Buffs and Debuffs in Elden Ring are categories of Status Effects. This page covers how Buffs and Debuffs stack, the potency of their effects, their FP costs, and their stat requirements.
The tables provided below do not provide an exhaustive list of every status effect in the game, only those that fall into exclusive categories and are prone to being overwritten.
- See Status Effects for all status buildups and other effects applied to your character.
- See Damage Types to identify the best sources and resistances for all damage types.
- See Calculating Damage for in depth information regarding dealing damage.
- See Special Weaknesses for details on types of enemies weak to particular equipment.
- See Crystal Tears for a list of all the potential buffs from the Flask of Wondrous Physick.
- See Fall Damage for related buffs and how falls from survivable heights are calculated.
- See Dodging for information about buffs regarding dodge rolls and i-frames.
Stacking Buffs & Debuffs in Elden Ring
Persistent Buffs, their effects denoted by square borders, can be freely stacked:
Temporary Buffs, denoted by diamond borders, fall into categories, only one of each can be active at a time:
- Armament
- Body
- Aura
- Health Regen
Temporary Variant Buffs can stack with each other unless they provide a similar effect.
Temporary Debuffs fall into categories, only one of each can be active at a time:
- Power Shred
- Destined Death
- Flask Disable
Temporary Unique Buffs & Debuffs can be freely stacked.
Buff & Debuff Order Tips in Elden Ring
Spells require a catalyst to be cast:
The Old Lord's Talisman increases the duration of buff Spells by 30%.
Armament buffs, excluding Skills, require wielding the armament in a certain hand:
Armament buffs are lost when the armament is swapped. Thrusting Shields can have either kind of armament buff.
When dual-wielding, Skills are used from the right-hand armament:
- Shields Skills take priority, regardless of the hand they're held in
- Encourages the use of the Ash of War: No Skill
Buffs & Debuffs often stack multiplicatively (e.g., Red-Feathered Branchsword (+20% Damage) and Exalted Flesh (+20% Physical Damage) would result in +44% Physical Damage).
For buff Skills (such as Golden Vow), the Caestus and the Dagger are immediately usable by all Classes, and have the lowest weight among all weapons. Buffs & Debuffs can be removed with Law of Regression or Needle Piercer.

Armament
Armament Buffs improve the offensive capability of a weapon or shield, often adding attack power, damage negations, or status buildup.
Non-Skill weapon buffs cannot be applied to Somber weapons (Bloodhound's Fang, Varre's Bouquet, and Bonny Butchering Knife excluded) or those with non-physical Affinities.
They also cannot be applied to Ivory Sickle, Crystal Knife, or Serpentbone Blade, despite them being Standard weapons.

Note(s):
- Cured Meats' and White Cured Meats' listed durations are 25 and 15 seconds shorter than their actual durations, respectively, to account for the time it takes for the initial buildup to wear off.
- Ironjar Aromatic supersedes other Body Buffs. After using it, you must wait until the end of its duration to apply another Body Buff.
Aura
Aura Buffs increase the stats of your party, often raising attack power and/or damage negation.

Elden Ring Buffs and Debuffs Notes & Tips
- Effects from differing categories can occasionally share status icons.
- Certain effects have visual priority over others (e.g., Uplifting Aromatic's
Unique Buff shield). - Consumables must be bought, crafted, or found, making Spells and Skills more convenient as they often only require FP.
- Talismans were included on this page only in cases where their effects are uniquely non-stackable/redundant when paired with one of the temporary buffs/debuffs.
AnonymousI wish we had more options for body buffs that buff allies. There is only the Greater Barriers. And there isn't an option to improve an allies Physical defense, you can use Protection of the Erdtree to help resist fire but it won't help much. I wish Black Flames Protection and Flame Protect Me could also be applied to allies such as summons or in coop. Or a body buff that increase allies damage in some way

AnonymousI've always really struggled to see the value in using the weapon buff spells in this game since it usually just feels more practical to use an elemental infusion (relevant to your build ofc) OR a physical infusion with a skill that just gives weapon buff (or using resins for convenience). I've done spellblade-focued runs in DS1 & DS2, so I get the appeal but am I missing something here, or are they actually just not that good?

AnonymousThats why I main stormhawk deenh. She's perfect for Str builds who don't want to dabble too much in buffs. She's hard to kill off too so she generally survived most boss fights and can even pull aggro without taking damage. Plus she applies her buff on summon and also throughout battle. I love her so much <3

AnonymousI hope the next Souls game (that isn't exclusive to a currently lackluster console, The Duskbloods...) has longer lasting, powerful iconic buffs that would be like Darkmoon Blade or Power Within of Dark Souls 1, but with heavy restrictions to where you could only realistically have at maximum 2 buffs applied at a time. Weapon Buff, Body Buff, that's it. Condense all the Body, Aura, Regen, Stamina, and "Unique" effects into a single buff slot, and juice the hell out of all of them to make you really have to think about which one you want to be using in that slot. If you want to use the Rage buff for a crazy damage boost, you have to pick it over the Regeneration spell that heals stupid amounts of health over time, or the Fortification spell that grants you crazy amounts of damage negation, or the Vitalization spell that grants higher equip load and crazy stamina regeneration, etc. No more sextuple buff stacking, you get TWO really good buffs, and that's it.

AnonymousI feel like defensive buffs are more powerful than offensive buffs. Good armor (Solitude, Bull-Goat, Verdigris) + Opaline Hardtear + Boiled Crab + Dragoncrest Greatshield is insane even in NG+ cycles.

AnonymousSubstitute for Golden Vow and FMGS, if you don't mind you take more damage:
Aura Buff:
Stormhawk Deenh
Physical Damage +20%
Stamina Damage +20%
Poise Damage +20%
Compared to Golden Vow's it is 15% dmg and +10% negation with 20 extra seconds.
Bloodboil Aromantic lasts for 30 seconds more than FMGS or Exalted Flesh, but it's harder to craft.
Results in: +40%/+35% Physical Dmg, -25% Dmg Absorption (Git Gud), which is pretty broken.
AnonymousThere really should have been like a "giantsflame armament" that buffed your weapon with fire damage equal to 0.75x your incant scaling with no bleed or arcane, just pure faith

AnonymousThere's something slightly wrong with this. The maximum health reduction effects of Incantations, Black Blade and Destined Death stack, meaning they reduce the enemy's maximum health by 20%.However, Destined Death and Blade of Death do not stack. In summary, the 'UNIQUE' category should include 'Black Blade', not 'Blade of Death'.

Fixed link to Lulling Branch page. And just killed Bayle with this buff lol.

Anonymouscan you stack Flame Grant Me Strength, Golden Vow, And Protection of the Erdtrer Together? I was just honestly confused and im trying to do a Strength/Faith Build using the big hammer you get from Gurranq

AnonymousSave yourself all that damage: Acid Spraymist/Greyoll's Roar/BlackFlame's Protection. (Ritual Shield Talisman/Blessing of the erdtree/Commander's Standard Ash). You're Welcome. God Bless.

Anonymous
AnonymousI usually use heal incantations like heal from afar instead of crimson flasks for 2 reasons: 1-it can be a lot more efficient if you use blue flasks to heal fp. 2-they don't get nerfed by black flame protection and malenia's great rune don't nerf it

AnonymousCan someone help me? There is a sheet about Weapon Buff MV, with values for each weapon and moveset. But why it feels like some weapon buffs does not exactly follow that? Like, applying Fire Grease or using War Cry works effectively different. Then, there is also Dragon Wound Grease... I understand it might have to do flat/% damage, but I noticed Bloodflame Blade also works differently, so i'm confused.

AnonymousWait, so is Flame, Grant Me Strength a body buff, or a stamina regen buff?
Will it cancel both Boiled Crab and Greenburst Crystal Tear?
AnonymousAll the noobism is too much...if you rely on buffs you suck plain and simple

Anonymousdaily reminder that endure and oath of vengence endure can stack!

AnonymousWhy is some moron putting permanent buffs that can stack from armor or talismans in the table of temporary buffs that can't stack? Are they stupid?

AnonymousWhy tf is there no fire weapon spell?
We could've had something like: "Giantsflame Bless my Blade!" or "Gelmir's Blade" or "Messmerfire Weapon"
Give us something From wtf. Bloodflame Blade ain't it.
Anonymous"[insert thing name] is OVERPOWERED in Elden Ring!!!"
*looks inside*
Uses only damage boosting talismans, charged attack tear + elemental, twinbird kite shield, golden vow, howl, black dumpling, madding hand, aged one's exultation, lord of blood's exultation, white mask, seppuku etc. God, I really wish that one day people would stop judging how strong things are in this game based on if they can completely eviscerate bosses while with 20 buffs stacked or not. I'm already sick of it.
AnonymousRemove roped greases from your next game fromsoft, I beg you. You will never see pvpers use them because there are like 20 variants of roped greases in the game after dlc and you can hold 30 of each, and craft them on top of that during invasions. Seeing your average pvper popping those free elemental damage buffs like candies every 5 seconds is just annoying. There is literally no reason why normal greases should exist at this point, not only they aren't used by anyone in pvp but we also don't need them in pve as we have million weapon buffs that don't require grinding materials.

AnonymousDragon forms from DLC would be so much hype if we already didn't have stackable buffs that give you astronomical damage boost (golden vow, howl, elemental tears etc). They are essentially semi-useless roleplay items. I love elden ring but I've genuinely grown so bored of buff stacking.

AnonymousDoes Greenburst crystal tear stamina regen not stack with flame grant me strength stamina regen? Or does flame grant me strength count solely as a body buff?

AnonymousThe dragon and priest hearts are not body buffs? I thought they were

AnonymousDunno who's done it, but this page now is missinforming about what buffs are counted as "Temporary".
For example, the Icon shield and Royal Remains buffs are NOT temporary. Provided you meet their requirements (In hand for the Shield, lower than 18%HP for royal remains), you get the buff, for as long as you meet those requirements. These also do NOT override the actual temporary buffs like Blessings Boon.
AnonymousGetting summoned be like: Golden Vow+Blessing of the Erdtree+Boiled Crab+Fire Grease (Host casts Law of Regression)

AnonymousThis is one of the most overwhelmingly horrendous games at explaining anything about anything in the game. You know it's a shitty game when the only positive aspect is that it's a souls game.

AnonymousIf 2 things drop an enemies defence, does it stack? Theres a weapon i just got from the spectral moose in nokrok, it's L2 lowers enemies defence. I was thinking of using that with the dragon roar incantation that also lowers defence

AnonymousWhat does multiplicative stacking mean? I get that buffs are increased when you stack them, but where does it come from

Anonymous
IMO all somber weapons with pure physical damage that do only have STR and DEX scalings should be buffable, literally the strongest weapon in this cathegory (somber pure physical and only STR/DEX scalings) is already buffable, the Bloodhound's Step, there is NO reason for others not to be too lol.

Anonymous
AnonymousLeast theoretical damage negation possible:
Naked (except the helm)
Level 2 Wretch (1 extra faith point. I’ll explain later)
Talismans:
Daedicar’s Woe (100%)
Talisman of All Crucibles (45%)
Beloved Stardust (30%)
Any scorpion charm (12%/20% in PVP)
Incarnations:
Howl of Shabriri (30%)
Crystal Tear:
Windy Crystal Tear (15%)
Skills:
Soul Stifler (15%. Requires 2nd player)
Armor:
Any scarab helm (5%-6% rounding)
Other:
Frostbite (20%)
To use Howl of Shabriri, have one faith point as it doesn’t increase holy resistance, then equip Marika’s Soreseal (+5 Faith), Two Fingers Heirloom (+5), drink physic with Faith Knot Crystal Tear(+10), and equip Corpse Head. Cast Howl of Shabriri, unequip all your faith-boosting stuff, then rest at a grace. It’ll keep the debuffs but remove the extra faith.
Now if we assume it stacks additively, it should give us -390% damage negation. I would like it if someone checked the sum as I’m pretty bad at math.

Anonymousbuffs are kinda like summnons, an optional easy mode. its fine if u wanna use it but just know u didnt really beat the game

AnonymousIs law of causality a buff or does it count as an attacking spell

AnonymousThis game really is a buff fest. People expect hypermode buffing like golden vow + flame grant me strength and other stuff has to carry them through the game with no issues and they get upset when bosses still prove to be challenging and don't die first try. I forgot the last time I've seen someone playing the game normally outside of cinematic boss kills on YT. It's a shame really because a game design like this gaslights some people into thinking you can beat the game only by abusing broken builds, tons of buffs and it's impossible otherwise.

AnonymousAnyone else getting random silver fowl foot buffs? what's that about? As far as I can tell, it happens in certain areas at night when golden leaves are falling more often.

AnonymousThere is no good reason for some weapons in this game to be unbuffable. Every non somber weapon should be buffable, even when infused. Hell, more somber weapons should be buffable, it would make the game a lot more interesting. Also the fact that we don't have a straightup fire damage weapon buff that scales off of faith is criminal, coulda been a new Messmer fire incant but NOOOOOO

Anonymous
AnonymousBuffing in games that aren't turn-based has to be the most annoying thing ever. I can barely muster enough energy to drink the physick.

Anonymousisn't the dragon priestess spell an aura buff? why it isn't on the table yet?

AnonymousI’ve played the entirety of this game five times over and now I’m finally discovering buffs exist…

AnonymousFingerprint nostrum is a body buff. Does not stack with crab or exalted flesh.

AnonymousWish there was a reusable item that gave you a regen buff, like a crappy Bestial Vitality for players who don't want to use a Seal. Warming stones are kinda that, but not mobile.

Shriek of Milos, Soul Stifler, Flower Dragonbolt, Rennala's Full Moon and Ranni's Dark Moon still applying PVP's values of their debuffs in PVE at patch 1.16

AnonymousTerra Magica hasn't been updated for the nerf to 22.5% on this page yet.

AnonymousDebuffs with different values for PVE and PVE are still bugged (using PVP values in PVE) in patch 1.15

AnonymousGolden vore, blessing of the Erdtree, flame grant me strength and boiled crab, do they stack?

AnonymousVery nice overview,
But could you add the equipment & weapons to the stackable section ?
It does mention up there that they can be freely be stacked but it would be nice to be able to see the items listed
(such as the white mask & LoBe talisman for blood buffs +their poison/ madness equivelents etc)
AnonymousI wanna a tear to let me earn at least 20% more runes for 30 secs that could stack with golden hen feet and golden skarab.

Anonymous
Anonymous
Anonymouswhat about equipment with passives? black dumpling (+10% attack for 60 seconds after madness in the area), mushroom crown (+10% . 20 seconds) white mask (+10% . 20 seconds)
can these be categorised?
Anonymoushow do i debuff myself. the red debuff effect would fit my fashion perfectly

AnonymousY’all need to add the better version of the pickled turtle neck to stamina

AnonymousI came to this page to remind myself EXACTLY what all the different types of buff are, and the page says "Weapon, Shield, Body, Aura, etc..." - Is that all of them or not???

AnonymousStill bugged (currently patch 1.13.2) since patch 1.12.3: all power shred debuffs that have different values for PVE and PVP are using PVP values even in PVE.

Anonymousright, florissax's dragon bolf doesn't scale right? with the golden vote?

Anonymouscan a cooperator overwrite my buffs? for example if i use last rites, then a summon uses golden vow will my original buff be overwritten by the cooperator's?

AnonymousHonestly they should make buffs last longer, I like buff that last 20 seconds, whhile boss is just flailing mass of hitboxes for the first 18 minutes of bossfight before I can even hit once

AnonymousI hope we get a FromSoft game where buffs last longer and don't stack as crazy as they do now. The way bosses are right now it's nearly impossible to reapply more than one buff during a fight (AoW ones work best for this). So the only real use case is stacking a ton of them and dealing insane damage in the first seconds, trivializing the fight.

AnonymousSword of light 20% holy damage buff fir 60 seconds is a body buff.

AnonymousBraggart's Roar Ash of War weapon buff is missing, Adds 10% Physical Attack, Damage Negation +10% for all types and Stamina Recovery Speed +10/s (20%) lasts for 60 seconds

AnonymousI was looking to see if I could find the relation between frostbite and the power shred debuff. Frostbite causes 20% loss of defense. If I used Greyoll's Roar, for example, would this stack multiplicatively or additively? (Basically, would the total debuff be 22% or 30%?)

AnonymousThe dlc buffs should be added whenever possible. I wanna know if a I die or you die build with rakshasa set and bloodsuck tear would work properly

AnonymousAs of patch 1.12, Terra Magica has been decreased from a 35% buff (1.35) to a 22.5% buff (1.225). This is reflected in the Terra Magica page, however not this page, Buffs and Debuffs | Elden Ring Wiki.

AnonymousSacred Order (AOW, 10% damage, 60sec duration) should be under unique. It seems to stack with everything.

AnonymousWhy flame, grant me strength isn't listed on the stamina buffs? It don't seem to stack with them so I think it should be there

Anonymous
AnonymousAre consumable items separate from body buffs? For example, can I use a boiled crab and cast Bestial Vitality at the same time?

AnonymousI dunno if anyone's gonna fix this error, but for Shriek of Milos, it doesn't give a 15% negation debuff, it's only 5%, even in PvE. I think whoever tested this forgot to account for the fact that the buff also gives 7.5% attack and more scaling, making it appear like it's a 15% damage increase when only some of that is the debuff

AnonymousIf I use boiled crab, golden vow,Oath of vengeance, and opaline hardtear. I will have 90% damage Negation. I think it will let me invincible.

AnonymousTf is “ etc...” in the list of temporary buffs supposed mean??

AnonymousHere’s an absurd combination of buff stacking. Put Braggart’s Roar on a blood infused Venomous Fang. Have the Thorny Cracked Tear as one of your wonderous physick buffs and the Faith Knot is a good second option if you want to keep your faith down to 15. Buff with the Golden Vow incantation, then Flame Grant Me Strength. Have the Lord of Blood’s Exultation and Kindred of Rot Exultation equipped along with Millicent’s Prosthesis and the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia. With all of these buffs going you can get a 3.62x multiplayer on all your physical damage

AnonymousI'm going to say it. There are way too many buffs. Why is half of the damage and defense in this game from utility and not stats like weapon scaling and heavier armor negations? Considering almost all the buffs are from consumables or low requirement spells it just feels bad. Practically any build can either mukbang or spend at most a few dozen level points into stat requirements and Mind and all of a sudden the new "optimal play-style" is sitting back for 15 seconds spamming buffs.
Don't get me wrong I think buffs can be really cool, but become tedious as hell when there are too many. Sure you don't "have to" use a bunch of buffs, but the numerical difference is wider than the stomach of someone who just consumed half of the crafting pouch menu.
Also, doing almost a full 180 here, but why does the Flask of Wondrous Physick have so many Tears that DON'T stack with other buffs? It's supposed to be it's own unique and limited buff. It just feels really limiting which sucks since in my personal opinion it is one of the more fair and least tedious forms of buffs.
I love FromSoft's games, but they aren't nearly as good when it comes to player stats as they are with everything else that they do.
AnonymousIt starts at demons souls, now looks like that episode of overlord where Ainz fight the vampire girl.

AnonymousGigahost grindset:
1. buff yourself with flame, grant me strength (it has the lowest duration so that comes first)
2. next up switch to your golden vow dagger (you'll need this to fat roll)
3. always forget to use your wondrous physick (this is important for later)
4. fgms should have expired by this point, but overwrite it with something useless like black flame's protection for good measuee
5. walk into the arena and try to drink your wondrous physick (buff charge attack and buff consecutive attack for maximum nonsense) which you forgot earlier
6. immediately die during the drinking animation
7. respawn, summon someone else to annoy
Anonymoususeless outside of gimmick builds. all that time ur wasting re-applying flame grant me strength could be used on building up the stance bar on the boss. buffs only exist to make people with mid builds think they're doing good damage

AnonymousAnyone know if stormhawk deenh will stack with roar talisman ?

AnonymousUplifting Aromatic's page says it lasts 40 seconds, but this page says 60 seconds.

AnonymousIf I have a weapon that causes bleeding plus use sepuku and blood grease, does it all stack

AnonymousWhat about seppuku, or the similar madness and poison ones where you dmg yourself and get buffed? It’s a key part of the one shot builds but mentioned nowhere on this page.

AnonymousI’m ignorant but monk hammer grants you a buff to your attack. Shouldn’t it be here in this section?

AnonymousJust tried it and unfortunately Cleanrot Knight Finlay's buff is both a regen buff and a body buff, and therefore does not stack with other of its type (blessing of the erdtree will cancel the healing part of the ashes buff).

AnonymousShouldn’t turtle shell shield be included in stamina regen?

AnonymousRitual shield talisman effect at full health appears to count as a body buff. Can someone else please confirm?

Anonymousritual shield talisman buff at full health counts as a body buff. Will test to see if same is true for blue feathered branch sword.

AnonymousComet azur buff routine for max dmg (without debuffs)
1. Howl of shabriri (25%) 40 secs
2. Commanders standard (20%) 30 secs
3. White mask, lord of bloods exaltation + seppuku to about 25% hp (30%) 20 secs
4. Mushroom crown, kindred of rots exultation + raw meat dumpling (30%) 20 secs
5. Unequip all items exept staff, jellyfish shield, azurs glintstone crown (15%), and talismans
6. Contagious fury (20%) 30 secs
7. Terra magica (35%) 30 secs
8. Graven-school talisman (4%), graven-mass talisman (8%), magic scorpion charm (10%), red feathered branch sword (20%)
9. Physic flask (Cerulean hidden tear [Infinite FP] 15 secs, magic shrowding cracked tear [15%] 180 secs)
Total of about a 805% dmg buff
(Specifically a 805.22951446% buff)
Anonymousso if im not mistaken, i should be able to power stance 2 weapons with braggart roar on one and endure on the other and neither should cancel?

AnonymousSpell weapon buffs aren't very good without the raw infusion, unless you like double dipping into multiple stats

Anonymous
AnonymousIt mentions that Sacred Order stops Skeletons from reviving, but doesn't say it on Sacred Blade. But I assure you that not only will the projectile not let them revive if it kills, but they also will not revive if killed while your weapon is still buffed from the AoW either.
