As eager fans finally get ready to pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6, Sony teases that the long-awaited open-world action game "plays best" on PlayStation 5. Along with the base PS5's powerful SSD and DualSense integration, Grand Theft Auto 6 will reportedly benefit from exclusive PS5 Pro features.

Though its existence, and even some early gameplay prototypes, leaked a year prior, Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially revealed in December 2023. Two and a half years later, fans have been given just two GTA 6 trailers, both of which focused primarily on the game's setting and story, and both of which showed only in-game cinematics. But despite still not receiving a proper look at gameplay, many fans are counting down the seconds until they can pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6.

In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Senior Vice President of SIE Marketing Mary Yee stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 "will play best on PS5" due to the console's "immersive features." More specifically, Yee points out the PS5's DualSense controller, and states that it will react to the player's actions, "bringing the sights, sounds, and sensations of Jason and Lucia’s story into the palm of your hands." Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and the DualSense's built-in speaker will all play a role in Grand Theft Auto 6's gameplay on PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 5's Tempest 3D AudioTech is also mentioned in the latest PlayStation Blog post, with Yee claiming that the "highly accurate audio positioning enhances your perception, helping to bring this world to life around you in unmatched ways." The PS5's SSD is then highlighted, with it reportedly delivering "near-instant" load times in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Over on the PlayStation Store, the official Grand Theft Auto 6 listing seemingly confirms that the game will also benefit from PlayStation 5 Pro support, with the 'PS5 Pro Enhanced' label being clearly visible at the top of the store page. It's not currently clear just how GTA 6 will leverage the extra power of the PS5 Pro, but it's very possible that the game will make use of the system's unique PSSR feature to upscale the game's graphical fidelity.

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 will officially go live on June 25 at midnight local time. Thanks to New Zealand's time zone being further ahead, however, US fans already have a good idea of what they can expect when their own PlayStation and Xbox stores welcome them in a few hours' time. Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch with two separate editions, an $80 Standard Edition and a $100 Ultimate Edition. Pre-ordering either version will give fans some unique outfits for GTA 6 protagonists Jason and Lucia and their accompanying weapons and vehicles.

An $80 price tag for a base version of Grand Theft Auto 6 is, naturally, already causing quite a stir in the gaming community, with only a handful of games releasing with a similar price tag in the last few years. Similarly, it's been spotted that Grand Theft Auto 6's physical version will not actually include a disc, but instead feature just a code for the game.
