even realize he has 80 holy resist. 40 int/faith with Gold Mask, Order Seal, Sacred Scorpion, Ritual Sword, Holy Cracked Tear and Golden Vow for buff. Sacred Order would have stacked too but I don't have it.

It flies perfectly straight, no tracking, so anything that isn’t running right at you will be missed (whereas a glintstone, or even a lightning spear, will hit most things that aren’t specifically dodging). Even that slow strafe to the side mobs do will cause a miss, as well as their normal out of combat walking. You throw it from your left and right sides, so the environment can mess it up. You’re locked into the animation 100% (whereas glinstones still let you slowly move). It’s much longer to cast than any of the basic glinstones, so you will get hit if you try to cast in medium to short range. The damage is technically split into two parts, the cast and return, further discouraging medium to short range use. It definitely has its uses, but a pure caster is likely to be better served by other spells that are more consistent or damaging.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Ok. So everyone's saying that this spell is really good and I want to like it. I did a setup where I bum rushed Altus, grabbed the spell, Goldmask's mask, sacred order and shared order. I've got sacred order on both my weapons, shared order activated, and the mask, and it's still struggling to take out the basic soldiers wandering around Altus. They just poise through it or go around it, come up and hit me, and then the spell takes too long to cast to get it out again and I just have to switch to my melee weapons. I've got a +9 finger seal and minimum stats. Is it because I'm too low level? What am I missing here? This seems like it takes too long to cast to be useful. If it was as fast as glinstone pebble, then it would be good.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

And it returns, adding another 500 for 1000 damage every discus. 1000 damage for 3 go is absolutely ridiculous. This is another example of fromsofts horrible balancing, and this needs a nerf right away.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

If you optimize for damage on a pure caster, you can make it deal absurd amounts for how little it costs using Golden Order Seal, and can even reduce it’s total cast cost to 1 FP per cast. This spell will literally carry you through the whole game if you build around it, and it’s damage can even reasonably stand up against the endgame “Vatican rush” of bosses despite being pure holy. Plus, if you have enough stats to make this guy viable, you can cast Triple Rings and Radagon’s Ring, which are ***h super strong spell options as well.

If int-faith isn’t your cup of tea, get the bare minimum stats to cast it with a crappy seal, then use it in conjunction with Erdtree Greatshield or any medium shield with Carian Retaliation. You can interact with the projectile when it returns to you, so you can either use Carian Retaliation to parry it and get a free phalanx or use Golden Retaliation to launch the holy damage equivalent of a glintstone comet at your foes whenever your heart desires.

This is my favorite incantation by far, and it should be yours. Unbelievably good spell for how unassuming it is.

As Brother Corhyn taught me this incantation, I heard Dean Pelton's voice in my head saying: "This better not awaken anything in me..."

But after Slicer nerf, this thing is better in pve and even pvp. I would know since i respecced from sorceries to incantations.

At 125+ 30 dex for tree spear and you got a weapon with really good damage that can be buffed by orders blade and synergizes well with discus and Tripple rings and you got max cast speed with radagon icon. And tree spear L2 gives 10% spell dmg buff in pve. Identical to having a GO order seal in terms of spell boost.
