It took us a bit longer than expected - the viruses seem extra persistent this winter, and then the feature turned out trickier than first expected, but nonetheless we are here now, and happy to present our version of cardio fitness.
NEW METRIC - Cardio Fitness aka VO₂ Max
VO₂ max measures how efficiently our body uses oxygen during exercise - and that efficiency shows up everywhere, from workouts to everyday energy and how easily we move through daily tasks. It makes most sense when looked at as a trend, not an isolated number - consider it as another piece of the complex puzzle that is you.
Your smartwatch estimates cardio fitness from recorded outdoor walks, runs, and hikes. You can compare your monthly trend to your average resting heart rate, steps, activity duration, activity energy, and distance - month by month, going back years. When you record any of the three activity types consistently, you will start to observe what behaviour impacts it, how changes impact you, and whether how you feel actually matches what you see.
One thing worth knowing before you dive in: the estimate is most meaningful for those who run or hike regularly. If walking is your main outdoor activity, the estimate can skew higher than your actual running fitness would support. If your main activities are elsewhere - cycling, swimming, gym - the number may not reflect your actual cardiovascular fitness. The trend over time tends to be more telling than any single figure.
Find Cardio Fitness in the Wellbeing section of your Streak tab.
And a little reminder. Having the stats and data is fun and helpful, but don’t let yourself be dictated by it. YOU are the best, most accurate and reliable source of information on yourself. Gentler Streak, like any other wellness app, should be there to help build a better connection with yourself, not replace it - for you to notice changes in your body faster, understand the cause and effect better, and then based on that take decisions that truly support you. That’s what we’d like to achieve.
If Gentler Streak’s been useful, a quick App Store review reaaally helps. It means people hear about it from you, not just from us insisting how great it is.

It feels like the year just started, yet somehow it’s already wrapping up. Which means: it’s that time again: your Yearly Activity Recap has arrived.
Most of us move through the year one day at a time, often on autopilot, and it’s easy to miss how much those days stack up. This recap offers a bit of perspective.
You’ll watch the year sweep past along the Activity Path - the steady stretches, the pauses, the returns. All the ups and downs life brought with it.
Then it gathers the highlights: the time, the distance, the climbs, the energy and the rhythm your heart settled into. A reminder of the work you put in along the way.
Everything comes together in a short animated summary you can revisit or share. A year always looks different when you zoom out.

A couple of useful additions in this release: a Weekly Activity Recap and a new privacy insight.
NEW Weekly Activity Recap
These recaps carry the same spirit as our monthlies and yearlies, but on a weekly basis. The weekly recap compares your activity levels to the week before, helping you spot patterns and better understand your habits. It’s a simple way to stay aware of your effort, stay motivated, and make more deliberate choices. Look back at your week and see how active you’ve been across different sports, the distance you covered, calories burned, elevation gained, and see the photos you took mid-workout.
Find it waiting for you at the start of each new week (Sunday or Monday, depending on your settings) in the Streak tab.
NEW Insight - Your Privacy First
This one comes from a question we get a lot in support: where does my data go? Do you have servers? How do I delete my account?
To clear things up once and for all: everything stays on your device. No servers, no account, no data leaving your phone. We’ve put together a short article explaining exactly how we handle your health and fitness data. You’ll find it in the Insights tab, under the Gentler Streak 101 category, titled Your Privacy First.

Ever wished there was more info about Gentler Streak and how it works? You weren’t the only one. Turns out that “Is there a PDF?” is not just a thing of the 90s, as it came up more times than we expected, and now, thanks to our friends at Hinto AI, there’s something better available.
Explore the complete Gentler Streak Guide, available in the app or on the web. It covers all features and probably everything you might want to know about how Gentler Streak works.
Find it in:
Gentler Streak → Profile → Frequently Asked Questions → For Everything Else → Find more answers here
Or head to gentlerstreak.com. If you’re on desktop, tap FAQ in the top-right corner; on mobile, you’ll find it at the bottom.
If Gentler Streak’s been useful, a quick review on the App Store goes a long way for us. It helps others discover it and hear what it’s all about from real people who actually use it (instead of just the product info from our side).

Widget. New Widget. New Period Widget.
Now, alongside Activity Status, Go Gentler, Vitals, and Single Vital, you can also add a Period widget to your Home Screen! Yay!
Different phases of the menstrual cycle can affect how workout-ready your body feels. Keeping them in view helps keep them in mind and this widget does just that. It shows the current phase, cycle day, and expected readiness.
Still, period is just one piece of your wellbeing picture, something to help you understand your patterns better. How cycle phases affect us varies greatly from person to person. It’s best to observe yourself and add notes with your workouts to learn what’s true for you, and then adapt your behaviour to it.
To add a period widget (or any other) follow these steps:
1. Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until apps start jiggling.
2. Tap the + or Edit button (depending on your iOS version).
3. Search for Gentler Streak and swipe through widgets - the Period one’s last.
4. Tap Add Widget, and drag to wherever you’d like it to be.
If you find Gentler Streak helpful, leaving a review on the App Store is one of the best ways to support us. For a small team, your reviews and ratings matter a lot! They help others discover us more easily, and help them understand what to expect from the app. Good ones also make our day.

5.8.3 20/10/2025
This one is focused on accessibility, more efficient communication, and a little cleanup along the way.
Accessibility
You can now tap Yorhart on the Streak, and its state will be described in detail out loud with the help of VoiceOver.
Post-Workout Notifications
We’ve updated workout notifications - quick reminders to check how your effort affected your fitness. In the previous version, post-workout notifications sometimes arrived with a delay, and that should no longer be the case.
Bug Fix
Rowing sessions (indoors or outdoors) tracked with the Workouts app on watchOS26 are now correctly recognized.
5.8.2 09/10/2025
With this update, we’re hopefully smoothing things out for everyone experiencing longer load times, and for those who rely on voice support, too.
UPDATED
Faster Loading
Processing health and fitness data is core to our app, and the more data-heavy features we add, the trickier it gets. App loading is a continuous work in progress, and we’re happy each time we manage to crack another nut, like this time.
Improved VoiceOver
There have been some issues on the Streak tab, which Jasna has now fixed. Kudos to Jasna!

We have once again had a busy summer! The design style that has been stirring the development waters since June has also been what has occupied us the most. We feel liquid glass fits Gentler Streak perfectly, it makes the app softer and even more yummy to interact with. You’ll notice the upgrade on iPhone, iPad, and watchOS.
NEW VISUAL LANGUAGE
Liquid glass
The design that mimics the look and feel of glass, adding translucency, motion blur, depth, and real-time environmental feedback. You’ll notice it in our tab bar, segmented controls, toggles, buttons, and all single cards (health metrics, sleep, and more).
Layered icon support
Aligned with the new Home Screen aesthetics, and not just for the original icon, but for all 25 custom icons too.
Widgets
Now supporting Clear (glassy) mode.
STREAK TAB 4.0
An app is by nature always a WIP, always subject to change. And our Streak tab reflects that best. With this iteration, we hope to bring more in-your-face info, easier exploration, and a less cluttered interface.
• Your Profile has moved to the top right corner, and is now the only thing calling your attention up there.
• An improved picker for Activity Path, making it clearer which view is chosen and what you can choose among: daily, 10-day, and 30-day view - of course, all with liquid glass effect.
• Go Gentler suggestions have moved to live under the Activity Path and are displayed as single Today’s Recommendations - hopefully more inviting and easier to act on.
• Wellness category elements have been repositioned for quicker access and clearer understanding. No more scrolling to the left - now all “widgets” (vitals, steps, sleep, and period) are in view all of the time.
• Insights waving goodbye to the first tab - with Monthly Recap still appearing every 1st of the month.
UX REFINEMENTS
You’ll notice a general, soft UX overhaul. Subtle improvements throughout the app go nicely with the glassy experience, they improve readability and speed of interaction without disrupting behavior for existing users, while sprinkling a little Yorhart touch on top of it.
PREMIUM MARKERS
In the free version, Premium features are now clearly labeled for better transparency. Once you upgrade, the labels disappear and only show up again when your subscription is about to expire, as a reminder of what Premium actually offers. All Premium supporters are now recognized in their profile. THANK YOU for making all this happen.

This September Yorhart turns 4! In app years, that’s adolescence: sort of past the awkward stage, sort of knowing who we are, and still sort of reckless.
When we first launched, hopes were high, fears were higher, and the runway was… well, short. Four years, some celebrations, some ego bruises, and 122 updates later - people in 225 countries have downloaded our app! That’s the stuff developer dreams are made of. Thank YOU for being one of those giving us a chance. As a small thank you, on September 2nd, there is a special 50% off birthday offer!
We’ll keep paying it back the way we know how: by always evolving. You know the thing everyone in iLand is waiting for in September? We are ready!
THE GOOD STUFF WE RECENTLY SNUCK IN
New Daily Status – Recovery Unicorn
Those rare superior recovery days that happen after hard effort reflect on the Streak tab too.
Step Counter - Rather than turning steps into something to chase, this feature is designed to help you better understand your movement and how it supports your fitness over time.
Monthly Recap With Photos - Your monthly activity recap now with the photos you took mid-workout
RPE Sync With Health - Sync RPE from Apple’s Workouts app - previously, only RPE logged in our app counted toward your Activity Path.

Time for a new daily status. When you are in the state of extra recovery after the days when you pushed hard, that will now also be reflected in your Streak tab! Also, a myth busted.
New Daily Status
Your not-so-olympic form already shows up in your daily fitness status. But those rare days when your body bounces back from strong effort and manages to recover exceptionally? They were not reflected in there, and that changes today! And yes, this status comes with Yorhart riding a unicorn: it only seemed right.
New Insight
You’ve probably heard it before: “Aim for 10,000 steps a day!” But did you know that number started as pure marketing, not science? In our latest insight, we break it down and show why following your body’s demand is more important than chasing some generic number.
The good stuff we recently snuck in:
Faster Loading - nuff said.
Two Insights - On pacing as a movement strategy and a personal story on living an active life with fibromyalgia.

Short but sweet - faster loading when you open the app.
FASTER LOADING
With new features like step count pulling in more data - on top of processing the 30-day Activity Path and your health metrics - the app started taking a bit longer to load. Annoying. Thanks to Luka’s effort, this version should fix most of that.
The good stuff we recently snuck in:
STEP COUNTER - Rather than turning steps into something to chase, this feature is designed to help you better understand your movement and how it supports your fitness over time.
MONTHLY RECAP GET PHOTOS - Your monthly activity recap now with the photos you took mid-workout
RPE SYNC WITH HEALTH - Sync RPE from Apple’s Workouts app - previously, only RPE logged in our app counted toward your Activity Path.
TWO INSIGHTS - On pacing as a movement strategy and a wonderful personal story on living an active life with fibromyalgia.

Another sweet update! Your monthly recap now comes with the photos you took mid-workout, plus we’ve added insight on pacing as a movement strategy.
Monthly Recap Now With Photos
Pics turn those plain workout stats into real moments, helping you remember them for the times to come. It’s a little extra we’ve done to make your fitness journey (or should we just call it a lifestyle at this point?!) feel even more yours.
To make the magic happen, we need full access to your photo library so we can link your workout sessions with the photos you snapped. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to check out previous monthly recaps, with pictures already included!
New Insight: Pacing as a Movement Strategy
Are you familiar with pacing? It’s a strategy that helps balance activity and rest, especially useful for those living with chronic conditions, managing fatigue, or recovering from injury or longer illness. It pairs beautifully with our Steps feature, helping you move with intention, track trends, and manage your energy day by day.

Oh, happy day! We’re pleased to introduce two long-awaited community-driven features: non-recorded daily steps and RPE from Apple Workouts now count toward your Activity Path efforts.
NEW HEALTH METRIC: STEPS
Yes, the long-requested, non-recorded daily steps can now be part of your Activity Path efforts!
We know step counts can easily turn into just another goal to chase — and that’s exactly what we’re working to move away from. To do it well, we had to figure out how to fit this health metric into our algorithm so your guidance stays accurate — and how to represent it visually. A ring might’ve been the obvious choice, but rings tend to create subconscious pressure to close them, which goes against our core premise: adapting guidance to your current needs and capacities. We hope this approach does it justice and lands the way we intended: it’s not about hitting arbitrary numbers; it’s about offering a more wholesome view of your daily movement. Instead of pushing for more, it’s meant to reflect what is.
From this update, you can check your:
• Current daily step count, including total distance, duration, flights climbed, and walking heart rate, plus a progress chart compared to the typical day or your daily average (a Gentler speciality)
• 14-day overview of steps, distance, and flights climbed
Steps feature is designed with two specific groups in mind:
1. People navigating chronic conditions, where pacing and energy management can play an essential role in the day, and
2. Active walkers who walk a lot as a part of their job or lifestyle can now better understand their daily movement and its impact on their fitness.
RPE SYNC WITH HEALTH
Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) entries from Apple’s Workouts app can now be synced with Gentler Streak. Previously, only RPE logged within our app influenced your Activity Path.
If you regularly use RPE with Apple Workouts, you might notice changes in your Activity Path and the guidance provided by Gentler Streak. If the guidance feels off, we recommend dialing back the RPE adjustments and following the Apple Watch’s recommendations, especially for aerobic workouts.
In the past, there were many times when people were not familiar with RPE and were using it in a way that was skewing their guidance. To avoid that, we encourage you to learn more about this feature and how (not) to use it. Open the app, go to the Insights tab> Gentler Streak 101 > What is RPE, How to Use RPE, and Assess Your Efforts With RPE.
TECHNICALITIES
• To include RPE changes in your Activity Path, and to exclude steps from your Activity Path, open Gentler Streak > Profile > Settings > Activity Path Calculation > Sync RPE with Health > and set each toggle to a preferred setting.
• Changing the RPE in Gentler Streak will override the one written in Health.
• Both features available to all users, both premium and free.
Activating both features requires access to your Health data, which you’ll be prompted to confirm. Note that all your health data stays on your device always. This access simply lets us read and write data to the Health app to provide better guidance.
If you find the app helpful, leaving a review on the App Store is one of the best ways to support us. It not only gives us a boost (seriously, it makes our day), but also helps others find Gentler Streak more easily.

5.5.2 18/06/2025

5.5.1 05/06/2025
Oh, happy day! We’re pleased to introduce two long-awaited community-driven features: non-recorded daily steps and Apple Workout’s RPE sync, which now both count toward your Activity Path efforts. These features can help capture your overall fitness and daily wellbeing more holistically.
NEW HEALTH METRIC: STEPS
Rather than turning steps into something to chase, this feature is designed to help you better understand your movement and how it supports your fitness over time.
Here’s what the new steps feature includes:
• A soft visual to represent and communicate your daily step count
Current step count, total distance, duration, flights climbed, and walking heart rate
• A progress chart compared to your typical day or daily average (a Gentler speciality)
• Calendar picker to scroll back up to two weeks
• 14-day overview of steps, distance, and flights climbed
• Insights related to steps
If you’re already doing aerobic or anaerobic workouts regularly, including steps may not change your guidance much. But for those navigating chronic conditions or doing lots of non-tracked daily walking, this feature offers a clearer, more complete picture of daily movement and its effect on your wellbeing.
TECHNICALITIES
• To access this feature, go to the Wellness section in the Streak tab and tap the Steps card.
• ON by default. If you prefer not to include steps in your Activity Path: Gentler Streak > Profile > Settings > Activity Path Calculation > Include Steps > toggle OFF.
• Daily steps available to all users, both Premium and free, while short-term trends are part of the Premium
RPE SYNC WITH HEALTH
You can now sync RPE from Apple’s Workouts app with Gentler Streak -previously, only RPE logged in our app counted toward your Activity Path.
If you’re new to RPE or unsure how to use it, head to Insights > Gentler Streak 101 to learn more. Understanding it well can help your guidance stay accurate and supportive. Open the app, go to the Insights tab> Gentler Streak 101 > What is RPE, How to Use RPE, and Assess Your Efforts With RPE.
TECHNICALITIES
• If you regularly use RPE with Apple Workouts, you might notice changes in your Activity Path and the guidance provided by Gentler Streak. If the guidance feels off, we recommend dialling back the RPE adjustments.
• OFF by default. To include RPE changes in your Activity Path: Gentler Streak > Profile > Settings > Activity Path Calculation > Sync RPE with Health > toggle ON.
• Changing the RPE in Gentler Streak will override the one written in Health.
• RPE sync is available to all users, both Premium and free.
Activating both features requires access to your Health data, which you’ll be prompted to confirm. Note that all your health data stays on your device always. This access lets us read and write data to the Health app to provide better guidance.

With this update, we’re raising awareness about staying active with chronic illness, adding enhanced accessibility features, replacing emojis with custom food illustrations, and streamlining the Streak tab.
ACCESSIBILITY AWARENESS MONTH
To mark the occasion, we’re highlighting an invisible illness that affects around 1 in 40 people yet is often overlooked in the fitness field: fibromyalgia. This chronic condition comes with unique challenges when it comes to staying active - but with the right tools and support, movement can become more manageable and less daunting.
User Story: Finding Balance With Fibromyalgia
Tami Stackelhouse, one of the leading advocates in the fibromyalgia community, award-winning author, and founder of the International Fibromyalgia Coaching Institute, shares her journey of learning to move with her body, not against it. From pacing with a pedometer to exercising confidently with Gentler Streak, her experience is a powerful reminder that fitness isn’t just for athletes - it’s for everyone, at their own pace.
Workout Summaries Got Friendlier
If you use a screen reader or are blind or have low vision, you’ll now get a friendlier experience: when scrolling over a workout summary shared on social media, alt text will be generated to give you all the important details.
FROM EMOJIS TO ILLUSTRATIONS
We’ve asked Soren Selleslagh (Yorhart’s father) to draw the emojis in his style, aiming for a more unified look. Instead of the (cute but generic) food emojis, your burnt calories are now represented by custom illustrations — giving your workout summaries and monthly reports a more cohesive, gentler feel.
During testing, we discovered that people using “Differentiate Without Color” or “Increase Contrast” had trouble recognizing the illustrations. We’ve kept the original emojis for those users, as they serve accessibility needs better. Everyone else will see the new illustrations.
STREAMLINED STREAK TAB
To tidy up the Streak tab a bit more, your Past Activities (those little workout summaries for the past 10 days at the bottom) can now be collapsed. They’re hidden by default - tapping expands them, and another tap collapses them.
If you’re a fan of our work, you can give us a public high five by leaving a review on the App Store - it brings a smile to our faces and helps more people discover the app.
Hope you like what we’ve done - we’d love to hear your feedback >

This is a big one. We have reimagined how the app delivers the info that matters most to you. The result? A lighter, more intuitive experience that puts everything you need right at your fingertips. It might feel a little different at first, but give it a couple of days - you’ll see why it just makes sense.
A Smarter, Simpler Experience
As the app has grown, we’ve realized that while we’ve added valuable features - like vitals, sleep analysis, and the period tracker - not everyone was finding them. That’s on us. So, we went back to the drawing board.
Nothing’s been removed, just reorganized. The new layout puts the most relevant info at your fingertips, making the app feel lighter and more intuitive. Plus, you can customize the appearance to make it truly yours.
For You, Now Truly Yours
The For You section is now fully personalized, with the most relevant info always at the top. In the morning, you’ll see your wellbeing and sleep recap first; later, when those are no longer the priority, workout recaps for that day take the center stage.
What’s in For You?
Some categories appear by default, while others can be added. To customize this section, tap the Settings icon next to the For You title—you can reorder and include/exclude sections as you like.
• Daily Wellbeing Recap (default)
Yorhart’s expression, background color, and a short message about what stands out (if anything) give you a quick sense of where you are. Tap it to enter the previous Wellbeing tab.
• Last Night’s Sleep (default)
Sleep quality, duration, and sleep phases are visible on the card. Tap to access the full Sleep section, including detailed analysis and trends.
• Menstrual Cycle (default)
The card displays the day and phase of your cycle, along with your stress tolerance for the day. This can help you make informed activity decisions—if the info resonates with how you feel. Tap to open the full feature.
• Go Gentler Suggestion (default)
Get up to two of the most suitable daily activity suggestions. The rest are available in the Go Gentler feature at the top right corner of Streak.
• Monthly Recap (default)
On the 1st of each month, you’ll get a recap of your activity success. Past recaps remain available at the top of the Insights tab.
• Insights (not enabled by default)
If you want actionable insights on various health topics, you could get up to four served here. The full library is still accessible for free in the Insights tab.
If you disable everything and For You looks empty, no worries! Just tap the Settings icon next to it and re-enable your preferred categories.
Activity Overview
Logged activities on the day now appear above For You.
Activities from up to 9 or 29 days prior (depending on which Activity Path view you have enabled) are shown below For You under Past Activities.

5.3.3 11/04/2025
Got feedback? We read and reply to every message, so feel free to reach out.
