Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could be the next entry in the military shooter franchise to get the Xbox Game Pass treatment. This is presuming that Xbox follows in the footsteps of Call of Duty: Vanguard, a game that received an official Xbox on PC version before eventually coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Released in November 2020, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the sixth entry in the Black Ops series. Unlike its two previous installments, however, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes players away from the futuristic frontlines and throws them back into a historically-inspired setting, this time the titular Cold War of the 1980s. While Black Ops Cold War has gone to receive a lot of love from fans for its memorable campaign mode and its enjoyable multiplayer, the game didn't receive the warmest of receptions from critics, with it receiving a Top Critic Average of 75 on OpenCritic.

Posted to the r/xbox subreddit and first reported on by Pure Xbox, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has seemingly just been given an official Xbox on PC version that can now be spotted on the Microsoft Store. Before this point, the only version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War available on the Microsoft Store was the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions of the 2020 shooter.

The same thing recently happened for Call of Duty: Vanguard. Back in April, Call of Duty: Vanguard suddenly received an official Xbox on PC version. Almost exactly two months later, Call of Duty: Vanguard came to Xbox Game Pass. Some fans now believe that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could be following in those same footsteps. If that's the case, then fans could end up seeing Black Ops Cold War on Xbox Game Pass sometime in September, though, of course, this is all purely speculation at this point.

There are currently seven Call of Duty games available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This list includes almost every Call of Duty entry that's released since 2017, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War being the only exceptions. On the opposite side, this list doesn't currently include any Call of Duty entries that came before 2017.

Despite owning Activision and all of its IP, key Call of Duty titles are still missing from Xbox Game Pass, including some of the series' most acclaimed entries. The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy isn't currently available on Xbox Game Pass, nor are the first four Call of Duty: Black Ops entries. With this year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — and presumably future installments — confirmed to be skipping an Xbox Game Pass day one launch, it'll be interesting to see what Xbox does with the franchise's extensive back catalog moving forward.
