Phil may be Hercules' coach, but he's not the only mentor living in Disney Dreamlight Valley. With Mushu also around, it doesn't take long before a friendly argument breaks out over who trained the better hero.

Phil is convinced Hercules is the greatest, while Mushu is just as confident in Mulan's abilities. As usual, everyone turns to you to help settle the debate in the Battle of the Coaches quest.

How to Unlock Battle of the Coaches in DDV (Hercules Level 10 Quest)

Battle of the Coaches is Hercules' level 10 friendship quest, so you'll need to reach friendship level 10 with him before it becomes available. You will also need to have unlocked the following characters:

You will also need to complete Mike Wazowski's level 10 friendship quest "Have Your People Talk to My People".

Battle of the Coaches Walkthrough in Dreamlight Valley

Start by talking to Hercules. He tells you that Phil and Mushu have been arguing nonstop about who the best coach is. Neither of them is willing to admit defeat, so you decide to step in and settle things.

After some discussion, everyone agrees on a compromise. A series of challenges will be held featuring you, Hercules, and Mulan. If you manage to win the competition, Phil and Mushu promise to stop arguing.

There are five challenges in total, and you'll need to complete them all to prove yourself:

Challenge #1: Capture a Photo of the Vicious Lion

The first challenge is easy. All you need to do is take a picture of the Vicious Lion.

Scar is the vicious lion and can be found in his cave in the Sunlit Plateau. Pull out your camera and take a photo of him to complete the challenge!

Challenge #2: Make Lobster Roll

For the second challenge, you will have to talk to Pumbaa first. He asks you to cook a meal for him, but he doesn’t give you everything directly. He tells you the first two ingredients are Wheat and Lobster, then leaves you with some riddles for the rest. You will need something yellow and sour, something creamy that’s churned, and a bulb that tastes great but is not so great for your breath.

If that sounds confusing, you can go to Remy and ask him for help. He quickly clears things up and reveals the full recipe for a Lobster Roll:

1x Lobster (Found in orange spots in the waters around Glade of Trust)
1x Wheat (Grown from seeds or purchased from Goofy's Stall in Peaceful Meadow)
1x Garlic (Found growing in the Forest of Valor)
1x Lemon (Found growing in the Forest of Valor)
1x Butter (Purchased from Chef Remy)

Once you’ve obtained all ingredients, go to any cooking station and add them one by one to make the Lobster Roll. After that, bring it back to Pumbaa. He will happily take it, and that completes the second challenge.

Challenge #3: Get Hydra-angeas

For this challenge, head over to Ariel’s Island. You can reach this location via Skull Rock on Dazzle Beach. You will see a raft there. Use it to reach Ariel’s Island.

Once you arrive, you’ll see many hydrangeas on the island. You only need three specific ones for the challenge, but they all look similar, so I just picked all of them. After you’ve collected them, bring them back to Phil to complete this part.

Challenge #4: Catch Golden Apples

Next up, you’ll be chasing down Golden Apples in the valley:

One is in Peaceful Meadow
One in Dazzle Beach
One in the Forest of Valor

Merlin has enchanted them, so they will keep running away from the player. You can use the well-fed bonus to hover and catch them more easily. Go from biome to biome and catch them one by one to complete the challenge.

Challenge #5: Get Zeus’s Dad Jokes

The last challenge is a comedy round, but first players need to track down Zeus’s dad jokes in the Hercules realm. Go to the Dream Castle, then enter the Hercules realm from there.

There are three jokes to pick up:

One is right near the entrance in front of the waterfall
Another is near the obstacle course area next to the cooking station
The last one is inside the temple.

Once you have all three, go back to the valley and talk to Mike Wazowski. Share your favorite joke with him, then change into something more formal before speaking to Phil.

Phil will ask you to place the Champion Flame somewhere in the valley. Do that, and the judges will pick you as the winner. After that, enjoy the celebration and talk to Herc to finish the quest.
