The rumor mill has begun circulating once again about the potential of Fortnite x Five Nights at Freddy's, and there are plenty of reasons why this could actually end up being real for 2026. While this isn't the first time rumors circulated regarding this collab, it could end up being the last, and we'll talk through all of the evidence as to why this may be the perfect time for Fortnite x Five Nights at Freddy's to come to reality after so much speculation.
Scott Cawthon's Very Own Words May Back Up This Collab
The first major collab for Five Nights at Freddy's was announced for Dead by Daylight, where Springtrap became the new killer. Scott Cawthon has talked about collabs before and has stated: "I'm very careful with collaborations because I want to protect the brand and I want to make sure that FNAF stays as FNAF", so it's clear that Cawthon is very careful with what collabs he chooses to do, because of how protective he is over FNAF's IP.
However, just because Scott Cawthon has mentioned how careful he is with collaborations doesn't mean he's completely against them. These words were spoken in 2024, and that's two years for Fortnite to come up with terms and a creative arrangement that Scott Cawthon might be happy with, which could mean that this teaser is for Fortnite:
The lead producer of Fortnite, Colin Friday (@Colin_Friday), also followed Scott Cawthon's Twitter account the same day of the collab teaser. However, no date has been set for the teaser, and it might not end up being Fortnite. Yet, there is plenty of evidence left to support that it is for Fortnite x FNAF, which we'll explain below.
Fortnite Override - In-Game Teasers & the Season All About Gaming Legends
In-game, and just north of The Battlewoods, is a building currently under construction. Fortnite always makes changes to the map during updates, and this wouldn't be the first time they've teased something coming to the map. Many fans have observed the building and deemed it far too similar to the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza building to be a mere coincidence. Even inside the building, there's a stage under construction which could house the animatronics.
But why now? Well, the answer is obvious, since Fortnite Override (Chapter 7 Season 4) is entirely focused on "gaming legends", with iconic characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and more entering the island, it seems inevitable that more collabs will feature as the weeks progress, and Freddy Fazbear is the definition of an icon at this point.
Fortnitemares 2026 Proves Now's the Time for FNAF
Every October, Fortnite introduces the Fortnitemares seasonal event, which only lasts for a few weeks, but indulges in the spooky themes of Halloween! Fortnitemares has introduced plenty of collabs, with Jigsaw from Saw, the Scooby Doo gang, Huggy Wuggy, Jason Vorheese, and so much more over the years.
Just last year, Doja Cat led Fortnitemares as the Mother of Thorns, showing that Fortnite was branching off into new territory with seasonal bosses. It's rumored that Fortnitemares will start on October 1st, bringing an entire month of spooky celebrations, so wouldn't that be a perfect opportunity to introduce the spooky-themed animatronics with a dedicated month of bosses, loot changes, skins, and potential Sprites?
Fortnite & FNAF Have Ties Thanks to Universal Pictures
Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy's haven't just crossed paths in the gaming space, as they've both featured in collabs with Universal Pictures. The Five Nights at Freddy's (2023) movie was distributed by Universal Pictures, and Universal Studios' famous Halloween Horror Nights featured the life-size animatronics of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chicha, and Foxy. It just so happens that Fortnite's joining Halloween Horror Nights for 2026, so could the two finally meet both in-game and in the Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood parks?
