Blade of Calling is a Dagger in Elden Ring. The Blade of Calling scales with Faith, Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for short range melee combat with additional holy damage.
Dagger given to one who set out on a journey to fulfill her duty long ago.
The power of its former owner, the kindling maiden, is still apparent.
The one who walks alongside flame,
Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death.

AnonymousBetter than black knife because crowd control beats 10% chip damage.

AnonymousThis weapon is like cool to hold in your hand as a neat little souvenir, but as a main weapon it's pretty damn terrible.

AnonymousMight not be able to inflict destined death, but it's very capable of insta kills. You see, the weapon skill knocks enemies back, and there is A LOT of cliffs in this game.

Anonymous"Some in the community speculate that the Black Knife is the Blade of Calling imbued with the power of Destined Death."
The design of both weapons disproves that. While the misshapen blade of the Black Knife could theoretically be some sort of corruptive byproduct from the imbuing of the Rune of Death, the hilt and the pommel clearly retain its original design and it looks nothing like that of the Blade of Calling. The pommel in particular fits the ornamental style you can see all over the Eternal Cities, and the dark metallic texture fits Nox weapons such as the Nox Flowing Hammer and the sword, which makes sense as that's where the assassins are confirmed to originate from.
It's obvious that's where the Black Knives were forged, whereas Blade of Calling has some other, unclear origin, judging by the substantially lighter hue of its metal and absolutely nothing (item description, placement, owner, etc) linking it to the underground cities.
AnonymousUsing this paired with the black knife in my faith build as slash options, very cool. I have both ying & yang now

Anonymous
AnonymousI had no idea that you could summon Pollyanna to the O'Neil fight wtf?

The skill does more damage than I expected. Perfect for my finger maiden build

Anonymousit's prettier than the black knife though. I don't play to win, I play to look good

AnonymousCompletely obliterates annoying curseblade enemies with AOW spam. Also this works on almost any npc or human-sized enemies.

AnonymousCompletely obsolete cause the black knife & halo scythe exist. It's not a bad weapon, but it's worse than those two.

AnonymousI have had a sneaking suspicion that the Reduvia is just a corrupted Blade of Calling. From the skill to just the moveset.

Anonymous
AnonymousBoth are just weapon skill spam, what's the argument about? Pathetic.

AnonymousThe Black Knife is GOATED but people need to put some respect on The Blade of Calling’s name. At 75 Faith and 45 Dex and Str Blade of Gold hits like a truck.

"This deals 0.007 less damage than black knife, it's absolute trash, why would anyone ever use it"

AnonymousI would like to think that if the tarnished is a faith dex build, they would use this dagger after Melina burns the erdtree because it is the one comforting memory of a friend that aids them beyond the erdtree burning, whether used in battle or to look back at the memories formed through the journey

Anonymous
AnonymousImagine living in a small study room right in front of a giant elevator without being able to even call it, lol

AnonymousThe words Kindling Maiden makes me assume that whoever wields this serves the Kindling Flame or maybe have the ability to use it, which in this case is the same flame that Mesmer possesses. Just like how the Finger Maiden's serve the Two Fingers and aid the Tarnished. Each site of grace is a spec and aura of the Erdtree, something that is attached Melina "burned and bodiless" yet lives makes me assume that Melina is the Kindling Flame, how else could she channel the lingering power of the Kindling Maiden in the blade. "The one who walks alongside flame, Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death." To what I assume that the flame this weapon talks about is anyone who is compelled by the "Flames of Ambition" and whoever has this will ultimately meet their end. I think Melina was not supposed to have this weapon hence why after beating Morgott you see she cast this away in a tower.

Anonymousdoes anybody know why this weapon is just in a random room? any lore masters?

AnonymousI sought this weapon out of curiosity to supplement my int/fth SoNaF build.
I've found it to be an absolutely wonderful addition to my tool kit. Particularly against Messmer Fire Knights, which knocks then down repeatedly and places their cheese right back on them.
The discussion around this weapon is weird. Ever since the game came out, people were acting like it knocking down some enemies, largely ones that are not significant enough threats to warrant needing knocking down or capable of chasing you down if you just use the Black Knife's AoW instead, made it a viable sidegrade. It did not and still doesn't. You'd think that the DLC coming out with it's big beefy boss HP pools would settle the argument, but no. You are ALLOWED to like a weapon due to it's lore or aesthetic, but objectively speaking, Black Knife is better and has been for a while.

AnonymousSomeone should probably FP cost since it was changed from 20 to 17 at some point (not listed in the patch notes).

Anonymous
Forget the Black Knife for a second, why is a Sacred Ersteel Dagger with Sacred Blade just a better version of this? It just makes no sense to me why such a cool looking weapon with a more cinematic skill has to be so mid in comparison, does less damage across the board, no buffs or infusions allowed, it's just unarguably a downgrade.

Anonymousthis ones ash of war hits harder than blade of death if you dont count the stinky debuff

AnonymousFrom design: worse in every way weapon that you somehow manage to get later. Dislike this comment and run from the truth.

AnonymousDoes this weapon ****ing suck? Yes. Should you care? **** no, it's cool and you should use what's fun for you. Don't listen to the ****ing losers whining about it being bad and that you shouldn't use it because Moonveil or some other broken-ass wepaon exists. Use whatever you want.

AnonymousAt least it does more physical damage than holy. A tad pro, but still a pro.

Anonymous
Anonymousyou people are playing an ordinary simple elden ring and you still say that something doesn't work

AnonymousWhen she burns herself, I like yo use this weapon.
I know it's terrible and there a way better daggers or holy weapons but from an lore/insert perspective, it's a way to remember Melina, so I like to use it in the endgame (yes, everyone destroys my ass because holy damage sucks)
AnonymousThe knockdown on the skill has trivialized alot of larger enemies for me. Omen beware! I love this little knife. Running a Banished Knight build currently with dual BK Greatswords and this little number. Alexander Talisman with Carian Filigree lets me perform many shenanigans.

AnonymousDudes whining and moaning about it being optimal. How about you optimize some h0es and use whatever weapon is fun for you.

Anonymous
Anonymous“The power of its former owner, the kindling maiden, is still apparent” Apparently not enough, it sucks

AnonymousIt’s not worse then black knife in every way, it has better faith scaling…..that’s about it

AnonymousIt can’t be argued anything superior about this dagger since black knife exists and sacred blade outperforms it. One of the coolest out there but it’s a shame it’s not great

AnonymousAccording to the description I would think Blade of Culling would be a more appropriate name. Anyone know what its called in Japanese?

AnonymousMarika's dagger she gave to Melina to help her fulfill her duty as kindling maiden. Marika was from a royal Eternal family, and her siblings, now the Black Knife Assassins, carries similar blades deformed by the rune of death.

AnonymousIt falls short of the Black Knife in every case, yes. However, I found that just due to the similarities and only barely falling short this is a great dagger if you're looking for something to power stance WITH the Black Knife. After playing around with some red and gold armor I've come up with a sort of yin-yang build, because I think the similar weapon skills lend themselves to a character who has decided to wield two opposing forces in a unique and powerful way. Don't skip out on this just because the Black Knife beats it, work them in tandem with one another. The lore implications are to cool to pass up this weapon.

AnonymousOk but why tf does the Melina summon in the morgott fight go so ****ing wild with this thing. Like she has black knife AI on hypersteroids.

AnonymousOnly advantage this has over black knife is you can knock someone off a ledge with this in pvp which is great for a laugh.

AnonymousIf I could, then I would, I'd go wherever you will goooooo.....

AnonymousIv never seen anyone with this sword and iv never found it no matter how many times iv played through the game

AnonymousUnfortunately even on 80 faith and 13 dex it still falls slightly behind the black knife in ar despite the higher faith scaling. The ash of war on the black knife is more useful in boss fights although blade of gold can knockback some enemies which could sometimes be useful. Really think this should have higher ar on a pure faith build though.

Anonymous
Anonymousblack knife is still superior due the sheer AR of its skill and higher scaling

AnonymousMelina's moves when using the dagger shows there was a missed opportunity, the ash of war could have been like a stance to do similar things, it would have been cool to have something like the aquamarine dagger from ds3.

AnonymousNo matter what amount of Dex or Faith you have Black Knife is better. Even at abysmally low dex and high faith Black Knife still has more AR and the faith boosts its weapon ash. There is literally NO reason to use Blade of Calling. Some people say that the stagger potential of Calling's ash, Blade of Gold is worth it but not really when you consider that in PvP the long windup means that even if you time it right the enemy will still have time to roll out of it and the stagger won't usually last long enough at the distance you would use it at to normally anyway. Factor in that Black Knife's Blade of Death ash can proc through rolls and Blade of Calling and its ash are just horrible. I honestly feel like so many weapons have bugged or simply imbalanced scaling.

AnonymousWas'nt Blade of Gold reduce to 17 FP a few patches ago.
Yep 17 whit no gear to reduce it.
The actual problem with this weapon is that it's outclassed by the counter part (Black Knife) in pretty much everything. Even if going pure faith, Black Knife's AR is higher, and the ash of war Blade of Death status goes over the i-frames, giving black knife another advantage in from of the Blade of Calling

Anonymousfor pvp, the weapon skill has a lot of knockback, and can easily smack people off cliffs

AnonymousI wish you could do some cool flips and stuff with this like how melina does during the morgott fight

AnonymousWhere is Pollyanna's gold sigil to summon her for commander O'Neil? I don't remember seeing one for that fight.

AnonymousI've just beaten Maliketh but his remembrance gives access to a sword which has a weapon art doing holy damage and I think the black blade incantation is holy damage as well. So does anyone have opinions on this? Everyone says holy damage is almost useless for late game areas and the enemies or bosses in them. So what is the point of using that remembrance for a weapon or incantation that does holy damage and wont do me much good anyway?

AnonymousThe problem with this weapon is the very low base holy damage(for a dagger and all the cons of daggers as a whole) barely breaking triple digits at 105 at +10 which undermines it's high B scaling yet they gave it 173 physical with a quality-esque D/C in str/dex on top of being found in a late game area(where by that point in the game holy damage is almost useless).
The weapon art however is amazing on a pure faith build but outside said weapon art it leaves a lot to be desired as a 'weapon' weapon.
AnonymousFirst off, daggers/claws are my favourite class. But I still gotta say they need a buff (Daggers I mean), but lets first talk about Blade of Calling.
Best looking dagger, nice looking ability, nice damage at low levels, interesting lore behind it, knockback, costs less than black knife's ash of war and weighs less, lower requirement.
Worse than black knife because it purely deals holy damage and holy damage needs some sort of buff cause it's beyond useless in the end game.
Overall daggers need higher riposte damage. Usually an ash of war will hit for harder than actually parrying a boss and doing a riposte, same goes for backstabs. This should not apply to PvP because I do not want daggers to be able to one shot in every build.
Daggers could also need several ash of wars that allows them to open up enemies to critical hits such as Black Knife Assassins do when grabbing you, allowing you to use critical hits to your advantage. Which would further make people use critical talismans more than it's made now, allowing for a more stealthy approach/tactical approach to try to get as many critical hits in so you can use your abilities.
I know sidestep exists, but sidestep wont help me open up Maliketh for a critical attack.
Also daggers gotta stop doing several hits do none existant damage on first hits. If you're going to put in a dual wielded daggers do several hit animation, every hit should count as towards higher damage. If that doesn't work in the game it should be redesigned because I'm not gonna risk dying for doing 90 % less damage when I can just do a light attack and do pretty much the same damage.
As of right now Scimitars beats daggers in DPS which is not okay when daggers have less range and fewer customizability options in terms of ash of wars.
Daggers should be DPS king in the right hands and should be a hard weapon to use since you need to close the gap between you and the opponent but once you're in close range they should fear you.
Scimitars deals faster damage because they actually hit faster dual wielded than daggers do dual wielded (Because of the stupid dagger dual wielded animation) in terms of damage per hit, they have more range so they can get to targets faster AND their jump attack is ridiculously op with bleed.
Lastly two heavy attack animations is not always a good idea. This can be seen in an example below. While daggers actually is good at this, it shouldn't apply to the horse since it is practically useless in MOST scenarios.
Example of why having two attack heavies is not a good idea: On horse back if you're using a scimitar for example and charging a heavy attack you can't even hit a still standing scarab cause as soon as your 14 damage first hit comes in your next actual damage hit will miss cause the scarab will get stunned and will automatically be moved to the side. This renders heavy attacks useless on horseback and promotes light attack spam instead.
This can be tested near Agheel Lake North to the east on a scarab near a bridge as a Warrior.
Feel free to disagree or agree :)
AnonymousGuys you all are missing the point of this...this is for builds that want to use a dagger with high faith but no big dex investment. Of course the black knife is better with dex combo. Stop going to lvl 150 where you can get everything without sacrifice and stay at 125 where you actually have to make choices that make things more viable.

AnonymousNeeds a big buff. Despite the high faith scaling, it damage after 50 faith drops hard.

AnonymousIf Melina was/is the Gloam-eyed Queen then maybe the Blade of Calling was imbued with Destined Death before it was taken from her by Maliketh. After Destined Death was stolen from Maliketh, maybe the Black Knives were forged in the same fashion as the Blade of Calling because there is something particular about the shape of the blade that allows them to more stably be imbued with Destined Death and that is why they are similarly shaped even though the Black Knife description labels their shape as ‘odd’?

AnonymousI believe melina was a black knife assassin. The blade of calling is just a holy version of the black knife, and if I remember right (its been a while since i fought morgott) she moves like a black knife assassin. And she uses torrent Also ranni knows torrent because she talks about him a few times with you. ranni also led the black knives which means she probably knew torrents former master (melina). So Melina probably wanted to put her black knife assassin past behind her and became the nice, dagger wielding, maiden we know and love.

AnonymousSo, the blade of calling is Melina's weapon, and it's found in the magisterial offices (as evidenced by the official's robe found outside the room.) The official's robe is also identical to the robes of House Marais, a family of executioners. Melina's body was burned, and that's why she lost her memory. Her body was burned by the House Marais, although it's unsure if they were acting on behalf of Melania, independently, or on behalf of the city of Lyndel. Any of those seem possible, since it was Melina's purpose to burn the Erdtree. I suspect she was burned to stop her, maybe thinking that burning her was the only way to fulfill her destiny of death by fire, without actually burning the tree.

AnonymousDo not be mistaken, this isn't a dagger. It's Miyazaki wanting to put a glock into the game but his team telling him it would break the immersion, so turned it into this instead. Absolutely unbelievable as a sidearm on full faith builds. I found myself using this more often than incantations just because it hits that hard. Very good stagger too.

Awesome weapon art. I wish daggers weren't such a hassle. I hate missing a gigantic boss because it moved two centimeters away from me.

I got 3720 damage with Blade of Calling and "only" 3212 with Black Knife, same buffs.................so I would say this one is better.
Buffs : Holy-shrouding tear + Howl of Shabriri + Commander's Standard
AnonymousGonna try powerstancing Black Knife and this for a Ciaran cosplay.

Okay so I started using this wepaon and when I use the skill my attack power for all other weapons gets a +10

AnonymousAs far as poise breaking is Flames of The Redmanes still better?

AnonymousBlack Knife has higher AR, identical WA with better effect, while only weights 0.5 more. Oh, and did I mention you can get Black Knife WAY earlier?
Buff this thing more, From.
AnonymousThe connections between Melina and Ranni are too much to ignore, can't wait for the lore to be fully analysed once we have DLC

AnonymousNeeds to be buffed, cause there isnt much reason to pick it over Black Knife.
The weapons are nearly identical in their moveset and Skill, but BK has a better effect overall, and more dmg.
Anonymousis there a possibility this is one of the blades that would become a black knife it fits the "oddly misshapen blade" description.

AnonymousSo Can Anyone Explain When I Get To The Same Place Where The 'Blade Of Calling' Is Located At And Only For The Erdsteel Dagger There Instead?

AnonymousSo Can Anyone Explain When I Get To The Same Place Where The 'Blade Of Calling' Is Located At And Only For The Erdsteel Dagger There Instead?

AnonymousSo did anyone else find an erdsteel dagger instead of the blade of calling? Cause when i went there im thinking im getting the blade of calling but i get the erdsteel dagger instead

AnonymousIt is close in appearence to the Black Knife dagger, just without all the jagged ends. Curious to think about if we assume Melina isn't teleporting.

Anonymous
AnonymousDamage is going to be comparable to Black Knife regardless of build, only re choice to make is weapon skill preference and aesthetic. Blade of Gold knocks down, Blade of Death reduces max HP and deals additional DoT. Both have their strengths.

AnonymousIf you think this is usless you have no idea how stats work in this game. This is a caster version of the Black Knife since it has better FTH scaling.

AnonymousAnyone else think this bears a fairly striking resemblance to the Shamshir weapon? Similar coloration and curvature, and the hilt looks very similar too. I guess both Melina and Malenia are daughters of Marika, so it makes sense there'd be some connection.

AnonymousThe Blade of Gold have more poise dame comparing to Blade of Death and it also cost less.
So this is not completly worse than the Black Knife like many people say.
AnonymousPeople are like 'haha lazy dev exact same as Black Knife' but I think that's entirely the point, seeing how the Black Knives look almost the same but are imbued with the power of Destined Death... Safe to say with Malena's whole thing about DD and Ranni's Ritual that they're probably involved in some way.

AnonymousLiterally black knife but not as good! Both abilities scale as holy damage! But the black knife debuffs and dot! Like let’s be real devs got lazy

AnonymousLiterally black knife but not as good! Both abilities scale as holy damage! But the black knife debuffs and dot! Like let’s be real devs got lazy

AnonymousCan anyone confirm what an old comment state? This WA does more stagger/posture break than the black knife?

AnonymousTo those wondering if this is Melina’s dagger. I don’t see anything that says for absolutely sure, however if you listen to what she quotes at the giants forge and look at the dagger info they are the same quote.

AnonymousWeapon skill costs less than the Black Knife and has knockdown. Able to knock down Malenia.

Anonymous"The one who walks alongside flame, Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death." ~the item description foreshadows the three finger ending, true ending?

AnonymousMillicent doesn't use that weapon, she uses a Shamshir with Waterfowl Dance and katana moveset

AnonymousSame AoW animation as black knife
Same weapon form as black knife
Same extra stealth damage from back
Hm...
AnonymousI wonder why you find this weapon in that office-looking room. Isn't it supposed to be Melina's or something?

Anonymousthis dagger helped me defeat black knife tiche when i was a faith dragon incantation build noob

AnonymousUsing this and the black knife dagger on a dex/faith build for a lord's blade Ciaran vibe

AnonymousBoth this and the black knife's weapon art are great for dodging ground based AOEs if timed correctly, and they also have some surprisingly good hyperarmor

I wish different weapon classes could power stance because this knife looks really cool next to the shamshir
