We all have favourite window positions and layouts that help us be more productive. BetterSnapTool makes it – ahem – a snap to quickly place windows in those positions, whether you prefer dragging, clicking or using keyboard shortcuts.
What we love: The many ways BetterSnapTool lets you put windows in their place. Drag a window to the top, left or right edge of the display to fill that half of the screen; drag to any corner to fill that quarter. Assign keyboard shortcuts for: putting a window in any half, third or quarter of a screen; maximising a window; moving it to a different display; or custom layouts. You can even assign special actions to the red, yellow and green buttons at the top of windows.
Quick tip: Don’t miss two of our favourite features. Configure Snap Areas that put a window in a custom position when you drag it to a specific area on the screen. And enable the options (in Preferences > Extras) to move or resize the window below the pointer by simply holding modifier keys while moving the pointer – no clicking required!
Meet the creator: Munich-based Andreas Hegenberg has been developing for Apple platforms since 2009. BetterSnapTool was one of his first projects: he created it as a university student, mostly during subway trips to and from school. His favourite feature is custom Snap Areas for your most-used window positions.
