Best Audio Settings
For the most part, Audio Settings in Fortnite are all up to personal preference and have little to no impact on performance. However, for a competitive advantage, along with streaming and content creation, there are a few settings that you might want to focus on. These are as follows:
- Sound Quality: Keep this on High
- 3D Headphones: Set to On if you are using standard stereo headphones. Set to Off if you are using surround sound headphones.
- Visualize Sound Effects: Set to On. This allows you to see the direction of footsteps, players healing and gliding, gunshots, and much more. This does not allow you to see the footsteps of players crouching, however.
- Licensed Audio: For Content Creators, set this to Off to avoid running into copyright issues with content. For casual players, you can keep this On.

Extra Game Options & Other Settings
The rest of the Gameplay Settings available have little effect on performance or improving gameplay. However, there are some that you might want to take note of. These are as follows:
- NVIDIA Highlights: If applicable, set to Off to avoid processing recordings during gameplay
- Tap to Search / Interact: Set to On
- Record Replays / Large Team Replays / Creative Replays / High Quality Replays: Set all to Off to avoid limiting FPS
Best Game UI Settings
For the most part, Game UI is all a matter of personal preference and does not affect performance or gameplay. However, there are some key settings you may want to mess with. These are as follows:
- Show Spread / Show Recoil (First Person): Set Off. This reduces visual recoil for first person weapons, though less used now as Fortnite Ballistic has been shutdown.
- Damage Numbers: Set to Cumulative to make it easy to see how much total damage you are dealing.
- Reticle Damage Feedback: Set to Hit & Icons.
Best Mouse and Keyboard Settings
When it comes to Mouse and Keyboard Settings, players are definitely going to have different preferences depending on their playstyle, device, DPI, and more. As such, we will only be going over the settings we recommend setting to absolute values:
- X-Axis & Y Axis Sensitivity: Keep these at the same values. While the value is personal preference, to copy your sensitivity over from other games, use Kovaak's Sensitivity Matcher.
- Target & Scope Sensitivity: We recommend lowering this sensitivity, typically anywhere from 80% to 75%.
- Building & Editing Sensitivity: Keep this value at 100% to match your X-Axis & Y Axis Sensitivity.
- Zoom Scaling: Legacy is the preferred option for pros.
Best Keyboard Controls (Keybinds)
Many players and pros have different preferences when it comes to their custom keybinds, so there is not necessarily one size fits all. However, we will go over some of the most important keybinds and some recommended keys to set them to:
- Crouch: Shift, Ctrl, or C
- Sprint: Shift or Ctrl
- Pickaxe (Press) / Gizmos (Hold): F, Middle Mouse Button / Click Scroll Wheel, or 1
- Weapon Slot 1 to 5: Any number keys from 2 to 5, Q, E, Up and Down on the Scroll Wheel, or X
- Use: F or E
- Wall and Stairs: Mouse Button 4 or Mouse Button 5 (Pick one for each)
- Floor and Pyramid: Q, E, B, or N (Pick one for each)
- Repair / Upgrade: H
- Rotate Building and Change Building Material: R or T (Pick one for each)
- Building Edit: Caps Lock, Middle Mouse Button / Click Scroll Wheel
- Select Building Edit: Left Mouse Click
- Reset Building Edit: Right Mouse Click
- Switch Mode (Pocket Items for Zero Build): Caps Lock or X (Be careful with this keybind as it may conflict with your Build keybinds)
Fortnite: Best Aim Training Map Codes
There is a plethora of aim training maps in Fortnite that can help players evolve their skills to be triumphant on the Battle Royale island.
Best Controller Settings
Just like with Mouse and Keyboard Settings, there is not necessarily a one-size fits all for Controller Settings, so these will largely be down to personal preference. However, there are a few settings to pay attention to:
- Edit Hold Time: Set to the lowest possible value without triggering it accidentally.
- Slide Hold Time (Also affects Keyboard): Set to the lowest possible value without triggering it accidentally.
- Vibration Feature: Off
- Building & Editing Sensitivity: Keep this value at 1x to match your Look Sensitivity.
- Left Stick & Right Stick Dead Zones: Set to the lowest possible value without experiencing stick drift. Increase if you experience stick drift.
- Left Trigger / Right Trigger Release: Set to the lowest possible value without triggering it accidentally.
Best Controller Mapping
Players jumping onto Fortnite on PC on Controller definitely have a simpler set of controls, albeit with more limitations on Keyboard and Mouse. While you can remap individual keys, this is largely down to personal preference. For those sticking with preset layouts, however, these are the recommended ones to go with:
- Builder Pro: Most used setting for Builders
- Combat Pro: Go to for Zero Build
- Custom: The most highly recommended for players, though you will have to map your own binds.
