Crimson Desert: All Training Challenges

In Crimson Desert, there are 10 Training Challenges, found in the Combat category in the Challenges section of the Journal. These challenges require players to get familiar with certain aspects of combat, exploration, and movement abilities.

This article goes over the locations of the Sealed Abyss Artifacts players need to collect in order to trigger these challenges, the exact process of how to complete them, as well as the rewards on offer. Here’s the breakdown.

All Training Challenges in Crimson Desert

Steel Grip Against the Chest

Artifact Location

Found by the side of the road northeast of Pororin Village, between the Sanctum of Penitence and the Sanctum of Temperance.

How to Complete Steel Grip Against the Chest Challenge

• Challenge: Defeat 3 opponents within 1 minute using wrestling skills.

The easiest way to complete this quest is to invest a few points into the “Grappling” skill for Kliff (found in the blue skills section), and use them to defeat a group of three enemies.

Stepping on Clouds

Artifact Location

Found underneath an arch at the marked location in the Steel Mountains near the southwestern coast. You may be attacked by Bradie Gu here.

How to Complete Stepping on Clouds Challenge

• Challenge: Use Aerial Force Palm to reach a height of 10 meters.

For this, you need to first unlock the Double Jump ability. Once you have that, use Double Jump on a flat surface to gain height, then perform Aerial Focus Palm three times to reach 10 meters. Wait for Kliff to reach the apex of each jump before using Force Palm to maximize height.

Sliding Down the Slope

Artifact Location

Found northeast of the Howling Hills camp, between the Goldleaf Trading Post and the Bloomwood Ranch, southeast of Hernand City.

How to Complete Sliding Down the Slope Challenge

• Challenge: Slide down 50 meters.

Teleport to the Howling Hill camp in Hernand. Go to the marked location on the map, and you’ll find yourself standing at the top of a hill with a slope leading downward. To slide down, start running down the slope until you reach max speed (on foot), then tap the crouch key (C or [L3]) to start sliding. Use directional inputs as you’re sliding down to avoid running into walls or NPCs climbing the hill, and you’ll easily slide for 50 meters to complete the challenge.

Rainbow Across the Sky

Artifact Location

Found at the end of the road leading west out of Fort Warspike, southwest of Hernand City.

How to Complete Rainbow Across the Sky Challenge

• Challenge: Use a banner pike to pole vault 5 times in 30 seconds.

Banner Pikes can be found in large bandit outposts, major cities, and large allied camps. You can also buy them from Contribution Shops in exchange for Contribution Points.

• Banner Pike Location: The fastest way to get a Banner Pike is to teleport to the Hernand City Abyss Nexus. Once you’re here, look to the left, towards the stone path that leads up to the castle, and you’ll see a blue Banner Pike, right next to the soldiers. If you’re wearing a Mask, you can steal this Banner Pike.

Once you have a Banner Pike, equip it in your active slot and press the jump button twice to perform a pole vault. Repeat this five times in quick succession to complete this challenge.

Keeping Balance on the Wind

Artifact Location

Found on the Unicorn Cliff, north of the Goldleaf Guildhouse, southeast of Hernand City.

How to Complete Keeping Balance on the Wind Challenge

• Challenge: Walk 10 meters highlining.

Walk on the edge of any ledge, rooftop, railing, or rope for 10 meters to complete this challenge. Even walking on top of walls qualifies as highlining for the purposes of this challenge.

Clash of a Protector

Artifact Location

Found right outside Hayroof Farm, which is found in the Golden Plains region, northeast of Demeniss.

How to Complete Clash of a Protector Challenge

• Challenge: Successfully parry 7 times without taking damage.

The parry/counterattack ability is unlocked through the Keen Senses skill (in the green section of the skill tree). Only consecutive parries count for this challenge, which means if you get hit in between attempts even once, you’ll have to start over. The easiest way to complete this challenge is to find a low-level bandit camp, whittle them down until there’s only one left, and then parry that enemy’s attack seven times without taking damage.

Tornado of Steel

Artifact Location

Found west of the Dewhaven Logging Camp, west of Delesyia.

How to Complete Tornado of Steel Challenge

• Challenge:
  • Hit enemies 6 times using a normal Turning Slash.
  • Hit enemies 6 times using a Fire-enhanced Turning Slash.
  • Hit enemies 6 times using an Ice-enhanced Turning Slash.
  • Hit enemies 6 times using a Lightning-enhanced Turning Slash.
  • Hit enemies 6 times using a Wind-enhanced Turning Slash.

First, unlock all four elemental imbuements by completing the following puzzles:

• Lightning Element: Spire of the Stars → Sanctorum of Insight → Secret Garden → Vault of Vengeance → Courtyard of Precision.
• Wind Element: Spire of Clockwork → Riddle Square Abyss Puzzle
• Frost Element: Spire of Ringing Truth → Ether Rest → Frostbitten Paradise → Path of Trials
• Flame Element: Spire of Ringing Truth → Ether Rest → Frostbitten Paradise → Path of Trials → Sanctorum of Darkness → Loop of Life

Once you have all four elements, get the Imbue Elements skill in Kliff’s skill tree (in the red section). Now, you’ll be able to imbue these elements into your special attacks like Turning Slash through the radial menu (F3 on PC, [Right] on controller).

To perform a normal Turning Slash, press and hold RMB + LMB (PC) or [R1] + [R2] (PS5). For elemental Turning Slashes, first imbue the element you want your attack to be, then perform the Turning Slash move.

Like a Butterfly, Like a Storm

Artifact Location

Found southeast of Delesyia, on the road that leads to Marni’s Laboratorium.

How to Complete Like a Butterfly, Like a Storm Challenge

• Challenge: Successfully land Diving Force Palm twice in a row without touching the ground.

Diving Force Palm can be unlocked by completing the Precipice of Truth Abyss Puzzle, which you can reach by solving the Spire of Insight. Additionally, you’ll need to max out Axiom Force to unlock the Aerial Swing ability, which is required to perform Diving Force Palm.

Once you have the Diving Force Palm and Aerial Swing unlocked, stand at the edge of a cliff, jump off the side, and use Aerial Swing to latch onto the cliff wall and start swinging. Let go in the middle of the swing’s arc, and Kliff will start spinning wildly. Use Diving Force Palm (Middle Mouse / [R3]) right at the edge of the cliff. There will be a minor knock-back effect that will push your character back into the air.

When this happens, start flying and float off the side of the cliff to get the opportunity to initiate another Aerial Swing. Now repeat the process once again, and you’ll have performed Diving Force Palm without landing once.

Like a Butterfly, Like a Storm Reward

Through the Current

Artifact Location

Found just north of the Great Gate of Udravah, directly east of the World’s Navel.

How to Complete Through the Current Challenge

• Challenge: Swim 100 meters at full speed without resting.

To complete this challenge, you need to upgrade your Stamina to Level 9 or above. Then, jump into any body of water, start swimming at full speed by pressing and holding the sprint key. Stamina recovery food items, like Wine, cannot be used during this challenge because your characters cannot eat while swimming.

The Tidebreaker Boots do not reduce the stamina requirement for completing this challenge (since the boost you get is directly proportional to how much stamina is used to activate their ability), but they do reduce the time needed to reach 100 meters.

On a Storm of Beasts

Artifact Location

Found just north of the Odeck Floodgate, in the northwestern corner of the map, north of the Silver Wolf Mountain.

How to Complete On a Storm of Beasts Challenge

• Challenge: Hang onto a bear for more than 10 seconds.

You can hang on the back of a bear (or any large creature) using the Back Hang ability, which you can unlock by upgrading the Grappling skill to level 4. Once you have this ability, find a Bear, jump when you’re near it and use Back Hang to latch onto its back. Once you’re attached, repeatedly use Force Palm to stunlock the bear until 10 seconds have passed, thereby completing the challenge.

• Bear Location: There is a guaranteed Bear spawn in southeast Hernand, in the open field right next to the Abyss Nexus that’s near the Sanctum of Penitence.
