Crimson Desert: All Hunting Challenges

In Crimson Desert, there are 11 Hunting Challenges for players to complete, all of which revolve around finding, catching, or hunting the various types of wildlife found in the game.

This guide covers the locations of all Sealed Abyss Artifacts for every Hunting Challenge, how players can complete those challenges, as well as what rewards they’ll receive when they do complete them.

All Hunting Challenges in Crimson Desert

Father of the Earth

Artifact Location

Found by the side of the road between the Hook Rapids and the Three Saints’ Falls, northeast of Hernand, directly north of the Abyss Nexus that’s to the east of the Three Saints’ Fall.

How to Complete Father of the Earth Challenge

• Challenge: Carry five birds.

You can “carry” a bird by walking up to it and pressing the interact key (Square on PS5, or E on PC) to pick it up. The easy way to complete this challenge is to target flightless birds like chickens, partridges, and kiwis that cannot fly away. You don’t need to carry five different species of birds; just five different birds, even if they’re of the same species, will do.

There are tons of partridges roaming the woods of Hernand, near the city.

Wild Showdown

Artifact Location

Found by the road, just east of the “K” of Gorthak on the map, north of Delesyia.

How to Complete Wild Showdown Challenge

• Challenge: Defeat 3 wolves unarmed.

You just need to find a group of wolves and defeat them using your unarmed skills. You simply equip Ordinary Gloves in the secondary weapon slot and attack the target, and it will qualify as “unarmed.”

• Wolf Location: There is a wolf pack that’s roaming the area between the Hills of No Return and the Hook Rapids, northeast of Hernand.

Hunter’s Discipline

Artifact Location

Found at the junction, north of the “A” of Tashkalp, south of the Crimson Desert.

How to Complete Hunter’s Discipline Challenge

• Challenge: Defeat 3 hyenas without moving more than 20 meters.

Hyenas can mainly be found in the Crimson Desert region, in the northeastern corner of the map. They come in packs, so finding 3 or more should be relatively easy if you check all their usual hangouts. Damiane’s Smiting Bolt ability is particularly suited for this challenge since you don’t need to move at all when using it.

• Hyena Location: A large pack of hyenas roams the area near the river northeast of the Tashkalp city, directly south of Urdavah. This location is only a hundred meters northwest of where you find the artifact.

Mystical Ecosystem

Artifact Location

Found by the side of the road, directly south of Pailune City, near the Pailune Floodgate.

How to Complete Mystical Ecosystem Challenge

• Challenge: Capture 3 Choppies.

Choppies are rabbit-like creatures that you can find in the Abyss (sky islands). The most convenient spot to find Choppies is the Axiom Archive abyss zone (found directly above Hernand City), the very first sky island you visit during the tutorial section. Here, find and catch 3 different choppies to complete the challenge.

A Will Harder than Rock

Artifact Location

Found in the Kingshield Mountains, northwest of Demeniss, just east of Burnhand Quarry.

How to Complete A Will Harder than Rock Challenge

• Challenge: Defeat 10 stoneback crabs.

Stoneback crabs can typically be found in locations where you find Bismuth Ore or Abyss-related technology. They burrow underground and appear like regular rocks, making them easy to miss if you’re not on the lookout for them.

• Stoneback Crab Location: An early-game location where you can find them in large numbers is at the Root’s End Ruins, north of Hernand and south of Pailune, just to the south of the Sage’s Peak. At the very top of this mountain, there are many stoneback crabs disguised as regular rocks. You can wake these enemies up using a downward Force Palm (crouch and use Force Palm).

Small Predator

Artifact Location

Found at a junction on the road leading to Demeniss, directly west of the city.

How to Complete Small Predator Challenge

• Challenge: Catch and carry 5 animals from the weasel family.

Weasels and Raccoons count as being in the weasel family. The goal is to find and catch five different animals from this family; repeatedly dropping and catching the same one won’t do.

• Weasel family location: Raccoons can be found in clearings near Rocca Hill, northeast of Hernand City.

Small Predator Reward

• Blessing of the Beast II x1

Apex of the Food Chain

Artifact Location

Found by the side of the road, west of the Sovereign Wastes, southwest of Tashkalp and northeast of Demeniss.

How to Complete Apex of the Food Chain Challenge

• Challenge:
  • Take down 3 herbivorous animals.
  • Take down 3 predator animals.
  • Take down 3 omnivorous animals.

There are tons of different ways to complete this challenge. Here is one example of how you can do it:

• Goat (Herbivore): Go to the clearing southeast of the Howling Hill camp, just past your house in Thinker’s Meadow, and you’ll find a herd of goats grazing. Kill three goats to complete the herbivore goal.
• Wolf (Carnivore): Go to the clearing between the Hills of No Return and the Hook Rapids, northeast of Hernand and kill the pack of wolves roaming the area to complete the Carnivore goal.
• Grey Heron (Omnivore): Go to any river in the Hernand region and look for greyish-white swan-like birds drinking the water from the riverbank. Kill three of them to complete the Omnivore goal.

Song of the Moon-Swallowing Sword

Artifact Location

Found by the side of the road north of Drywind Valley, just south of the large ring of the Red River, northeast of Demeniss.

How to Complete Song of the Moon-Swallowing Sword Challenge

• Challenge: Cling to a wolf and stab it 6 times in a row.

To cling to a wolf, you need the Back Hang ability, which can be unlocked by upgrading Grappling to level 4. Once you have this, locate the wolf pack roaming the area between the Hills of No Return and the Wolf Rapids, and use Back Hang to latch onto a wolf’s back. Press the attack key repeatedly to stab the wolf six times.

If you’re killing the wolf before you reach six stabs, increase your game’s difficulty. This will increase the wolf’s health and reduce the damage you deal.

Song of the Moon-Swallowing Sword Reward

Pine Broom

Artifact Location

Found by the side of the road south of Willow River, north of the Steel Mountains, in the southwestern part of the map.

How to Complete Pine Broom Challenge

• Challenge: Take down a bear using only a broom.

You can purchase a Broom from any Provisioner’s Shop for 58 copper. Once you have it, find a bear (one is found right next to the Abyss Nexus northeast of Pororin Village, near the Sanctum of Penitence. Then, use the broom as your only weapon to defeat the bear. Make sure you don’t climb on the bear’s back at any point during this kill attempt or use any special moves like grappling attacks or kicks during this fight to fulfill the completion conditions.

If you’re having trouble, lower the game��s difficulty to make it so that the bear is easier to take down.

The End of Myth

Artifact Location

Found by the road that leads north through the Crimson Desert, near the Desert Ruins.

How to Complete The End of Myth Challenge

• Challenge:
  • Hunt and skin a Silver Fang.
  • Hunt and skin a White Bear.
  • Hunt and skin a white-scaled crocodile.
  • Hunt and skin a white bison.

These are all legendary animals you can find in the world.

The End of Myth Reward

When Animals Die

Artifact Location

Found near a fork in the road that extends southeast of Tashkalp, just west of the Gloomy Forest POI.

How to Complete When Animals Die Challenge

• Challenge:
  • Obtain thin hide through skinning.
  • Obtain thick hide through skinning.
  • Obtain sturdy hide through skinning.
  • Obtain short hair hide through skinning.
  • Obtain long hair hide through skinning.

Hides can be obtained by skinning certain animals.

• Thin Hide can be obtained by skinning small mammals like foxes, baby deer, reindeer calves, weasels, raccoons, rabbits, rats, chipmunks, and hedgehogs.
• Thick Hide can be obtained by skinning large mammals like rhinos, elephants, and bears.
• Sturdy Hide can be obtained by skinning large reptilian creatures like crocodiles.
• Short Hair Hide can be obtained by skinning large prey animals like deer, reindeer, sheep, goats, and others.
• Long Hair Hide can be obtained by skinning large predator animals like wolves and boars.

Hides bought from a vendor will not count for this challenge.
