The June PlayStation State of Play showcase has revealed that the dinosaur survival experience The Lost Wild will be arriving sometime in 2027 on PS5 and PC. The game, which is being developed by Great Ape Games and will be published by Annapurna Interactive, were not the only titles to get viewers excited during the event.

The June State of Play featured more than 60 minutes of trailers and gameplay reveals for upcoming PS5 titles, including a 20-minute introduction to the next entry in the God of War franchise, subtitled Laufey. Additionally, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the first of two upcoming projects in the franchise, announced that it will be launching in February of next year. Rayman Legends Retold, a remake of the highly rated 2013 platform game, was also revealed to be coming later in 2026.

Upcoming Survival Games With Ridiculous Mechanics

The survival genre of video games continues to evolve, with these upcoming titles introducing new and fascinating gameplay features.

The Lost Wild Will Be Launching on PS5 and PC

But well-known and established franchises weren’t the only items on display during the PlayStation showcase. All the way back in 2022, publisher Annapurna Interactive shared a glimpse at The Lost Wild with an attention-grabbing trailer, but there hasn’t been a ton of info about the dinosaur survival horror game since. June’s State of Play satiated, and fueled even more, curiosity with a new trailer that also revealed that the immersive title will be launching sometime in 2027 on PC, via Steam and Epic Games Store, and PS5.

The Lost Wild sets players on a mysterious island covered with lush wilderness, abandoned research facilities, and dinosaurs. The protagonist, Saskia, must use her wits to explore the derelict buildings and either stealth her way around danger or venture off the path in order to survive. The island's inhabitants are described as an "unstoppable threat," and they can be found almost anywhere, even indoors. Many are hoping that The Lost Wild may fill the space left empty by Dino Crisis, and developer Great Ape Games has high hopes for the upcoming title.

CEO Nick Gregory emphasizes that the dinosaurs in The Lost Wild are intelligent, "not monsters [but] wild animals that think of you as prey." It's a promising scenario, one that has admittedly been brought to screen via films, TV shows, and video games many times over the years. Great Ape Games' iteration serves as a "true love letter to the genre," one written by a team with a "shared passion for dinosaurs, curiosity, and a love of games."

As it's a survival experience, Saskia will of course acquire a variety of items to help her hopefully come out of the situation intact. She will have access to non-lethal weaponry and, along with stealth, she'll engage in tense cat-and-mouse interactions with the prehistoric creatures. Players will be able to create distractions, scare off the beasts, and use the environment to their advantage.
