Historical games are nothing new for Rebellion, who are primarily known for its long-running Sniper Elite series, but Atomfall presented the team with a different challenge. Namely, this was creating a post-apocalyptic game that still maintains the picturesque beauty of northern England (among other things). As a result, Atomfall is a game that looks a lot different from what most players would expect when they hear that it's set after an apocalyptic incident.

Atomfall's Survival Gameplay Features Explained

Matt Karoglou

Game Rant Advance

Atomfall

Rebellion Developments

PC

PlayStation 4

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series X

Xbox Series S

While both Atomfall and Sniper Elite are historical games that emphasize player agency in their sandbox gameplay, Atomfall is distinctly its own thing thanks to its alternate history setting, incorporation of horror and mystery elements emblematic of Cold War-era fiction, and inclusion of survival mechanics in its moment-to-moment gameplay. Atomfall's approach to delivering its survival gameplay elements presents exciting avenues for players as they navigate the isolated Cambria region and get to know its strange inhabitants.

How Atomfall's Dialogue System Dodges One of the Feature's Common Pitfalls

Dan Amoroso

Game Rant Advance

Atomfall

Rebellion Developments

PC

PlayStation 4

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series S

Xbox Series X

There are also RPG elements that emphasize observation and interaction, melee and ranged weaponry to utilize, and the constant need to manage health and heart rate as players struggle to survive.

Atomfall Dev Talks Development and What's Next

Joshua Duckworth

Game Rant Advance

PC

PlayStation 5

PlayStation 4

Xbox One

Xbox Series X

Atomfall

Rebellion Developments
