4 stars because I liked it up until I hit a brick wall. And it was free so I didn’t spend money on something I couldn’t keep playing. Some might find the challenge just right but it was just slightly too hard for me. I wish there were accessibility features to be able to enjoy the rest of the game but I understand that is a lot to ask from a free mobile game created by a very small dev team (single dev?) that was purposefully balanced to be a difficult challenge.I was doing fine up until the first boss level. I am just not fast/precise enough to do what is needed under time pressure no matter how many times I have tried. It is frustrating to know what needs to be done, knowing that it is possible, but be seemingly incapable of being able to do it. I just couldn’t keep banging my head against the wall and had to accept the fact that I am not good enough to be able to finish the game. If this is how the first boss is I think the rest of the game would be too hard for me anyway ☹️ This is a shame because I was really enjoying the art and tricky puzzle platforming gameplay up until that point.

Catbird and Kitty Death Room are excellent games but there is a small issue with the controls, and that is that on a large display, like the 11 inch iPad Pro, the controls are far too large, why aren’t the scaled? You could use the device ID or dpi and display size to calculate the size of the buttons couldn’t you? Or allow the buttons to be scaled?

I have never left a review for any game on the App Store, but this game is simply incredible! The difficulty of the game is definitely its biggest selling point. Each level makes you feel a great deal of accomplishment upon beating it. The controls are also very smooth and well placed. I did not have one control issue. I also never encountered a bug or any drop in performance. I really like the simple story and the addition of the void as well. The final boss was my favorite level of the game and also the hardest besides Lava Bowl. The only change I would make to this game is to make the first two bosses harder. They are easier than most of the levels and and MUCH easier then the final boss. This game is a 5/5 on one metric I can think of, it’s simply amazing! Great job devs!

If you haven’t already, I would recommend you play Cat Bird first, it’s the The Super Mario game to this Super Mario 2. The style of these games, the fun use of plat forming makes this and Cat Bird my favorite games of all time on mobile. I do think there’s a better name than “Kitty Death Room” if I’m being honest, like “Death Kitty”, but it has just as amazing visuals, new mechanics, and solid gameplay that will make me keep a closer eye on this studio. This game has no right being free and to think I wouldn’t have known this game came out if it wasn’t for the App Store putting it on its homepage.
