DREDGE

One-eyed giant eels? Alien-like anglerfish? You’ll be shocked at your haul in this creepy, Lovecraftian fishing game.
I’m happy I only picked this up for $10, it’s a fine 4-star game. I was attracted to the game because it won Apple’s iPad Game of the Year. I played the demo and was very much on the fence, it seemed like more of a grind than anything else. I bit the bullet and played until completion. There’s a bit more inventory management than I care for, the storyline is okay but the real untapped potential was in the individual locations. I won’t be buying any DLC. I’m kinda happy to put this one behind me.
Game is beautifully made and has easy to use controls. The game itself is a lot of fun to play with a lot of character interaction and different fishing mechanics for different fish which I really appreciate. I haven’t finished the game yet, but the story is really good so far and has me guessing as far as what exactly is going on! This will end up being one of few games I complete.
Our daughter has nicknamed the sea beast in Gale Cliffs ‘George’ and she loves going through the channel announcing “I just got another boat kiss from precious George!” She even went down to clean up all the black ooze so George wouldn’t have to swim through it. Any game that allows you to insert your imagination this much is well crafted and we’ve spent hours just puttering around.
I’ve gotten pretty fed up with pay to play games and games with endless in app purchases. I much prefer the format of Dredge - a demo that is fully playable for a large chunk of the game, up to the point where you know whether you want to keep going or not. Dredge is a good enough game that I was happy to pay $10 to unlock the rest.
I have both iOS and PS5 versions. I actually prefer this version. I think $20 would have been fairer. Progression feels natural and rewarding. I bought it before a trip to keep me occupied and it was the perfect game for it. Just about 95% of the way through. Very solid game and I definitely recommend it.
There is absolutely no reason why people should be leaving this game a one star. Sure, it’s not for everyone, especially with the intense scenes and the eerie story, but come on. Just because you have to do a little extra work to get around the map and organize your boat and all that doesn’t immediately make it a bad game. Just because people don’t like the immersion doesn’t mean they have to blab their mouths about it. One common theme as well is complaints about pricing, and come on. It literally says in the description in all caps and bolded, “PAY BEFORE YOU PLAY” just under the in game purchases where the base game is clearly listed as the first purchase. I do agree that the price can be steep for some people, but I think it’s worth it for the amount of rich story there is to discover. Outstanding game, and I hope to play more of your guys’ work in the future!
