The Pit is one of main endgame progression paths in Diablo 4, and through it, players can upgrade their glyphs and unlock new Torment tiers by unlocking Artificer Tiers. You can unlock Artificer tiers in Diablo 4 simply by completing the highest-existing tier that's available to you. Once you unlock an Artificer tier, it'll be available for all other characters on your account. The process itself is simple in theory, but in practice, unlocking a new Artificer tier can be very difficult if your build isn't up for the challenge.
Diablo 4 Loot Filter Codes and Best Settings
Here are three Loot Filters to help make your looting experience in Diablo 4 a lot easier.
Unlocking Artificer Tiers in Diablo 4
Once you reach the endgame, you'll be able to enter the Pit by interacting with Artificer's Obelisk in Cerrigar or Temis. You may need to reach max level first if it's your first time playing Diablo 4, but if you've already completed the game before, you can access the Pit as soon as you start a new character (assuming you skipped the campaigns).
Interact with the Obelisk, and select the Artificer's Pit option. Below, you'll see a drop-down box containing all the Artificer Tiers in Diablo 4 that you've unlocked so far. Pick the highest one available, and once you finish that, you'll unlock the next five tiers.
Diablo 4's difficulty can be roughly measured by Artificer tier, and if you want to unlock the different Torment levels, you'll need to start by reaching Tier 10 for Torment 1. Each subsequent Torment tier is unlocked after every five Artificer tiers.
Each Artificer tier will be slightly more difficult than the last, so you need to make sure that your Diablo 4 build (like this one for the Rogue) can keep up with the rising monster stats.
Artificer Tiers Aren't Unlocking. What Now?
If you can't unlock Artificer tiers in Diablo 4, then you may need to finish the first few pages of the Seasonal Journey. I can't say for sure if this is a requirement for unlocking new Torment difficulties, though I vaguely remember being forced to complete the second journey page to progress my account. If you are indeed experiencing this problem, then this is worth a try.
Diablo 4 Artificer Tier Rewards
Apart from unlocking more Torment levels, completing higher-level Artificer tiers will allow you to level up your Paragon Board Glyphs more often. If you weren't aware, Glyph upgrades are chance-based — the higher the level of a Glyph, the lower its odds are of getting successfully upgraded. These are essential for making good endgame builds in Diablo 4.
If you complete a higher Artificer tier relative to the level of the Glyph you want to upgrade, then your Glyph upgrades are basically guaranteed. Additionally, if you attempt to upgrade a low-level Glyph after finishing a high-level Pit run, your Glyph will get bonus ranks when you upgrade it. This is great if you're trying to make your low-level Glyphs catch up to your higher-level ones.
Also, once the Artificer's Tower unlocks, you'll be able to compete with other players to see who can clear Pit of the Artificer runs more quickly. You'll also get rewards based on how well you perform here, so consider giving it a shot if you want some extra stuff for your account.
