What is Diablo 2: Resurrected?

Diablo II: Resurrected  is a remastered version of the quintessential action RPG Diablo 2. Pursue the mysterious Dark Wanderer and fight the denizens of hell as you uncover the fate of the Prime Evils Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, now in up to 4K (2160p) resolution on PC. Diablo 2: Resurrected was initially released on August 13, 2021. Later, the game was ported to Steam/PC on February 12, 2026, along with the Infernal Edition, which includes the base game and Reign of the Warlock DLC.

NEW Warlock Class in Diablo 2: Resurrected

The Warlock is now available in Diablo 2: Resurrected's lineup of classes. The Warlock uses forbidden magic and can specialize in one of three available paths- Demon: Enslave hellspawn as fearsome allies Eldritch: Channel magics to transform weapons into conduits of destruction Chaos: Unleash Hell, fire, and shadow on enemies from afar. Regardless of the chosen path, the Warlock has a passive, where they use a levitation spell on their right-hand weapon. This allows them to wield a two-handed weapon (using one hand), then equip another off-hand weapon.

To start playing this new class, players must purchase the Reign of the Warlock, DLC. For new players, they can opt to buy the Infernal Edition, which already includes the base game + the DLC.

 

New System: The Chronicle

The Chronicle is a new feature available in the Reign of the Warlock DLC. This system combines a list of all Collected Items to help players track and maintain their stash, in pursuit of collecting the rarest of items available in Diablo II: Resurrected. The Chronicle tracks every item that has been collected by the player, including Unique Items, Sets, Runewords, built into the game. The system also tracks when and where these pieces are found.

The Chronicle is not only a tracker for player collection, but there also rewards that can be unlocked as players grow their collection.

New Items and QoL Updates in Diablo 2: Resurrected DLC

Along with the release of the Warlock class in Diablo 2, the master of forbidden magic arrives with their own arsenal. Powerful tomes called Grimoires can now be used by the Warlock. This new weapon category allows the Warlock to imbue mods onto their staff, granting additional inherent elemental weapon damage, attributed to Fire or Magic damage. There are also new uniques, new item sets, and new Runewords.

For Quality of Life updates, Diablo 2 DLC introduces a new loot filter and stash tabs to make organizing simpler. The Loot Filter gives players a full control over item categories. There's also a shareable loot filter link, which allows players to share their filter system to others, when playing on PC. For Stash tabs, players can now stack their Items in their stashes, with dedicated tabs for Materials, Gems, Runes, and Consumables.

Game Modes and Character Mechanics in Diablo 2: Resurrected

When playing Diablo 2 Resurrected, players have the option to play in different modes or eras, which are the Classic, Expansion, and Reign of the Warlock. Each mode is different from one another, and any progress, or changes made in a different mode will not affect the character. However, players can also move their characters forward. For example, characters in the Classic can be transported into Expansion, then into the Reign of the Warlock.

NOTE: Characters can only be transported forward, but not backwards. Players can select their game mode upon selecting their class and character name at the start of a playthrough.

 

Diablo 2: Resurrected Base Game is Now on Xbox Game Pass

XBox Games Pass members can now play the base game of Diablo II: Resurrected. This excludes access to the Reign of the Warlock DLC. Players who wish to play this expanded version of the game can purchase the Infernal Edition instead.

The Warlock Hardcore 99 Race

Warlock Hardcore 99 Race is a special event in Diablo II: Resurrected introduced alongside Season 13, where players compete to reach Level 99 using a Hardcore Warlock character.

The event begins on February 20, 2026 (5:00 p.m. PT) with the launch of the new Ladder season. The first 300 players to achieve Level 99 under Hardcore conditions will be permanently recognized, with their Battle.net names engraved on a physical monument known as the Grimoire of the Unfallen at Blizzard’s campus.

Participation is open to all regions. To qualify, players must reach Level 99 on a Hardcore Warlock within the Season 13 Ladder and submit proof, including their Battle Tag and a screenshot confirming completion. All entries are reviewed and validated by the development team.

This challenge emphasizes both speed and survival, as Hardcore Mode allows no character death recovery. The event concludes once the 300th verified player reaches Level 99, marking the end of the competition.
