Cyberleek, Explained - Grand Theft Auto 6 Leaks

Leaks are commonplace in the gaming industry, but one of the most severe and well-watched over the past few days has been the leaked gameplay clips of Grand Theft Auto 6 that keep appearing on the internet. These authentic gameplay leaks seem to keep coming, and one name is behind it all: CYBERLEEK. Below, we'll share what we know about Cyberleek, from his motives, spoiler-free leaks (so far), and the repercussions for what he's doing.

Why is Cyberleek Doing This?

It's important to know the "why" as the first question. Why is Cyberleek leaking all of this valuable gameplay for the most anticipated game of the last 10+ years? To answer that, we can look at Cyberleek's manifesto and their Crypto Token.

The Manifesto

Commandment 1: Thou Shalt Not Sell Digital Preorders. Cyberleek claims that their leaks are in protest against an all-digital storefront due to GTA 6 not releasing on disc, and Sony's decision to stop producing discs by 2028.

Commandment 2: Thou Shalt Not Sell Fake Single-Player DLC. Cyberleek criticizes Rockstar's controversial decision to sell an Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 that comes with exclusive missions, stores, and cosmetics.

Commandment 3: Thou Shalt Preserve Single-Player Content. This part of the manifesto reflects the Stop Killing Games initiative, which is a global campaign that requests the preservation of games that cease to function when servers are shut down. However, Stop Killing Games has condemned Cyberleek.

The Crypto Token & Pay-To-Vote Leaks

Cyberleek's primary motivation might not be their manifesto, as with every leak, they promote the cryptocurrency $Cyberleek token.

Purchased tokens are being used in Cyberleek's private Discord to vote in polls that determine which clip gets leaked next from Grand Theft Auto 6, with a recent poll choosing between gameplay footage of flying a plane over Vice City, riding a motorcycle at night, or driving a car.

Who is Cyberleek?

Cyberleek is completely anonymous, and the moniker of a person or group with access to Grand Theft Auto 6's in-development material. Cyberleek's identity remains unknown, but leaks continue to pour in day by day, despite ruthless DMCA takedowns of any footage that appears online.

What Has Cyberleek Leaked So Far?

So far, there have been 6 confirmed leaks that Cyberleek is responsible for. Out of respect for Rockstar Games, we will not be sharing any links, images, or videos related to the leaks, but we will share what we've heard across social media:

August 27: Cyberleek has since leaked 6 more clips, including the Lucia Prologue, and we won't be adding these to the list to avoid spoilers.

Does Cyberleek Have a Full Copy of GTA 6 & Will They Leak the Ending?

The current leaked clips are alarming, as they are definitely real with no AI foolery, and the 5th clip that ends with Jason shooting the word "LEEK" into a wall shows that this is raw gameplay, and it's not just stolen clips. While we're not sure what build of GTA 6 Cyberleek has, they likely have a build from after 2025, since one of the songs playing is "Sports Car" by Tate McRae, released in January 2025.

It's hard to speculate on what build of GTA 6 Cyberleek is playing, since all we have is two trailers to go off of. However, one clip showed a few seconds of a cutscene, so Cyberleek has narrative assets in the build, but could they also have access to the ending?

Narrative assets are usually locked for mastering until the game is closer to launch, so Cyberleek may just have a gameplay build, which is why they play as Jason in every clip and not Lucia. However, we don't know whether they can leak the ending, so it's best to be cautious when looking online for more information about GTA 6.

August 27: Cyberleek has claimed that he has a recent build, and has proved it by showcasing some footage from the Prologue section. However, it remains unclear how recent this build actually is.

Will Cyberleek Be Stopped By Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive?

Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games pursue legal action against network breaches like this, with Arion Kurtaj (Lapsus$) being a notorious case, as he managed to steal and leak 90 clips of Grand Theft Auto 6 back in 2022. Kurtaj has been moved to a standard prison to await trial in July 2026, showcasing that federal prosecution and law enforcement will intervene.

Take-Two has requested a subpoena against Discord to identify and prosecute Cyberleek and those involved in the Discord Server that's responsible for the leaks. However, this is the latest development, and more leaks could surface before Take-Two can take further action.

August 27: Vice Cit, a famed member from the GTAForums site, has observed withdrawn transactions from $CYBERLEEK, which could indicate that Cyberleek is getting ready to wind down the leaks. You can find the investigation topic here: GTA VI Cyberleeks Discussion.

What's Next For GTA 6, & What Should You Do?

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to get an extended look, premiering exclusively on Netflix on August 27 at 3 PM ET. This premiere will showcase the build that the devs intend to share. For now, it doesn't seem like Cyberleek will affect the November 19 release date for GTA 6, but Cyberleek himself claims that "the game is not ready at all", but this could merely be a fear tactic to divide Rockstar Games employees and players.

As a safety reminder: do not download any illegal or suspicious material. If you find executable files, zip archives, or "playable leaks," avoid them, as they may be malicious malware and data-stealing Trojan horses.
