Hangs all the time

This app has a lot of great content, but technically has some improvement to make. In particular, when you download content and try to watch it off-line, it seems to get hung up somewhere, and you have to force quit the app to regain control. Even when connected to the Internet, I have seen it become unresponsive. I look forward to using this more when these technical issues are worked out.

Incredibly lackluster VisionOS exepience

HBO Max seriously dropped the ball with VisionOS 26. Apple’s new Nearby Sharing feature is fantastic. On Apple TV and Disney+ it works seamlessly, letting two Vision Pro users watch together without any setup headaches. But on HBO Max, it’s completely unreliable.I’ve only managed to get it working once, and even then it broke the moment we paused to take a break. Every other attempt ends the same way: we can start a nearby share, the other person sees the interface, and once playback begins, only the person who initiated the share sees the video. The invited viewer is stuck on the app’s UI or a black screen. Restarting, reinstalling, re-pairing, none of it helps.This combined with other annoyances like the Throne Room environment no longer dimming when video playback starts really seems like there are some massive QA issues on the VisionOS development side. Also, while I’m on the subject of environments: why are the environments so incredibly bloated and unoptimized? Disney ships six environments which look objectively better and installing all of them takes up roughly 3 gigs of storage. HBO Max’s TWO environments are account for nearly 2 gigs, and as I stated previously look way less convincing and perform worse.I’m looking forward to updating this review if they ever get around to implementing these much-needed fixes.

Audio language issues

The Max app on Apple Vision Pro has several frustrating issues, but the two most disruptive are:1.Audio Language Switching – The app frequently changes the audio language unexpectedly when a new episode starts or when resuming playback after the screen dims and the video window reopens. Despite forcing US English as the preferred language in accessibility settings, this issue persists, making for a frustrating viewing experience.2.Numerous Bugs – The app is riddled with various glitches that impact usability. These range from UI inconsistencies to playback issues, making it feel like an unfinished product on Vision Pro.Max needs urgent updates to fix these problems.
