This use to be my #1 app to go to!! It was always soooo accurate, and with all the random lightning/thunder shows we get her in NM...I REALLY relied on this app for not just the weather...but the safety of my family...literally!!! Then the past month or so I haven’t even been able to get the app to load properly!! I’d reboot my phone, make sure my phone was up to date...I literally did it all to try and get this app to work like it use to!! TONIGHT, an out of the blue lightning/thunder storm came through and I immediately went straight to this app! Why?!? Who knows...bc it did absolutely NOTHING!! It said the lighting was over 300 miles away...300 MILES AWAY!!! It was directly above us!!! My husband, (USMC vet) immediately ran out front to take down the flag since it started to rain...since BOTH OUR APPS SAID THE LIGHTNING WAS OVER 300 MILES AWAY, he ran out to take the flag down!! Huge mistake!!! HUGE!!! Thank God the lightning that struck right behind him didn’t kill him!! Would it have been this apps fault in the end, no!! I mean we knew it was closer than the 300 miles that the app claimed it at...but directly above us...we had no idea!!! A couple months ago before this app took a crap, I know for sure it would have told us it was above our flippin heads!!! Sorry for the rant...but I literally HATE THIS APP NOW AND DON’T WANT ANYONE RELYING ON IT FOR SAFETY...EVER!!!! ***Gave it a 1 star bc I had to give it something to leave a review! It deserves a negative Star count!!***

I have used weather bug both professionally and personally for many years. My first experience with Weather Bug cane when I worked as the Director of Safety and Chief Fire Official for the School Board of Broward County, Florida, the Sixth largest School District in the Country. One day Randy Smith from Weather Bug contacted me and we had s good meeting and between the two of us we were able to come up with Weather safety programs and devices that could be utilized by schools and outdoor events. Some of these programs were the first of their kind. I am especially proud of the lightning alert system for school events we developed that is now used by many local, state, and national agencies. Unfortunately, it took a fatal Weather event while we were developing the program to make it a priority project. I always tried to be proactive in my job, but unfortunately we are a reactive society. I was also able to install a Weather Bug Weather station at all of the Hurricane Shelters that we had up to the time of my retirement. This allowed us to see from the County EOC what was happening at each of our 45 Hurricane Shelters. It also let us know what areas of the county had the worse weather conditions from a hurricane. It helped when we set up our damage assessment teams. I have many more stories about my relationship with Randy Smith and Weather Bug, but it would take more time to write and it would make this a very long message. This has been my go-to weather app for years. It gets used multiple times a day, and has never given a hint of trouble. Scratch the glowing praises now because with this last update the app crashes on start-up. I followed the developer’s advice found in a response to someone else’s recent complaint and deleted/re-downloaded the app. Bad idea. The app started up once, and then promptly stopped working again, and I lost all my settings for no good reason. Come on, guys. Don’t let such a good app cause this much frustration. The second star I’m giving is based on my hope that you’ll get this fixed ASAP.Update: Shortly after I posted my review the app started working as expected. Then this morning, just 3 days later, it’s back to crashing at startup. I do not want to uninstall/reinstall again, as I did that before you suggested it in response to my original review. It didn’t work then. I hope this usually excellent app is mended soon.Update #2: It’s been about a week since my first update, and while the app is working better, it still occasionally crashes at startup. This happens about once every other day. I don’t know if it’s related, but the problem seems to occur when I first open the app and I’m not on wifi. Anyway, I’ve updated my stars accordingly.

I have previously had a subscription to WeatherBug because they had excellent weather cams, an extensive network of cameras, and excellent functionality. Weather and radar you can find in a dozen apps, but good weather cams are a different story. However, when they overhauled the app they changed the functionality of the weather cam interface and now it is total garbage. With each update I keep hoping it will be fixed, but it’s not. It is so frustrating to open the selection of local weather cams and choose one, only to have it auto-play 12hrs earlier. It goes fairly quickly, so you watch the whole thing in order to come to the current view and what happens? It auto-closes and returns to the thumbnail list of cams. So, try again, fast forward close to the end, and if you can catch it, pause near the current view, but then you have a big gray square and play arrow in the middle of the viewing window. Arghhh. The previous iteration of weather cam interface was fantastic; smooth, easy to operate, and gave a quick, easy insight into my loved-ones hyper local weather. The current interface is absolute flaming garbage. I actually stopped using the app for so long my phone uninstalled it. I saw the recent update listed and hoped things had improved. Sadly, they have not. 2 stars: because the weather is accurate and easy to access, and I like that I can rearrange and customize the items visible that I want, but the main draw for me on this app is gone.
