I recently signed up for the spruce account because I file my taxes with H&R Block every single year. I decided “why not” and filed my taxes to get my direct deposit into my new spruce account. I was a little nervous because it’s a new platform but I wanted to find a faster way to get my tax refund. Signing up for Spruce was easy, learning my way around the app was quite easy as well. My only real complaint is there isn’t a specific section to see my “pending deposits” they kind of just show up (unless I haven’t found where to see that information yet). The best part is my tax return wasn’t suppose to be direct deposited until 02/22, however it came EARLY!! Which is great because one of the benefits is direct deposits up 2 days early and I got it even sooner than that! I’d recommend spruce to my friends and family who want to get ahead of their finances, have early direct deposits, etc;.

I did an instant deposit/transfer from cash app into Spruce for $1250. It never showed up! I have contacted cash app, they provided me indisputable proof that Spruce received the money. I never received the debit card either which is.why cash app was involved to begin with. The live chat was useless it took 5 tries to get a person because the screen kept refreshing knocking me off. The CS was a joke on the chat and the phone. I got conflicting information and a copy & paste from the FAQ’s but they did not tell me anything other than the transaction did not go through bc I exceeded my daily limit for transfers.. let’s think about that I was able to transfer out $5k no problem the day before but I was denied depositing $1250 into the Spruce account? What sense does that make and I had made no other transactions of any kind that day. Cash app says that it was completed successfully and showed me where it was and they have NOT received the money back. They actually refunded the fee for the transaction but if the money is not back into my cash app by Tues then I will be taking this a whole lot further. I had a great experience with H&R Block but I wish I would’ve waited a few extra days for my refund to be deposited into my bank account. And to finish it off they spending account still has not updated from days ago either. There are so many other great mobile banks out there and if you look into this app it’s not a bank just an app H&R Block made… I would give it negative stars if I could.

Update: HRBlock called me finally and kinda fixed the situation but not entirely. I was at least able to get access to the money to pull it all off. They had to activate the card themselves and set the pin number so they had my pin and all my info. Not safe, not secure and no one can really help you. You have to wait 5 days for someone to reach out to you but I told them I’d contact my attorney for holding funds hostage and they called right away. This card and service is downright awful. Don’t do itI never asked HRBlock to give me this card, I never wanted it, I provided them my actual routing and account number. Somehow I ended up with this Speuce account with no card and my taxes are just sitting. No one can help me or give me information. I keep being told they have to send emails and I have to wait 5 business days or longer for any assistance. They tell me they can see the account and all my info matches but I have no access to my money. I would run from these people. If you haven’t gotten a card from them, they want the card info before sending you another card! HOW WHEN I NEVER GOT IT!!! Never even asked for this and here I am with no insight on when I’ll be able to access the money. They’ll close the account but it’ll take longer than 5 business days to process the closure and send a check. They’re ridiculous and customer service is awful.

So I’m a big fan of online fintech style banks and their mobile apps and wanted to try this account out and use it as a side bank…. BIG MISTAKE !!! I downloaded the app and applied for account. Afterwards, their mobile app makes you put in your phone number and/or email address EVERY TIME you sign in to the app !!! This means their mobile app does NOT sync with your phone or know who you are !!! This is a HUGE security risk and the first red flag !! Once you’re in the mobile app, if you try clicking on “security notifications” to choose how you’d like your security set up, it doesn’t do anything ? It does nothing !! It’s like it’s disabled ?? 2nd red flag !! It gets worse from there….. I called their toll free number to close down my account since there’s NO WAY I’m going to trust this company or banking app with my info, let alone my money, and SURPRISE !! I get a call center in a foreign country….. Philippines !! Umm…. how about NO !! And the lady I spoke with, didn’t even have the ability to close down my account ?!?! Seriously ?? Is this a joke ?? She told me she would have to submit a request to their “back office” to close my account and that basically I MIGHT get an email confirming closure, whenever they get around to it ?? DO NOT TRUST YOUR INFO, MONEY, OR PAYCHECK TO THIS COMPANY !!! You’ve been warned !!
