The early leveling and Torment-climbing phases of Diablo 4 can be rough, especially for players who are using the Warlock class for the first time. This class has a lot of synergistic mechanics that can make buildcrafting overwhelming, so we cooked up a leveling build for the Diablo 4 Warlock class that's simple and easy to use. The following build uses no unique items, and it was made specifically for reaching max level and clearing the early Torment tiers as efficiently as possible, even with suboptimal gear.

Diablo 4 Abyss Demonology Warlock Leveling Build

Before we dive into the details, let's take a moment to talk about how this build works and how it's played. To summarize, this uses skills with the Abyss and Demonology tags as well as the Mastermind Soul Shard to shred enemies while remaining relatively safe using Stealth and high mobility.

Gameplay-wise, all you really need to do is maintain Shadowform stacks using Nether Step, Metamorphosis, and Command Laalish, while using Dread Claws supported by Laalish (the summoned demon itself) and Rampage. With the setup below, you'll be firing Dread Claws in an area around you and both of your summoned Rampage demon, making this build play a lot like a Nova-based Sorcerer or Necromancer. Your loop should look something like this:

  1. Use Metamorphosis off-cooldown to get Shadowform and other benefits.
  2. Cast Command Laalish to inflict Vulnerable and create a Terror Zone that grants Shadowform stacks.
  3. Cast Rampage on your target.
    1. If your target survives getting pummeled by your Rampage demon, cast Dread Claws to finish it off.
  4. Use Nether Step to relocate your Rampage demon and gain Shadowform stacks.
    1. When Nether Step is on cooldown, recast Rampage instead.
  5. Use Sigil of Summoning to extend Rampage's duration. Cast it over big packs to summon additional demons.

Rampage and Dread Claws are your main damage dealers for this Diablo 4 Warlock build. The rest of your abilities are here to amplify your DPS through Hex, Shadowform, and Demonform. Cast Rampage first, and if your target survives the demon's attacks, use Dread Claws to finish them off. When fighting bosses, let Dread Claws' damage ramp up first by waiting at least five seconds before casting it.

Metamorphosis is your main steroid. Not only will it give you all of Demonform's buffs, but it will also generate Shadowform stacks for you passively. Shadowform stacks are lost as you're moving and casting abilities, but since Metamorphosis grants stacks over its duration, you'll essentially have unlimited Shadowform as long as you're not overspending it.

Nether Step and Command Laalish can be used to generate Shadowform stacks. However, the utility they provide (Nether Step's movement and Command Laalish's Vulnerable application) are also quite valuable, so you'll have to balance using these abilities for utility or for Shadowform generation.

Sigil of Summoning is for extending Rampage's duration and to summon Succubi. This is more of a cherry on top, though it synergizes with a Unique item that you can use as an upgrade for this build. If you want something that provides more tangible benefits, use Sigil of Subversion instead.

If you don't have enough passive Wrath Regeneration yet, use Hellion Sting as your generator, replacing either of the Sigil skills mentioned above.

Soul Shards

In Diablo 4, Warlocks come with the Soul Shard mechanic, which lets them summon and use the power of Greater Demons. For this build, we'll be using the Mastermind Soul Shard to boost our Abyss damage and gain Movement Speed while we have Shadowform stacks. This also lets us summon Laalish, an Abyssal devourer demon that applies Slow and Vulnerable to enemies. Whenever you attack something, Laalish will take a bite out of that same target, dealing heavy damage and applying its debuffs.

Pair this with the Blasphemous Fragment to make Recast Abyss skills apply Hex while also making Hexed enemies take more damage from Abyssal Demonology skills. This allows Abyssal Titan Rampage to inflict Hex with every hit.

Demonic, Fathomless Dark, and Frenzied Onslaught are your main damage Aspects. With these three, your abilities will deal more damage as you pummel enemies, and your Rampage demon will attack faster as well. Calamity is here to help you reach 100% critical hit chance against targets with max Hex stacks.

Shelter, Protecting, and Bane-Link will keep you alive by increasing your resistance to all damage types, creating an Immunity bubble, and slowing down enemies. Alacrity will significantly reduce the cooldown of Nether Step, allowing you to reposition more often and trigger Sheltering Aspect more frequently.

Deeper Shadows is borderline mandatory for any Diablo 4 Warlock build that uses Shadowform. By default, players have a max Shadowform stack cap of 6, but this can be increased by up to 14 with the right setup. The more stacks you have, the more leeway you have to maintain your stacks and keep Shadowform's related buffs active.

If you can't get perfectly-rolled gear, Temper your items at a Blacksmith or Enchant them at an Occultist. You can also try transmuting them at the Horadric Cube replace affixes or re-roll their values.

Try to look for any of these same stats for your Talisman Seals and Charms, and don't forget to use Gems for even more stats. Use whatever runes you have, but focus on runeword combos that improve your survivability (unless you feel like your damage is lacking).

To summarize, all the effects of these legendary Paragon nodes and Glyphs will activate through regular gameplay, significantly boosting your damage while increasing your survivability (in Ichor Carapace's case). Focus on unlocking the legendary nodes first, then slowly upgrade your Glyphs until you can max them all out.

As always, don't forget to bring your Mercenary/Reinforcement of choice.
