What are Companions in Code Vein 2?

Companions are characters who can join the player on their journey to save the world from destruction. As players move forward in the game, they'll have the chance to recruit Partners who can attack enemies from the sides, support the player by healing or boosting abilities, and even unlock unique skills that can be performed in combat for additional damage. Only one Partner is allowed to fight alongside the player at a time.

What is Assimilation in Code Vein 2?

What truly sets Code Vein 2's Companions apart is the Assimilation System. Rather than being limited to having a companion physically by your side, you can choose to absorb their essence to receive different bonuses during the fight. This system allows you to adjust your approach on the fly. Facing a tough boss and want extra survivability? Assimilate your ally for buffs. Need someone to take aggro or add damage? Bring them back into the fight to help you out.

Players who prefer a solo run can still benefit from Companions' abilities, while those who enjoy duo-based combat can keep their allies active at all times.

This system not only deepens the game's combat but also enhances replayability, as experimenting with different Companions (and whether to assimilate them or not) creates entirely new ways to approach challenges.

Partner Actions and Systems in Code Vein 2

• Summoning - Unleash your Partner to fight by your side. They'll act independently, launching attacks and providing support. Use this to handle larger groups of enemies or to execute powerful flanking attacks.
• Assimilation - Store your Partner in the jail on your back to become one with it, granting you increased stats. This is effective when fighting powerful enemies one-on-one.
• Drain Attacks / Formae - Your Partner also performs their own Drain Attacks, using unique Formae for both offense and support. The blood they absorb is shared with you, restoring a small amount of your Ichor.
• Restorative Offering - Restorative Offering restores your health when your HP drops to zero. After Restorative Offering is activated, your Partner will be incapacitated for a short time, during which they cannot perform the action again.
• Link Traits - Your Partner grants you special effects known as Link Traits. These traits are unique to each Revenant Partner and are key to gaining an advantage in both combat and exploration. Link Traits are only active while your bond (LP) with your Buddy is strong. If this bond is broken by taking enough damage, these effects are lost until it is restored.
• Partner Trait Bonus - Partner Trait Bonuses grant passive bonuses, such as boosting your stats or adding bonus effects to combat. By deepening your relationship with a Partner character, you can unlock additional effects. These effects are constantly active as long as that character is accompanying you

Lou MagMell

"The Protagonist's Counterpart, with the Power to Travel Through Time"

A mysterious girl with the power to travel into the past. She saves the Revenant Hunter by sharing her own heart to bring him back to life. Bound by fate, she joins him on a mission to change the past and prevent the world's destruction.

After dying on a mission, the player is revived by a mysterious girl named Lou, forging a pact that ties the two of them forever. As a partner, Lou MagMell is a well-rounded support that can improve the player's defense, extend the duration of the buffs, and gift the Battle Axe: Idris's Conceit.

When fighting at melee range, Lou will use her rapier-type sword to cut through enemies, and she will switch to Magic Formae when engaged in range combat. She can use two Support Formae: Prismatic Veil, which boosts guard defense to elemental attacks, and Forma Extension, which extends the duration of the buffs used by the player and allies. Additionally, Lou MagMell also has a trait bonus that increases the player's Mind when she's the current partner. Lou also has a Link Trait that allows the player to gain Ichor when shot, which is a valuable resource for performing various Weapon Formae.

Lou can also give the player her Superbia Bloodline, which has a high attribute spread for Mind. This stat governs the attack power and duration effects of Magic Formae, making it a preferred Blood Code for players who rely on Weapon Formae when fighting. Additionally, she can further support the player through the Traits that increase Mind, and the ability to gain Ichor when shot. These traits are available to the player while they're partnered with Lou MagMell.

Noah G MagMell

"The Warrior of Resolve, Protector of Friends"

A former human-turned-Revenant who belonged to Mag Mell's Research Institute 100 years in the past. 

To protect his friend Valentin, who values his strength above all else, he has become a personal bodyguard, taking on dangerous missions without hesitation

Noah is a companion who wields the Twin Blades, highlighting a direct and swift fighting style. Noah can strike enemies repeatedly to cut through their Balance, a stat that can stagger enemies, creating an opening for the player. Due to his proximity during fights, he can sometimes take the enemy aggro and allow the player to reset and heal, or follow up with a strong attack or Weapon Formae. When you have Noah as a companion, he can provide Traits that increase Dexterity and reduce the Stamina consumption of actions. 

Noah G MagMell also gives the player his Superbia Blood Code, featuring a higher stat distribution for Dexterity and Fortitude. Players can unlock higher levels (up to 3) of this blood code by maxing out the Proficiency, then talking to Noah to receive the upgraded version. The upgraded version of the blood codes features the same Traits, but the stat distribution will be higher. 

Valentin Voda

"The Serene Pioneer of the Progenitor's Bloodline"

He is the heir to the Voda House, a Revenant lineage descended from the Progenitor and one of the most formidable bloodlines among their kind. He once led MagMell as a magical research institute, delving into the secrets of ancient formae. 

He also holds the title of a judicial magistrate, acting as an arbiter to settle disputes between vampires and humans.

This world exists alongside countless parallel ones that follow different histories, and Jadwiga can move freely between them. However, interfering too deeply with other timelines risks breaking causality, an act considered taboo, as it could ultimately lead to the world's destruction.

Jadwiga is a partner who is well-suited for players who prefer a solo playstyle, due to a limitation that does not allow her to be summoned while exploring. Upon recruiting Jadwiga as a partner, she immediately informs the player that she can offer indirect aid, but has no interest in hand-to-hand combat. Jadwiga can join the player's exploration and offer passive Traits, but she cannot be summoned to fight alongside the player. As a partner, Jadwiga will raise the player's Max Ichor and all Status Ailment Resistance. She offers traits that are suitable for a playstyle that relies heavily on Ichor usage, or when exploring areas with strong ailments like Toxic Venom or Inhibit. 

Jadwiga also gives the player her Acedia Blood Code, featuring a higher stat distribution for Dexterity and Willpower. These stats govern the attack power of lightweight weapon attacks and magic power formae, respectively, making it an ideal Blood Code for players who want to highlight a solo playstyle that can switch between Magic Formae attacks and Lightweight weapons. This Blood Code also opens up an option to take advantage of the Dexterity benefit that allows the player to absorb more Ichor if the stat is not Overburdened.

Players can unlock higher levels (up to 3) of this blood code by maxing out the Proficiency, then talking to Jadwiga to receive the upgraded version. The upgraded version of the blood codes features the same Traits, but the stat distribution will be higher. 

Josee Anjou

"The Tragic Queen Burdened by Guilt"

Josee is a Partner who wields a Two-Handed Sword, a powerful weapon that can stagger enemies with charged swings. While summoned, Josee can overwhelm groups of enemies in melee range, and she can switch to using Magic Formae like Unquenchable Flame. This forma adds Fire Damage to her weapon while calling up a pillar of fire, which is effective when dealing with multiple enemies. Josee can also use Precision, a Support Forma that makes it easier for her and the player to disrupt enemies with weapons. When traveling with Josee as a companion, she can further support the player through her Link Trait, which increases the player's Defense and Balance while charging an attack, which is effective for heavyweight Weapons.

Once available, Josee Anjou can give her Gula Blood Code, which features a high stat distribution for Strength, Vitality, and Mind. This Blood Code also includes a Trait that lets the player Gain Ichor from Weapon Attacks, complementing her Link Trait, since Strength is an attribute that not only governs the power of weapon attacks, but it can also grant the benefit of increasing the power of close-range attacks.

As players use her Blood Code, they can unlock higher levels (up to 3) by maxing out the Proficiency, then talking to Josee to receive the upgraded version. The upgraded version of the blood codes features the same Traits, but the stat distribution will be higher. 

Holly Asturias

"A Healer's Genius Against a Cursed Disease"

A Revenant doctor at a clinic nestled deep in the forest. She wields the healing powers of the Luxuria Bloodline, a lineage rumored to be cursed, to tirelessly research the Resurgence and treat the twisted Revenants it creates.
