The future of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series has been in question ever since rumors began circulating about Warhorse Studios' next project.

Bethesda has long been considered the king of RPGs, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios may be coming for the crown. In fact, the studio has already laid down the gauntlet, as communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling has gone on record multiple times saying they fully intend to be the new king of RPGs. Of course, much of that confidence is still held under an umbrella of humility as the team continues to emphasize that they believe they aren't quite there yet. I would personally disagree, however, as I already believe Warhorse makes a better open-world RPG than Bethesda, and my opinion could be more universally shared once the developer launches its Lord of the Rings game.

For all the attention Warhorse Studios is getting because of its confirmed Middle-earth Lord of the Rings RPG, the biggest news for longtime fans of the studio like myself is that it is continuing the Kingdom Come franchise with a brand-new entry currently in development. The main thing up in the air right now is whether that game will continue Henry's story from the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, but while I would love for that to happen, my doubts are high that it actually will. Instead, I believe Warhorse will continue the franchise with an entry that honors the spirit of those games but follows a different narrative and, in turn, a new protagonist. That said, a Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 could still use Henry as a lens through which players view the ongoing history of Bohemia, even if his personal story has concluded.

Well, I certainly didn't expect to wake up to this news today. Warhorse Studios, the developer responsible for what I and many others consider to be some of the best RPGs ever made, casually announced on X that it is currently working on a Middle-earth, Lord of the Rings-style RPG, as well as a "new Kingdom Come adventure." While I was thoroughly surprised to learn that the open-world Middle-earth game is indeed real—especially after Warhorse denied the rumors in class Andrew Garfield fashion—I wasn't as surprised about the Kingdom Come news, though no less ecstatic. The Kingdom Come: Deliverance games are two of my all-time favorites, after all, so, in my mind, I've already pre-ordered the next one.
