This achievement builds on more than 5,000 hours of successful methanol testing in both single- and dual-fuel modes and reinforces our commitment to supporting customers with flexible, future-ready propulsion solutions. As Dr. Lukas Koehler, our Senior Vice President Global Marine & Mining, states: “We are giving our customers the assurance that they will be able to operate their ships on methanol in future, as soon as the fuel is sufficiently available.” Together with our ongoing work on HVO, e-diesel, and other sustainable fuels, this certification marks another step in helping the maritime industry reduce emissions while maintaining operational reliability and flexibility. Sometimes the most impressive part of a ferry is hidden below deck. In the engine rooms of Navigazione Laghi’s hydrofoils on Lake Garda, Doeksen’s ferries in the Dutch Wadden Sea and Liberty Lines’ hybrid fast ferries, gleaming silver mtu engines are quietly powering reliable passenger transport day after day. While they may look similar at first glance, they represent different technologies tailored to very different missions. On Lake Garda, the hydrofoil Galileo Galilei relies on two mtu 12V 2000 engines, each delivering 1,080 kW. Their power lifts the vessel onto its foils, enabling speeds of up to 36 knots while transporting up to 160 passengers along the lake’s coastline. Further north, Doeksen’s catamaran ferries connect the Dutch mainland with the islands of Terschelling and Vlieland using mtu Series 4000 gas engines, combining reliable operation with lower-emission propulsion. And in Sicily, Liberty Lines’ hybrid fast ferries pair batteries with mtu 16V4000 engines. The hybrid system enables locally emission-free manoeuvring in port, while renewable HVO fuel can significantly reduce lifecycle CO₂ emissions. Different engine series. Different fuels. How do you prepare service engineers for complex marine engine systems on ships before they work on a real mtu marine engine for the first time? The answer increasingly lies in a combination of physical training models, digital twins and augmented reality. Rather than acquiring knowledge solely through theory or directly on the job, technicians can now practise maintenance, diagnostics and fault-finding scenarios in a safe and realistic environment. What’s particularly exciting is that our mtu AR technologies superimpose key information directly into the technician’s field of view and guide them step by step through complex tasks. This reduces the learning curve, enhances safety and improves the quality of training for marine engine service technicians. A significant milestone for our customers and programme partners: congratulations on the delivery of the 100th Boxer vehicle to the British Army. 🇬🇧 At the same time, engine deliveries for the Boxer MIV programme have already moved well beyond this milestone, with 140 mtu Series 199 engines delivered and ready to support the next phase of vehicle production. At the heart of every British Boxer is an mtu 8V199 TE21 engine, delivering 600 kW of power. Each engine is assembled, tested and painted at our facility in East Grinstead before being integrated into the vehicles built by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land and KNDS UK. With more than 4,500 Series 199 engines delivered and in service across 16 NATO nations, this milestone highlights the growing importance of the Series 199 as a strategic propulsion platform for modern land defence. We are proud to celebrate the successful graduation of all 37 apprentices who completed their apprenticeship program this summer. Their achievements reflect much more than technical excellence. They represent curiosity, commitment, and the next generation of skilled professionals who will help shape the future of our company. Developing young talent is a key part of our long-term success. Through a combination of hands-on experience, technical expertise, and international exposure, we prepare our apprentices to take on future challenges with confidence. As part of their development, five apprentices gained valuable experience in Portugal, five expanded their skills with our partner Penske Australia & New Zealand, and two completed placements in Ireland. These international opportunities help broaden perspectives, strengthen professional skills, and foster global collaboration. We are especially proud that Felix Lanz and Julian Hafner were recognized as IHK Bodensee-Oberschwaben award winners. Together with them, 12 Rolls-Royce apprentices have received this distinction over the past four years, highlighting the high quality of our apprenticeship program and the dedication of our young talents. More than 5,000 mtu Series 4000 gas engines: We recently reached an important milestone with this production record at our Friedrichshafen facility. Together, the engines produced deliver approximately 7.5 gigawatts of electrical power, which could meet the electricity needs of about 20 million households. From Friedrichshafen, most of the engines are shipped to our system plant in Augsburg, where we assemble them into complete generator sets and deliver them to customers worldwide. The strong demand for gas-fired power generation units equipped with Series 4000 engines demonstrates just how important flexible energy solutions are today. Whether for data centers, industrial facilities, regions with unstable power grids, or to support power grids during fluctuations in feed-in from wind and solar sources: With Series 4000 gas engines, we reliably provide energy when it’s needed. Behind this success lies more than 20 years of continuous development work. Starting with early combined heat and power applications for municipal utilities, we have gradually created a globally established gas engine platform. Today, it impresses with high efficiency, high power density, and a long service life. At the same time, we are consistently advancing the technology, from biogas applications and quick-start solutions to enhanced tolerances for tropical operating environments and solutions for hydrogen-powered operation. This production milestone thus demonstrates how our 4000 Series gas engines have evolved into a key pillar of a secure, flexible, and increasingly sustainable energy supply.

"Battery energy storage is no longer a luxury – it's becoming a necessity." That's the perspective of Evren Guvenc, CEO at Polat Enerji. Together with Polat Enerji, we realize of one of Turkey’s most significant battery energy storage projects. The 132 MWh mtu QG EnergyPack, integrated into the Göktepe Wind Power Plant near Yalova, will help ensure the reliable integration of renewable energy into the Turkish grid while enhancing grid stability and flexibility. By storing excess wind energy when generation is high and supplying it back to the grid when demand requires it, the system will help reduce congestion, support decarbonization, and maximize the value of renewable power. Powered by the intelligent mtu EnergetIQ control platform, the project demonstrates how advanced energy storage can unlock new opportunities for renewable energy operators. Polat Enerji’s CEO Evren Guvenc emphasizes the significance of this collaboration: “Göktepe is the first grid-level battery installation in Türkiye with primary frequency control capabilities and, as of today, the largest installed battery system in the country. We believe mtu EnergetIQ is the brain of the system that can control every part of the installation through one solution. Together with Rolls-Royce, we are creating a benchmark for the future of renewable energy and battery storage in Türkiye.” This project is a key step toward a more flexible, resilient, and sustainable energy system in Turkey.
