The director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has offered a small update on the development of the third game, as the team works on delivering the final part of the trilogy "with confidence." Six years after the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and over a decade after its first reveal, fans are more than ready to get their hands on the final entry in the trilogy.
Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most beloved games in the entire Final Fantasy franchise, and now more players than ever have access to the Remake trilogy. The first game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 and the Xbox Series consoles earlier in 2026, and fans on those systems will be able to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth starting in June. As such, more gamers than ever will be looking forward to the third entry and conclusion.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Director Is Confident Everyone Will 'Love' the Trilogy's Ending
The director of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 reveals that he is confident that players will approve of the trilogy's finale.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is Progressing Well
In a conversation with Comicbook, Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi briefly touched upon the development of the third game and how it's coming along. Hamaguchi wasn't able to share much about the game just yet, but revealed that its development is proceeding on time and is currently on-schedule. He noted that the team knows that many fans are eager to learn more, and that preparations toward making the official announcement are "steadily underway." While he couldn't offer anything beyond that at this time, he asked for fans to wait "just a little longer," likely indicating that a reveal will be coming fairly soon.
Hamaguchi added that he feels grateful to be able to work on the project for over a decade now, and feels that the team can deliver the final title "with confidence." Previously, development team members have revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 now has an official title locked in, but that hasn't been made public yet. The third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will continue to use Unreal Engine 4, rather than switching to the newer Unreal Engine 5, so all current-generation gaming systems should be able to handle the third part as they did the prior entries.
Leaks have suggested that the third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy won't be a console exclusive, unlike the first two games. It's not clear if the game will come out at the exact same time on every playable system, but at the very least, PC gamers might be able to look forward to the third part to release at the same time as the PS5 version.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
As the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has changed the story somewhat, it will be interesting to see how the final game wraps everything up. The franchise has rarely been fully stagnant over the years, seeing numerous spin-off games and an animated sequel, plus plenty of guest appearances and nods to the game in other titles. However, the core game remakes coming to an end will likely trigger post-game depression in a lot of long-time fans. Though fans of the overall franchise have hopes for remakes of other games like Final Fantasy 9, it remains to be seen what Square Enix does once the trilogy is complete.
