This is the best non-subscription app I’ve used, great for DC/bodybuilding training. Obviously created by devs who actually see gym time. Just a few tweaks would make it completely perfect. A few improvements I’d like to see: -since scrolling through the pounds/kilos is done at the bottom of the screen, sometimes my phone thinks I’m trying to switch between apps (iPhone 12, if that is helpful). VERY annoying. If the weight wheel could be moved up just a tad, this problem could be fixed. -full-screen timer would be nice so I don’t have to switch between apps. -need a way to edit what reps I did after I close a workout. I did a 20-rep widowmaker leg press yesterday, but accidentally marked it as 8 reps and didn’t realize my goof until today. I couldn’t find a way to edit my workout to claim the whole 20. Looks like I was being a slacker lol. Again, great job devs!UPDATE: The app developer replied with a way to edit/revise number of reps. A very handy and welcome feature! Dev also pointed out the presence of a full screen timer. While it’s a nice feature, it’s not as robust as the 1timer app I use which vocally sounds off the remaining seconds. If Gymbook can find a way to incorporate a way for Siri to countdown, or even collaborate with the 1timer dev, this would be the hands-down perfect gym app. By the way, after I wrote my last review I questioned myself why I hadn’t rewarded the dev for such an amazing job. I promptly dropped the $8 for the full version.
Developer Response Hi Okinawa - Thanks a lot for your very nice feedback! 😀 We'll be happy to add your requests to our backlog. Regarding the full-screen timer; did you try the graphical timer? That might be what you are looking for. Also, regarding editing old workouts; you can change the date of the workout you want to log from within a workout. To do so, open a workout as you always do, tap on 'Today' and select the desired date. Afterwards, from there you can edit your logs.By the way: in case you haven't noticed yet, you can access our FAQ page via 'Settings' > 'Frequently asked questions' (or under https://gymbookapp.com/faq). Often, you can find answers to your questions there. Of course, you can always reach out via email if you have further questions.

There are tons of workout tracker apps these days, and most of them require a monthly subscription fee of $5+/month. To be honest, I’m pretty sure the cheapest I found during my search was $10/month. At any rate, this app is free, but if you want to unlock all the features, it’s just $5 ONE TIME. You can unlock specific features for less than that btw.I used the free version for a few weeks and it was good. I loved that I could add an unlimited number of exercises and workouts, and that I could just use my Apple Watch during the workout. I unfortunately couldn’t get the timer alarm to work on the free version for some reason. While I worked with tech support on the issue, I decided that regardless, I like the app and wanted to support them, so I upgraded to the full version (again, just $5 one time). The notable impacts that had for me was adding some pre-made movements and (the big one for me) unlocking auto start timer. Now I’m able to log my lift after each set and once I log it, the timer auto starts. Lucky for me, this fixed my issues with the timer. Now it does everything I wanted out of the app, and i don’t have to keep spending money on it!There are other features that come with the upgrade, but they aren’t coming to me at the moment. Their website spells it out well, so check it out. Anyways, collectively, this is by far the best value workout app for my needs I’ve found and I definitely recommend it.

Short version: just download it already and pay the $5. You won’t regret it. Best money I’ve spent on my workouts since I bought my Alpha Grips. Long version: I’m a fairly experienced lifter who doesn’t need to be told or shown how to do a workout or an exercise. I have my own plans I do and most of the workouts available on the App Store don’t do what I want them to do. This one is perfect. I’ve tried all the current gym log apps out there. BodySpace, FitList, Gymatic, Gymaholic, and several others not worth mentioning. BodySpace is great, but no Apple Watch support. FitList is great except you have to uninstall and reinstall every month or so when it stops syncing to your watch and you lose all your data, even if you’ve paid for premium. And the other two are way too expensive. I used an app called GymBuddy way back when on the first gen iPhone and it was terrific, but unfortunately it’s no longer supported or updated. GymBook is similar to that in that you can add your own exercises, make custom workouts, and it doesn’t get in your way with trying to show or tell you what to do. This app works seamlessly with the Apple Watch for logging, tracks your workouts to Apple health so you close your rings, and for $5????? Hell yeah I’ll take it! I’d give 10 stars if I could.

This is probably the best workout tracker I’ve ever used. It’s much cheaper than most and it has a huge selection of exercises and a great system to track them. There are a few minor issues I do have. I would like for there to be a superset option with workouts, as well as a drop set option, rather than just putting it in notes or adding a cool down set. The grouping function is slightly confusing in my opinion and doesn’t really function like I would want a superset function to work. I also think the graphs are confusing. I’m not too sure what the red and white lines represent, and it isn’t really explained anywhere in the app. My main issue with the app is the logs. They have more of the line graphs that are confusing, and there’s no good way to see what you did last workout unless you just finish the workout. It would be nice to be able to access the summary of a workout in a separate tab that doesn’t go away right after the workout. I know it seems like a lot of complaints, but this app is great. It does all of the basic functions much better than most apps, and it’s much cheaper. With my complaints I’d still rather use this app every time compared to other trackers.

Under-the-hood improvements and performance optimizations. Preparations for upcoming features and further enhancements.
⎯ 7.0.30
Target region and equipment filters are now saved. When returning to the screen or reopening the app, your last selected filters are restored. To reset the filters, select 'Any region' or 'Any equipment' respectively.
⎯ 7.0.27
Editing workouts and exercises within a workout has been slightly adjusted. In particular, editing exercises now features a redesigned, minimizable heat map sheet in a full-width view showing front and back simultaneously, with the ability to toggle between strength, cardio, and stretching. Comparing muscle distribution while building a workout is now easier. The heat map sheet also introduces a subtle Liquid Glass look that aligns with iOS 26.
In addition, heat maps in workout detail screens now support all exercise types and allow toggling between them. The small heat map thumbnails show the heat map of the exercise type that contributes most to the workout, and if it is not strength (for example, cardio or stretching), a corresponding icon is shown accordingly.

Under-the-hood improvements and performance optimizations. Preparations for upcoming features and further enhancements.
⎯ 7.0.25
When opening line graphs from a screen with logs (for example via the 'History' tab), the end date is now dynamic, making it easier to review graphs where the most recent log is in the past.
A UI issue when changing the period has also been fixed.
⎯ 7.0.23
GymBook for Apple Watch now allows deleting logs from today.
Further performance and user interface improvements.
⎯ 7.0.21
Radar charts have been added, offering a new way to visualize how training is distributed across regions and muscle groups.
⎯ 7.0.19
Preparations for radar charts (coming soon). Doughnut chart groupings are now remembered, and data is displayed in a sorted order instead of the previous random order.
⎯ 7.0.17
Added 4 additional exercises, which are available with GymBook Pro:
- Smith Machine Hip Thrusts
- Sissy Squats
- Plate Sissy Squats

7.0.7 10/08/2025
⎯ In this release
⎯ 7.0.26
- Kneeling Sissy Squats
⎯ 7.0.13
When looking at logs (for example organized by workout, exercise, date, target, or all), skipped logs can now be hidden.
Furthermore, the "Workout Matrix" has been updated to align with Apple's Liquid Glass design language.
