This mobile app for video creators enables wired and wireless video monitoring, as well as high-precision exposure adjustments and focus control on the larger screens of smartphones, tablets, and Macs.
Features of Monitor & Control
- Highly flexible shooting style
The app allows a smartphone, tablet, or Mac to be used as a second monitor, and camera settings and operations to be performed from a remote location, via a wired or wireless connection.
- Support for high-precision exposure monitoring*
The ability to check waveform monitor / false colour / histogram / zebra displays on a large screen enables more accurate exposure settings at the video production site.
- Intuitive focusing operations
Various focus settings/operations, such as touch focus (operation) and AF sensitivity adjustment (settings) are possible, while a control bar at the side of the screen enables intuitive focusing.
- Equipped with a wide range of colour setting functions
Operations such as Picture Profile / Scene File setting and LUT switching are possible. You can apply LUTs while shooting in Log mode and display the image in order to check the final look.
- Easy operability that meets the needs of creators
The app allows adjustments that are frequently made during shooting (frame rate, sensitivity, shutter speed, ND filter*, look, white balance) to be made on a mobile device. Functions are provided that facilitate shooting, such as switching between shutter speed and angle displays, and the display of markers, as well as a de-squeeze display function compatible with anamorphic lenses.
* If the camera does not have an ND filter, the ND Filter item will be blank.
- Multi-Camera Monitoring
Multiple cameras can be wirelessly connected to a single iPad*, enabling simultaneous shooting, operation, display, and recording from those cameras.

Hi Sony, developers, huge kudos and thumbs up and hugs all around for being absolutely amazing! Honestly, I've been so blown away by the Sony ecosystem and having spent quite a bit of money on an FX6 and an A7IV + lenses I was deliberately investing in time, tested camera systems but mindful that new cameras will arrive soon with enhanced functionality like a fantastic app for example, your cameras already ticked all my boxes for a professional setting so imagine my surprise when I discovered this app AND that you updated these cameras I've purchased to work with it! It shows that you are so proud of your products and you absolutely should be. The app, unexpected, is an absolute game changer. Being able to offer a client a remote monitor with no additional equipment priceless having a quick second Gimbal monitor amazing! Honestly, so very, very impressed and inspired and happy with what is possible and what might be possible now that I have these tools. Thank you for all your hard work. App is missing the most important feature…

Hey Sony, it’s an a7s3 user here…With the release of the 3.0 firmware we can now use this app, but it seems like you’ve deliberately left out the most important feature everyone wants. There is no GAMMA DISPLAY ASSIST on the monitor+ctrl app for a7s3 users. This means that if I’m shooting in SLOG3, I’m still being forced to look at a grey log image just like the old Imaging Edge app. It’s astounding that you’ve given a7s3 users the ability to control 99% of the other functions on this app (in a much better way than imaging edge did) but have withheld gamma display assist. Initially, I thought the entire app that was missing any log assistance feature, but as predicted, if you connect an FX3, you get a plethora of conversion options for log footage. (I know the FX3 supports custom luts, but the a7s3 DOES support gamma display assist). If the functionality exists on camera, it should be supported in the app. Gamma display assist is a function of the a7s3, please don’t be greedy and prevent it from being in this app. Your users will thank you for it, and you’ll stop people flocking over to the monitor+ app and paying $25 for that one, and having potential users exit the monitor+ctrl and creator app ecosystem.

There is as far as I can see no way to control or even monitor audio levels. So you have to set up initial levels and hope for the best. Or use a proper monitor. Unfortunate as it looks good otherwise.

- Audio level display is now supported during high-resolution monitoring*
- Multi-camera monitoring connectivity has been improved as follows
・Connected cameras now automatically reconnect if the connection is interrupted
・Sorting by camera name is now implemented
・The numbers of connected and detected cameras can now be displayed
- A feature that turns off Live View for more stable control has been added
- The maximum number of TOOL favourites that can be registered has been increased from 3 to 6
