Archetype Entertainment is made up of several former BioWare developers, after all, Exodus is a choice-driven sci-fi RPG with companions, alien worlds, and a massive universe to explore, and Mass Effect is still one of the easiest reference points for that kind of game. If anything, the comparison is a compliment, especially considering how much of a mark BioWare's own sci-fi RPG franchise left on the genre.

Matthew McConaughey's Interstellar Role Helped Him Understand Exodus' Big Hook

Josh Cotts

Games

Exodus

Exodus (DamageLine Studios)

Interstellar

RPG

Sci-Fi & Fantasy

PC

Steam

Xbox Series X

Xbox Series S

PlayStation 5

Add Matthew McConaughey as the mysterious C.C. Orlev and some time dilation mechanics, and Exodus even becomes the ultimate video game homage to Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Developed by Wolcen Studio, the upcoming free-to-play Steam game takes the familiar bones of an isometric loot-driven RPG and drops them into an extraction loop, where every run is built around surviving long enough to bring something valuable back. That alone makes Gods, Death and Reapers a standout addition to the ARPG space, as it adds tension to a genre that feels like it has become more about one-click builds and enemies that hardly pose a threat than any actual risk.

Why Destiny 3 Is Not a Given for Bungie's Next Game

Josh Cotts

Games

Destiny 2

Destiny

Bungie

MMO

RPG

PC

Steam

Xbox Series X

Xbox Series S

PlayStation 5

Destiny 3 may still be possible, but Bungie's next chapter may depend on Marathon finding its footing after Destiny 2's final update arrives soon.

From then on, the game will remain playable in legacy status for the foreseeable future, and while some claim that means Destiny 2 isn't actually ending, that feels more like a technicality than a reality. When a live-service game effectively brings its live service to an end, it is no longer alive, and that's what makes this moment so difficult to process for those who have kept up with the game in some capacity since it launched in 2017.
