Bernard is an NPC in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). Bernard can be found at Arcane Tower. Bernard is a Construct that guards the Arcane Tower. There is a massive amount of NPCs in Baldur's Gate 3, and their ideals, needs and way of living are strictly related to the actions they perform during the course of the game. Their attitude towards you and your party may be affected by the deeds and decisions you and your party taken on.

Baldur's Gate 3 Bernard Dialogue Options
Bernard is a Construct that resides at the Arcane Tower, it talks to you in a particular way, citing plays that can be found all around the tower. By talking to it like you would to any other NPC in the game, Bernard will simply state that it does not know that command.
- "Or art thou friend, a rescue from my lonely wake?". Bernard turns friendly and you gain 50 XP. Players can read this stanza, from a book called The Roads to Darkness, found on a desk on the level prior to Bernard.
- "How can I trust? How will I ever know? / How can I show myself, my darkest me?". Bernard puts the ring Guiding Light on the table. Threadbare Book contains this stanza, can be found on the floor that has the ingredients Omeluum asked for the Help Omeluum Investigate The Parasite.
- "There is a light in every living thing. /It's crawling t'wards the surface to survive". Bernard turns hostile. Players can learn this stanza by reading the Dusty Book, found on the level with the Arcane Cannons.
- "The silence stretches on - I'm all alone. / Please, can I hold your hands, for just a while?". Bernard gives you a hug. This stanza can be read on the Torn-Out Paper, found on the level prior to Bernard.
- "These empty sheets are all that's left of you. / The last of all the thoughtless gifts you have." Bernard gives you a Potion of Greater Healing. This stanza can be read from the Patched Parchment, found on the table next to Bernard.

- Static Overdrive: Emanate a static discharge that buffs nearby constructs and hurts all others.
- Leaping Static (Honour Mode only): Strike an attacker with lightning, dealing 3d8 Lightning damage. Three more bolts will leap from the target, electrifying as many as three other characters within 6 m / 20 ft.
- Legendary Action: Leaping Static: Once per round, Bernard can spend a Legendary Action to immediately launch Leaping Static at a foe after being attacked.

Bernard Notes and Tips
- Allies:
- 4x Animated Armour (on Explorer or Balanced difficulty)
- 6x Animated Armour (on Tactician or Honour difficulty)
- Defeating Bernard grants 60 XP
- Tasha's Hideous Laughter is pretty effective against it as it has pretty low WIS. Afterward you can disarm it or chip it with range attacks.

If you use improvised weapon and select the construts and "hit" the wooden part overlooking the front of the tower (behind bernard up the stairs) then go into turn based and eother push or throw them off the tower onto the ground below, you can kill them all individually and loot them after and then just kill bernard alone OR use the sussur blossoms to disable them. Mine died randomly in the underdark so I couldn't use them.

If you kill Bernard you can later find his head in the Steel Watch Foundry. It's on a table next to a letter which says a drow found and salvaged it, before it being sent to Lord Gortash for his Steel Watch development.

Noticed his polearm, so decided to find a few methods that granted the player his pretty weapon, whilst minimizing consequences.
Didn't see this method posted... so figured I'd post what I did.
Vanilla game, no mods. I used Wyll ungrouped, but pretty much anyone with *COMMAND* can do this.
* Set up the team so that your thief of choice is alone and your team is far somewhere on the lower levels.
* Get behind Bernard
* Use the scroll/spell Fog Cloud (or any other non-hostile spell that obscures vision) on the one Animated Armor looking down on Bernard from the top of the stairs. Or just cast it around Bernard.
* COMMAND Bernard to drop his weapon (This is surprisingly a non-hostile action).
* This next part is where urgency is required. Sneak mode, Grab that sh*t and fast travel. For my first try, Bernard didn't pick up the polearm so I figured he didn't care if it was stolen. But he immediatly begins searching when you steal it and you'll be the only sucker in the room unless you use an invisibility potion.
I did not return until a minute or two had passed, so that he could stop searching. I returned without Wyll to see if there was anything different. And no... Bernard is none the wiser... and zero rep penalties. While he is without his weapon, He has his Animated Goons and His defenses are still up (depending on how you go about the turrets)... We'll see how he fairs.

Eldtritch blast with push modifier on warlock Wile E Coyotes this poser straight off the tower.

I managed to steal his weapon ("Light of Creation") without making him hostile: I removed all characters except Lae'zel and let her attack him with an disarming attack, quickly grabbed his helbard from the floor and ran like a madman. If you immediately retreat to the basement (he will try to follow but be too slow) you can fast travel once you reached it and on returning to the tower he wont be hostile, just "angry" on you lol. You can then gift him any items to make him happy again. I gave him another decent magical helbard in return to keep the lore intact. Now he says Im welcome. Win win :)

A fight with him can be avoided by reading one of the books found in the tower, unlocking a new dialogue option after the first thing he says.
I read him the lyrics to Bieber's "Yummy" and he yeeted himself off the tower and into the abyss.

I got up to him and he attacked me with each dialogue option I chose. What an annoying fight but I pulled it out once I realized the Sussur Flower messes up his minions lol

put a sussur flower on the center of 2nd top level elevator, then teleport down 3 floors after trigger combat, his minions would all be disabled when they chase you down

I put a smokepowder barrel in front of him and blow him out of the window. Other bots won't even turn hostile.

FYI, when he's standing by the window you can use Repulsor to defenestrate him. It doesn't kill him unfortunately and he immediately heals after, but it's hilarious to watch. You can quickly go down the lift though and fight him without the aid of his minion bots, however, before he makes his way back up.

One of, if not, the saddest encounter in the entire game. The implications of the environmental story telling are, while not tear jerking, at least, a little heart wrenching. There is always at least one encounter where you want to try NOT to end things in violence. This was that encounter. Sure, the brothers and the hag are not bad candidates, but let's be honest. They rushed headlong into danger and death, knowing full well the potential consequences without proper prep. To a certain extent, they earned their doom by not letting a cooler head prevail. Lenore and Bernard are just a sad story... and a retelling if anyone was wise to it.

just escaped down the the elevator and greased the bottom level. the amount of times him and his minions slipped over was overly slapstick.

I positioned my party at the bottom of the tower and pushed this dude off the top to try and finish him below. He landed on three of my guys and killed them instantly. Sometimes you learn your lessons the hard way.

i got this guy to stand next to a window and pushed him out when i made him hostile with a potion of hill strength. was hilarious. then he came back up the elevator and i pushed him again.... severely weakened him enough to take him out.
After you talk to him, he'll stand next to a window.
Split your team:
1 caster with thunderwave spell stands in front of him.
Others stand on stairs outside the tower.
Switch to turn-based mode, push him down.
He will have about 10 hp after landing, finish him easily.
If done in 1 turn, nobody else will turn hostile.
Just don't drop him on the heads of your allies, lol.
(My poor Karlach didn't see it coming)
