It's very dumb that the copy can deal damage. It's literally a light show.

speak with hoarding merrogon (detect thoughts works too) and get the potions of befuddlement. with an easy persuasion.
investigate the spider meat and notice it has been covered in potion after a few checks and yes taste it
if you can speak with animals and have the ability to succeed a dc 30 persuasion you can convince the displacer to join you in the fight against Yurgal. In the first dialogue option only option 1 "i could ask you the same thing" gives access to the eventual persuasion check. (silly consider the slaves path seems more likely).
after combat if it survives it remains in the cave. perhaps we will meet it again later...
